Since D3 will have (tentatively) console support, is it reasonable to suspect there will be ASDW / SDFE control support for moving your character around?
Click to move is ok, but personally I think being able to contol your character with mouse AND keyboard will make for a much better experience for the more adept players than "just the mouse".
slightly off topic from op question but.... anyone in the beta or happen to know if you can change the key binds of your spells. Im assuming that they are 1,2,3,4,5 and so on, are they changable?
Yes.
I wish the UI would correctly show the key you're using though.

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.
I think the console version will probably be a lot different control wise. I'd be surprised if its anything at all like a direct port. I'm guessing it will be a left analog to move, right analog to aim sort of setup and It will probably play attrociously.
But not as bad as WASD/arrow keys would be in a top down hack and slash. It would be funny if they put this in the game...
and then setup the AI to attack stationary characters at 70 degree angles.

"ZOMG I can't aim that direction!!!!"
Yes I agree it will probably be a lot different, I think they were fooling around with the possibility of making ranged attacks like fire bomb hit at a specific distance from the character. Either way I'll probably never buy the console version.

Which is why people are already saying that Diablo 3 feels better on the controller than on the keyboard.

Interesting. I can see the possibilities, but it seems like some of the skills would feel strange. Like snaks42 and Runner55 mention. If they set it up as a console game, it would probably be best to rework some skills, and set up boss encounters to take advantage of more precise movement.
With controller support patched straight into the PC version, what does everyone think would happen? Would the control schemes be equal? Or would a controller offer an advantage/disadvantge versus mouse controls? I've never thought about it before! Seems like mouse would offer targeting advantages and the controller would offer positioning and attack avoidance advantages. It would play so differently that you would probably need to spec your skills out specifically for it to avoid things that need targeting. Are there threads about this?
I would like to play with WASD also... just sayin *hides*
The only real reason is I find myself stopping to accidentally attack monsters with left mouse button a lot, OR running in when I mean to attack as ranged. Yeah yeah hold shift but holding shift has always felt awkward in any game for me.
I would like for there to be a "WASD " option for D3 as well. My only concern is that it would not work very well in certain areas where perhaps you'd need to point diagonally for whatever reason.
Mouse+left, right, 1-5 was fine for Diablo 2. But you're looking at a whole new generation of gamers now.
And simply "Having it there as an option" wouldn't hurt anyone.
It's 8 directions, sure. But you can still click any other angle with the mouse. And you click with the mouse to attack. (or walk, if you choose to do so)
Really though, the more options the better.
You can use ASDW quite easily (we've been doing it for a generation and a half using NES and SNES controllers, even modern day playstation controllers still have the 4 point controls). Which is why a hybrid control would be so much better than "just the mouse".
You can move around with ASDW for ease of access, less mouse clicks, less RSI.
Then when you get into combat, you use the mouse to aim and click any angle just like normal.
Of course, people will fear it because it'd be new and different, but you'd still be able to play "just with the mouse" if you so choose to.
You'd just allow different playstyles for those who wish it - and in all likelyhood, hybrid controls will outperform those focused solely on the mouse and 1-2-3-4-5 for skills.
It's how we play WoW, and that's a 360 degree game as well. Would a 2D topdown game really be "that much" different, that we suddenly need a mouse to be able to play in 360 degrees? Surely not.

This is why I'm pissed about blizzard giving randoms beta access....
And to the OP - I believe Bashiok already said no to this.

That will be inferno mode

Link before someone asks for one.

@slayerviper LOL!
