So everyone is excited about the coming of Diablo 3, but have you ever stopped and thought about what a Diablo movie would look like (and no I'm not thinking about Arnold in his sunglasses)? I can imagine a Kirk Douglas type heroine deep in the deserts fighting the pharoah undead and finally facing the wrath a Diablo played by the iconic Klaus Kinski. With the bad kinds of movies coming out Hollywood (The new Ghost Rider case in point), I don't see why not Diablo fans can't band together and make this happen.
What acts do you think are strongest for this kind of thing? Would an animated movie like Akira work better? All thoughts are welcome!
I don't see how that is a useless post. I mean one of the big things these days are "game movies". Diablo in my opinion wouldn't be a great movie without really taking away its core. To much gore and what not for the big screen. ... Well I dont know, with todays world it might be accepted. I just don't know how you would to it. Would you make the movie based of off say Diablo 1, and have it basically follow the same line through into the labyrnth into hell? Say have the towns people and then the three heros, but by the time you get all the way down and kill Diablo only the Warrior (who was persumed to be the actual hero to finish him) be the only one standing? Ending the movie say celebrating Diablos death in Tristram, sort of how the game ends. Of course the next movie starting off with him "losing" the war against Diablo in his mind and starting his trip to the east.
Would be awesome, If anything it would have to be one of the books. the game itself is so detailed in its story telling that its already an interactive movie. I would definitally like to see the Sin War as a movie cause that holds most of the lore and helps set up the game starting at diablo one. Just imagine the end credit teaser. The madness of Tristram and King leoric and the scean ends with Adien(sp?) walking up the the Cathereal, thus ending where Diablo 1 starts... could you see the people clamering to get their hands on a copy of D1 after that?
Hah, I wouldn't take the movie seriously if they actually made gear drop from enemies or even gold. Thats more of a youtube thing. Just keep the movie simple enough. Worry about the action and story line. Let the heros be heros and not worry about magic finding that great helm before going to labrynth level 10. lol
Most movies about video games are crappy and that's why I wouldn'tt like to see a movie. I could destroy the whole diablo feeling. If the movie is bad some people will reflect their opinion about the movie on the video game and that would destroy the positiv image of diablo 3.
It would be pretty interesting to see a Diablo movie, but i don't know if Blizzard would ever do it.
They are still in the process of creating the Warcraft movie, and it's been an aweful long time without hearing about any new developments about it.
I am sure that if the Warcraft movie is a success and Diablo III is a success (which i am sure it will be), than i would not be in the least surprised if they say they will create a Diablo movie.
The reason why i believe that the Warcraft movie directly entails to any hope of further movies or a Diablo movie, is that most movies that are based on a videogame don't usually do well and if Warcraft does well, than that will shine a new light, so to speak on the videogame based movies of the future.
It would be pretty awesome to see a Diablo movie, but all in all i think they should atleast release the Warcraft movie first.
I also think that producers, directors, etc... are all counting on the Warcraft movie to be successful before they agree to create any other movie based on a Blizzard game.
If the Warcraft movie is not successful than i highly doubt Blizzard will ever spend money on another movie again.
It would be really funny to see the gold dropping from the enemies. I haven't read the books, but I wonder if they provide an interesting take on the Diablo lore. I guess I always enjoyed the introduction manuals that came with the games, the ones that gave you a snippet of the story and I wonder if something like that could be built upon. I would agree though that Blizzard would probably be very wary of actually making it, but maybe a small partnership with an animation studio (I mean they did come out with the comics). Any thoughts on the books or comics and whether they might provide a good story for a movie or if they do the franchise justice?
Movie of Diablo 3 can be great but little bit hard to make in my opinion.
It is RPG game after all but with a great story so yeah its makeable and I think its gonna be great !
Noomi Rapace from Sherlock Holmes as the Sorceress :-D
No. Sorc was hot... Noomi = not.
Besides, if you are gonna reference her ... reference the masterpiece that is the girl with the dragon tattoo series (that is the swedish version... fuck the english lol).
@dnavarre
LoL, monsters spewing loot in the movie...
My opinion on this movie idea is that I would love to see a Diablo movie, but only if creative control was in the hands of Peter Jackson and had the graphic violence of a zombie flick.
Unfortunately that probably wouldn't be the case. So... with that said my real opinion is that with all the game-based movies that have just plain sucked over the years, I would be really reluctant to whore out our beloved Diablo Franchise to Hollywood. It drives me nuts when they make a movie about a game I loved and then butcher it into a cheesey piece of fluff for teenagers.
What a useless post. Gotta do better to get that beta key, lurker.
Come on man, thats not in keeping with the atmosphere of this forum, I'd say if any comment is going to reduce your chances of getting the beta its pointless negativity and mean spiritedness. Some people have more on their minds then competing with fellow members for the beta. I think Diablo could make an excellent film if it was done right. I'd say the twisted atmosphere of David Lynch's work mixed with the breakneck action and special effects of Spielberg would be a good fit.
I actually think if a Diablo movie were to be made it would be a success, provided that it's directed by somebody with lots of creativity/good writing. Personally, I would love to see Guillermo Del Toro be the director should one ever be made. With his creative direction a Diablo movie would go a long way, but that's just my opinion (: Oh, and for some reason, i can totally imagine Angelina Jolie being a demon hunter haha
