i just wondered how blizz will keep up with the upcoming level cap increase as it does to inferno mode
alright, here's the deal, see
generally upon an expansion, diablo will add a new act, and in the D3's case, level cap increase.
take it from 60 to 70,
what happens to inferno difficulty?
what happens to those who are already 60, and halfway done in their progress on taking on inferno difficulty?
will they get kicked out and no longer able to enter inferno difficulty since the stats of the monsters are altered, and thus level 60 is finds inferno difficulty a suitable place to farm, instead going to the new acts first and grind their way to 70, then go back to inferno?
how about their progress in inferno during they're 60? is it saved? is it resetted? i have no idea what blizz is planning for this (if they are making any).
and one more thing. what if they do not buy the expansion? can they still access the inferno difficulty with the "level 60" difficulty of inferno?
in d2, hell difficulty and cow level is another thing. u just defeat baal, dead, then go back to cow level from original to LoD. cow level does not filter any level.
but in d3, there's a certain level cap limitation.
I'm fairly certain that even if you could stay in Inferno mode after an expansion you would quickly go back to hell mode. I imagine Inferno would be bumped to the new level cap and you would just end up leveling through the new content via Hell mode. I think the tricky part will be how you progress Hell. Will it balance out for 60 in Hell and be 70 by the end?
You got to consider that people beating Hell with a new toon will be higher then 60 since they would have had the extra content to level through on each difficulty.
I think this is an awesome question, but the problems you're talking about only exist if they decide to raise the level cap. Obviously, a lot of us think they'll probably do so, but we're thinking that based on the WoW model, not the D2 model. They COULD just leave the cap at 60 and increase the amount of experience needed get from one level to another; this would allow new characters to go through expansion zones while still leveling at the same pace as they would have before the expansion. It would also allow Inferno to stay just as it is. Again, I don't know if I personally believe they'll actually do it this way, but I think it's an overlooked solution as long as a level-cap increase is assumed.

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
Well, I hope they will not make it as WoW model. You reach max level, you farm instances, you get best equip. And then new expansion, new world and new items and you have to go again from the beginning.
From money income, it´s best way how to keep players in game, but I hope that with expansion we get new zones with new difficulties, new characters and.... I hope that Jay Wilson will have good idea about this leveling...
But I am sure that inferno will stay in game with datadisc....
One option could be that Inferno will always scale based on what your current level is. And since you need to beat Hell to access Inferno, there'll always be a certain lvl threshold that you need to be at.
Another option could be that the current Acts in Inferno don't go beyond lvl 70, but whatever new Acts are added in the expansion will be scaled harder in the expansion's Inferno mode.
For example, let's say that in the first expansion, the level cap is raised from 60 to 70 and a fifth Act is added. Inferno for Acts 1-4 will still be lvl 70 max, but Act 5 Inferno will be up to lvl 80.
That option is unlikely though, since I think Blizz wants to give you reason to play ANY part of the entire game in Inferno, not just the latest Act.
I think for an expansion they would just allow everyone to have a raised cap. So you would venture through hell mode-- all 4 acts plus the expansion act. Up to hell mode monsters would scale with you. In Inferno mode all monsters would be the max level +1. Another option could be to make it dependent on the host of the game. If the host doesn't have expansion then the inferno mode monsters would be level 61. If the host does have expansion then inferno mode is max level +1.

Blizzard used to care about releasing Diablo III, then they all took an arrow in the knee...
I think they will add an Act for Inferno with higher level monsters.
Based on the WoW expansion model, I am worried that the gear obtained through vanilla Inferno will get obsolete with the expansion due to the new level cap. For me it would negate the time and effort made farming Inferno gear (and what is the point of the RMAH in that case). Unless they make the Inferno gear kind of scaling with the expansion level cap to prevent it getting obsolete.
Personally, I think we should stay focused on the game as it is, seeing as thought it is close to half a year before the game we are discussing in it's current state is being released lol
All this is much like making plans for a grand child before you even have your first kids.
My guess is they will either increase the level cap to allow the use of more active/passive skills, or just allow us to use more skills. I think 6 active +3 passive skills is a rather shallow movepool for a game, even if you only used that many or fewer abilities in d2 (due to the limitations of the talent trees)
If they increase the level cap and add a new difficulty, as they're likely to do, my guess is either the new act will contain 60-70 elite monsters in inferno or all of inferno will be made level ~70 and we will be unable to farm it until we level up in hell (probably act 4+5), as some have already suggested. I'm fine with either model, though to be honest that while the "all inferno level 70" model might seem annoying at first, I'd rather it be like that so we don't just end up farming the last act over and over again, and for that reason it is also that much more likely.
I believe they will do something similar to the refurbished old raids and dungeons in wow. They will grant those who finished the lvl 60 inferno feats; achievements labeled labeled lvl 60 and make new achievements for the refurbished lvl 70 inferno.
The items acquired from the previous version will probably help the leveling progress and new improved versions of the gear will drop in new inferno.

This is a nice site, funny, creative, organised and serious in it's own way...
I think that inferno is only for max level. So, when an expansion comes out, say they move the level cap to 70. The inferno difficulty will unlock at 70 instead of 60. All the previous inferno gear will just become hell difficulty drops.
When they release an expansion pack, we will solemnly pass our D3 characters to our grandchildren, as we fill their ears with tales of how great the game was when we were their age.
I hope they dont go overboard with expansions. A game can survive on its own if its a great game. Trying to keep people playing simply by creating expansions doesnt seem that worth playing if you ask me. When i think of a great game i am constantly reminded about those amazing scenes, moments or twists during it's experience. As for Inferno i would think a patch release after they see how people are exploring their characters and make it challenging in a way that u need skill not gear to achieve success
Expansions are needed for the developers to make money and survive. If the game developers go bust, u wont be able to play right.
Diablo is all about gear than skill, an for inferno its even more obvious u need gear otherwise u wont be able to survive. Its similar to diablo 2 u need gear to get to the most difficult part of the game, did u even get to uber farming in diablo 2? Where u need to farm 3 keys, than organs, than final bosses to get the hellfire charm? If u have not that u havent even touch the most challenging part of diablo 2.
They might just have a reset as well. Who knows. Might start all over again from level 1 to go through it all again. Or simply just go normal at the new content.

u can't do this. not with the RMAH active. resetting is also not in part oif EULA i think, they do not have the right to do so. well, unless in beta, they have one.
and yes, precisely my point. increasing level = lv 60 good gears + legendaries = obsolete. it's like a totally new era. during Diablo 2, the game did have an expansion. but only for acts, kinds of equipments, rune additions, etc. old gear is still decent, despite of what is their expansion.
let's say they make the max level cap is 60 at classic, increasing by 10 per expansion, so it's almost 4 expansions, which means, the time u spent grinding at earlier level is almost wasted to none. and i remember bashiok mentioning something about "There's a gear that's only obtainable on inferno difficulty". it's for lv 60 people. expansion comes in, then what? the "level-60-inferno-only-gear" no longer drops?
look, i know Diablo is all about dungeon, loot crazed game, and diablo dev team even say so. but these level cap increase feature i think will probably the demise of this Diablo franchise. unless they do something about it.
scaling monster's level is easy, since monsters spawn, killed, drop loot, when they die, we dont keep it, etc. but the problem is what WE HAVE right now, what happens to em?
idk how to tweet this question to bashiok, it's too long, and too complex. maybe if someone provide me with a way on how to shorten the question, LOL. or should i just link him here? haha
