Hi guys,
I'm new to Diablo 3, just bought it for my NSwitch. And I'm afraid I can't choose class by myself. Can you help?
I'm mainly playing in different games as a summoner, like tanky summoner caster with summons as the main source of dmg or hybrid support class. I really like good armor with Shield. For example, my favorite classes in WoW are: Warlock, Shaman, and Paladin. For D2: Necromancer and Druid.
So I'm looking at classes in D3 and I'm torn between WD, Necro and Crusader.
WD looks like Warlock in WoW, but really fragile. Not a fan of glass-cannon characters so I'm not sure about this. But his summon-oriented playstyle is what I really like.
Necro looks more like Death Knight. Not much summoner, more like a warrior I suppose, with some skeletons. And as far as I know, can be played as support in the endgame.
Yeah, I know Crusader is not summoner, but his tanky-style and Paladin theme is what I really like in different games. But for the first time in the game, I think I should go with summoner class. I just like how they look in game
I will mostly play for Solo content, maybe some time with a random party and not sure what to pick up. So any help for newbie summoner? Or just for a newbie player. Maybe my understanding of classes is far from reality?
Start with a WD or Demon Hunter fora gearing speed build. In your case the best best is the Angry Chicken witch doctor build. From. There you can put together a set and push greater rifts or you can torment farm gear for a Necro and Wizard. You will not get a lot of class specific set items but you will have plenty of usable gear in the even you get bored with the WD. I hope this helps.
All the classes are quickly leveled up once you have a character up to level 70, so make sure to try them all out.
From my experience, witch doctor has slightly more ways to play with pets as there are dogs, gargantuans and the little fetishes - but they are a bit harder to control (all you can do is summon them again to have them spawn near you), while the necromancer has an ability to focus his pets on whichever target he likes.
Swiper1994's concern about being oneshot as necro and being able to survive on the witch doctor are a bit exaggerated. With correct gear choices you should be able to survive just fine with either class. I would not recommend the crusader however, as his pet build is quite outdated and not really on par with any of the "currently played" builds.
EDIT: Oh and try to do the challenge rift every week, it lets you see how certain builds play out that you wouldn't have tried otherwise. And personally, I'm a huge fan of multishot demonhunter - usually with a pet wolf!

WD: Pets deal high damage while you are able to survive at high level.
Necro: Pets deal highest damage of the game, but you die by 1shot.
Crusader: Pets deal very low damage compared to other builds.
Conclusion: I highly recommend you the WD Gargantuan setup.
WD is tanky as hell, especially Soul Walk will let you ignore bad stuff and more bad stuff.

None of the above play something that requires you to think for more then 2 seconds pick a monk or Demon Hunter.
Crusader is probably the easiest class to play as a new player. Similar to D2 Paladin
Demon Hunter - Shadow Impale build is very tanky and is very newb friendly as well.
WD, IMO is boring to play. The pet/summons build is very passive and not exciting.
You can play a Summons necro with the rathma set, but it is a bit squishy. There are way to make surviving more manageable.
