Can someone tell me how exactly the Challenge Rift works on season start?
Can you somehow complete it just before a season releases, or are people (that talk about blood shards on level 1) going to take the time to do the Challenge Rift after the season begins? Because in that case I'll prefer to just jump straight to leveling.

You create or rebirth your seasonal character first. Right after, you do the Challenge Rift. Then you start leveling.
After season starts do the challenge rift straight away. Or in your case just start levelling. Just remember that people that did the challenge rift and gotten legendaries will be very much ahead of you in levelling time.
Wouldn't legendaries rolled at level 1 get outscaled pretty fast though? At some point, massive gains in toughness/sheetdamage should outdo most legendary effects, no? And that's assuming you even get legendaries at all, let alone actually useful legendaries.
I can't see this being worth it, assuming 4man leveling at tryhard pace.
Edit: or well, I guess you can pre-learn the Challenge Rift since the reset is on Monday, and you kind of want to do it anyway for Bounty mats, and Blood Shards are super available anyway... Starting to make sense.
With the shards and mats from the CRift you can gamble Bracers of the First man with level 1. Those give you up to +500% damage on Hammer of the Ancients, which is insane. You couldn't wear those bracers until level 16, BUT you can get cube right away and extract that legendary power. With this you'll have a 500% multiplier the whole time while leveling as soon as the HotA-skill is unlocked (at level 2!) and don't have to wear those level 16 bracers all the way up to level 70.
Also, with the DBs now in the CRift loot, you can level your blacksmith to 12 and start crafting level 70 weapons right away. Get lucky and get -30 level req on it and you can go to T4-T6 as soon as you hit level 40.
I did a testrun of this on the PTR, and it really was a fun experience. It'll make season starts way more enjoyable for me.
For the few Challenge rifts I have completed they have always been solo attempts -- I have never been in a group. And my standard operating procedure for my little clan at the outset of a season is to always do bounties and rifts. I suppose the 4 of us could all do one Challenge rift before doing anything else. That would be easier, yes?
You get 4.6 million gold and mats. so you can level up the 3 vendors right out of the gate (which you would have to do for the journey anyway), craft items every few levels and the stuff written above.
And completing the CRift in a group is even easier since you don't have to complete it solo. and should never take more than 10 mins. the benefits gained vastly outweigh the 10 mins "wasted".
I've never done challenge rifts before - is there any downside to starting a CR on non-season just to see what the build/layout/whatever is, and then just leave the rift without completing it?

I think as long as you don't finish it in time and thus earn the cache, you're good.
Also, any other ideas what to gamble for as a DH? Some quivers perhaps?
And another thing - is doing CR still reasonable when leveling via the traps in HoA?

he posted a level 1 gambling sheet.
don't think you can gamble anything else for DH at low level. But you can always check out this kadala thingy, dunno how exact it is though. just tested the hellcast waistguard, works fine on level 1 DH.
But, since there's still a week left before season 12, you can just test those things. get some shards, make a new char and gamble away
Of course, you won't be level 1 anymore once a new toon does a challenge rift at the beginning of the season and cashes in to get the Blood Shards to gamble. But, I am assuming you'd still be pretty low (under level 10?).

Yeah, that pocked guide is the one I mentioned, but I'm still not sure where he got his info about these items. The Kadala thingy also says Hellcats are from lvl 15 :-D But I guess it's tested.
Yes, it's been tested and as I mentioned, you can easily test this for yourself. And if you gamble hellcats, you won't be able to use it until you're level 15, that's why Kadala shows this. But gambling at level 1 keeps the loot pool as small as possible.

Doing the CRift does nothing with your char. You play a completely different char. So you'll still be level 1 when you go ingame and collect your cache. Might want to check this out or just play the current CRift for this week to get a feel for it, if your haven't done any yet.

Oh, good lord. Of course. Lol. *stands in the corner*
Great idea. Playing this game Solo is the only way to play honestly. Back in Vanilla I had a HC DH on Inferno, made it to Act 3, which was pretty impossible at the time, and it was very rewarding.
So if you want to have a refreshing experience- Make it highest difficulty, and a level 1 character on HC.. go.
Its not as challenging as you think, not like d2, but still more enjoyable. You unlock skills and find/ use weapons you normally wouldn't.
If you are bored of the end game content, everyone looks the same and has the same builds.. its boring as fuck, try it out. Remember In D2, you cherished what you found and skills as you leveled? I still go for that feeling when I play D3.
Playing in groups is boring imo

Take the Barb for example.

Holy crap, I had no idea a Challenge rift nets you that much gold. Any idea how many Deaths Breath you get?
Yes, 10 it is.
I'll use 5 to cube some bracers for my barb and 1 for leveling up the blacksmith to craft a level 70 weapon with reduced level requirements

Still torn between Uliana Monk and UE Multishot DH.
