Haha I just played WD... it totally IS vagina frogs.
Honestly though, I think the Diablo games do appeal to women. I can only vouch that my sister played Diablo II briefly (way back when), and actually very much enjoyed it... and she didn't play many other games... maybe the Sims but that was it.
I'll try with my gf but by experience im against teaching her everything, last time I did that she was doing nothing on her own and was always asking me what to do even 75% into the game.
and good lord SO MUCH THIS.
I was playing some Starcraft 2 and my partner came over and wanted to "have a go" I said look you probably want to try something a little less "complex" when it comes to learning, but she was insistent she could at least try it. Naturally i had to sit there every match and tell her what to do and exactly when to do it, it was agonizing.
Similar thing when she play WoW for a day every 10 minute is had to come over and manage her bags for her because she had no idea what items or stats she needed and just had me do it.
I can vouch for games like Little Big Planet (1 or 2) and generally simplistic games to get them started. I know you did try to fet her to take that route, but perhaps you could success by approaching her with such a game, instead of her approaching you about games.
Yeah well she likes plateformers like DK on the wii and mario, these are very simplistic.
When she did God of War 1 through 3 I had to tell her what to do every 10 minutes because she kept getting lost or couldn't solve puzzles... Well maybe she's just dumb xD Anyway she managed to finish them and liked it, she even liked wow but since she has not the time to play such games D3 might fit her better. I'll give it a try on release.
I for one want to convert my wife to play Diablo 3 with me. I wonder how interesting she'll find the game, considering she prefers FPS games. She DID play more Torchlight 1 then me though, LOL. But she never played Diablo 2, and she didn't like it much when she saw me playing.
Any tips to make the experience more interesting?
Well I'ver asked my partner if I bought the game would she play it and she said she would If I bought her a copy, so atleast i'll have someone to help with all the co-op achievements that need doing without having to rely on randoms.
the vaginal frogs post deserves a beta key imo. Too funny. I can see the corporate sponsorship & commercials...has spewing out vaginal frogs all day long leave you with that "unfresh" feeling...try Massengill.....
I am beyond stoked to hear more and more stories like this regarding gaming these days, because girls need to get in on the fun. The perfect combination of female characters who appear in video games but do NOT appeal to women and big brothers who horde their games and purposely exclude little sisters has left me living in a world where women can't see the fun waiting in it all.
Congrats to Blizzard for creating a game that is complex yet at the same time can introduce new gamers to an experience they've never had before.
In preparation for D3, I've been getting my girlfriend (super hot ftw) to play D2 with me. It has made me see D2 in a whole different way, and has actually helped me to understand Blizz's design decisions for the D3 skill system. I have found that if I want her to be able to kill things and enjoy the game, I have to tell her where to put all her points, what to pick up, what to throw away, etc...
Also, she plays in this weird squatting position from the bed because she's both Chinese and really flexible. I can't convince her to play with both hands either. Just brings in the left hand on occasion to tap at the keyboard.

You don't have to play d2 with both hands? its normally left-mouse and right-mouse spam.
I had to teach my wife to us both hands for the beta... it comes natural to gamers... but non gamers haven't played SC / SC2 / WC3 with the hotkeys
