It seems like Blizzard is really trying to come up with new flavors of characters, though they did bring back the barbarian without changing title or characteristics.
What characters do you think will make a return (I believe Blizzard said another character would return),
and what characters do you think will be brand new in the expansions?
Let's see how creative you guys can be in coming up with some new classes that could work.
Also, feel free to talk about new skills that would belong to the new characters, too!
Personally, I want to see some sort of blood mage (really powerful spell slinger that uses life instead of mana/arcane). I could see it happening, with the life orb divided up into two orbs, or something. It'd be my favorite!
The monk is just the paladin is less klinky armor... i would say it would be another pet class. if your going to reference LoL i would like to see a class like Vlad, where his own health pool is his resource and has crazy amounts of life steal from those abilities to counter act the loss of blood as it were. or a class like the WoW warlock with demon enslaving and DoTs and not call it a warlock and call it a Cultist or something.
If they were to add another class from Diablo 2 my guess would be the Paladin, whilst definitely not my first choice it seems people have been most vocal about getting this guy added back in.
I think the paladin will return, too, as himself or a new hybrid character.
The Demon Hunter seems to replace the Amazon and Assassin, the Witch Doctor replaces the Necromancer (and possibly the Druid), and the Wizard has replaced the Sorceress. The Monk has holy skills, but the game is still lacking a sword-and-shield character.
I don't know which will be the new class. but it will be get DPS from STRG ... and thats 100% sure we have 1 from STRG 2 from DEX and 2 from INT.. so its like 100% sure it will be STRG next hero

At first, I was going to say the Demon Hunter does that, but it really doesn't have the same feel at all. I always enjoyed playing a Shadow Priest on WoW, and its DoTs were just awesome. I could see a new character that rivals the Demon Hunter's evil nature make an appearance in the future, especially if they're considering another pet class (the WD seems to fail to fill that niche).
This thread is WAY off, by like, another 12 years (being optimistic)
BUTTTTTTTT.. If you really wan't to know (have an inside source)
The current planned classes for the D3 expansion (Diablo 3: Demon Punks from Mars) will be....
Space Pirate, Cyber Ninja,
and they actually decided to make a 3rd (returning hero)
....Warrior.
That's right. Just Warrior. From D1. He has no spells, either. Just attack.
If anyone asks, You guys didn't hear it from me.. Space Time Contenium cops are dicks, rather not go to jail on the sun.. got massive sunburns last time...

This sounds like 100% blizzard logic to me.
Sure it's true, but I'd hate knowing some awesome concept was shelved simply because they're famously stuck to this way of thinking.
All signs would say Paladin for sure. If they're doing it to balance the value of STR from items, they could also pump the value of shields up considerably in the same sweep. It has the benefit of being a pretty sensible idea from a lore standpoint as well. It would be easy to push his role as a hybrid by making his melee dps formidable.
Hoping they don't take the obvious route though, my fingers would be crossed for more of a caster type. The wizard fills his niche nicely with the elemental magic and discipline. I'd say more of an evil/dark type of caster. Warlock, necromancer, blood mage style. Maybe a more deliberate caster that takes a couple seconds to set up a few different spells, resulting in one huge display.
I agree that will be a melee class that uses STR. Only reason I could see Paladin returning is because of it's high popularity. I think a rogue/assassin type.
I can see a melee centered nature themed class. We obviously are short on melee compared to ranged...so it seems logical. Something like the druid (shapeshifting). Using the Werewolf and Werebear forms to give a different play style.
Maybe a melee focused necromancer type class (with summoning skills - Cabalist maybe?) who's resource is basically using the blood of neaby enemies to fuel his/her powers. Similar to a Barbarian's fury, but it doesn't deplete over time, and isn't built up specifically using generators (like Spirit) or out of combat (like Arcane Power or Hatred/Discipline). A class that gains it's resource through bloodshed, and holds onto it until you decide to use it.
I think you guys are going somewhere with the nature melee idea. The shapeshifting Druid was great, but they didn't completely pull it off in D2. I could definitely see Blizzard coming back to a shapeshifter in the future; none of the current classes have that.
I'm ambivalent about the Paladin, though. Hammerdins were the most popular powerhouses in D2, next to light sorcs and trapsins. Blizzard nerfed lightning spells on Wizards and rather destroyed the trap idea with Demon Hunters, and introduced a new holy character (the Monk). A paladin would definitely be welcome since there are still shields in the game, but we already have a golden, holy character. Perhaps there will be paladins that have lost their holy edges.

I completely agree here. This would fill the niche the game seems to be lacking imo. I would also like to point out that, as long as blizzard is good at separating build, we may see a character that uses more than strength. The druid for example could eitehr go caster or shapeshifter with INT and STR respectively.
As for the second class.... I have absolutely no clue haha.
Im still praying for a beastmaster like rexxar to be a new STR hero, not the faggy druid lookalike. Using aspects of Bears, Tigers, wolves and whatever to complement his fighting. None of this magic ranged stuff, but up in your face animal-like fighting with a small bit of summons. Youd have a close to nature type of hero, but alot more savage.
I really like the idea of beastmaster, I was trying to think of something like druid with shapeshifting and summoning that didn't have to much casting. Maybe not a savage melee because that kinda feels like barbarian territory, but really nature focused.
I wonder if in the first expansion whether they will put in two new classes or just one.
Get this guys... A dude.. that turns into demons/angels!!! It's like, rad man.. Cuz y'know? Nephalem are like both angel/demon hybrids y'dig? So like they have both properties, y'know? See what i'm SAIYAN?
something akin to an oak sage druid would be fun. Well druid in general ya. WD fills in the summoner niche, but neither monk, barbarian or monk take in the transforming character niche.
Well, I want some more melee classes. As for what they would be I am not sure. I would like a Hunter type class, as in it can train and use animals/beasts. Maybe another magic user, something that uses darker magic, similar to the Necromancer from D2.

What is this thing called "real life?" Is that some sort of expansion pack?
I think a dual form caster would be awesome. Each form using a different life globe but having a 3rd essence that uses both powers. Say there is a True form and a Shadow form.
This caster has high vitality and uses his life to power his skills. Changing forms changes the globe that he draws from. Skills from True Form heal Shadow form life and skills from Shadow form heal True form life. While the skills that use both forms heal them both. Knowing when and what to use will be a true test of skills for this player, as in the heat of battle he will have to not only micro his form, but the balance of skills he is going to use to defeat enemies.
This would be my favorite type of class to see...showing true skills in a player and what he knows about his character, because his life depends on it!
