Nephalem Altars have been removed and players can now swap unlocked skills at any point during gameplay via the Skills list. This will impose a 30-second cooldown on the newly-activated skill, during which time the skill cannot be exchanged for another.
I am glad too. It seemed really cumbersome and I never understood the point of it beyond that they were over complicating an aspect that didn't need to be resolved that way. The cool-down seems ok to me.
I'm very curious as to what the major system changes to Skills will be. Very curious. I know those things don't speed up the release dates but it's kinda fun knowing that they haven't settled for second best and keep at it. I hope it doesn't mean the removal of skills but rather a reworking of how we utilize them. I wanna keep my plague of toads o.O
hehe
But I think they should at least keep 1 of those alters in town or some other type of mechanism, that allows you to change skills back and forth continuously without the 30s cool down and restriction.
This way you can easily cycle through your skills and runes very quickly in town to have a feel of what those skills look like
"Switch skill, put in rune, click on the ground... hmm wish the radius of effect was bigger... change change change"
I personally prefer the Altar.. It was a awesome implementation and was even inside dungeons. However.. blizzard must have seen It was such a big deal for some people to go back to town, when it takes all of 10 seconds to do and you can sell items and attend to other business. I can't stress how pissed i'll be if i hear complaining over having to wait 30 seconds.
Then min/maxers would be more compelled to swap abilities on the fly to get access to more abilities. Even at 30 seconds, there are some ability cool downs that are longer, encouraging swapping it out while you wait. I would honestly hope they up it to 45-60 seconds for the CD, and make it so long CD abilities don't recharge while swapped out.

I would agree except the fact that they want it to remain fast paced. With there being only a 30 second cooldown on the newly swapped skills, it allows you to continue killing with what skills you didn't swap and stay in the action. If they up to a minute, that will make a lot of waiting time and at low levels when you are learning how to play the class, that will make the first act or two go really slow.

I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.
needs longer cool down (equal to the skill with the longest cool down) or keep the altar... or make switching skills like Town portal and keep the cool down at 30 or 10 IDC
I hated the alter, and I really like this change =D It made me not try out as many skills as I would have liked, because that meant tossing up a TP. 30 sec CD is fine with me =P
Edit: I think there's *one wet blanket at this party, but I'm extremely surprised and relieved that everyone is on board with this =D
I think they have it fine, as long as, like stated earlier, they have a system such as "Abilities do not cool down when they're swapped out, or during the 30 second swap cd) and everything will be fine.

Thoughts?
I personally love it.
edit: well almost... darn that CD on spell casting
I couldn't put it better myself.
