*Update* This method is less effective in Patch 10, due to companion scrolls no longer dropping, and gold find on items being nerfed.
Using full Gold Find gear (+234%), I clear the beginning area of Royal Crypts which contains over a hundred destructible objects, as well as loose tiles, corpses, and chests. Each run takes about 1.5 minutes, and yields over 1000 gold, as well as a few white and blue items. I use this gold to buy blue items from the merchant (Buckler of Thorns is the cheapest at ~250g) to turn into scrap material. This is the best method of farming crafting materials I have found.
At max level your gold find will probably be able to climb much higher than 350% if people are hitting 230% at level 13 in beta. For reference it is possible to get in excess of 3500% gf in D2x.
While this may work (buying blues and cauldroning them) at low levels, it's highly unlikely you will be able to get the higher level and more useful (+rare) materials buying vendor sold items in Inferno.
Keep in mind that the price of everything on the AH is in relation to the value of gold. Most things cost an amount proportional to the time it takes to gather it yourself vs the fastest/easiest way to find money for that duration. If it takes an hour on average to farm one of a particular material and an hour to farm 10,000 gold, that item will eventually cost around 10,000 gold on the AH. If this is incorrect at any time, the market will stabilize once someone notices and takes advantage of it.
One last point: because of how the designers have said they're making Inferno (i.e. very difficult and strategically challenging) it's likely the fastest way to farm money will be running Hell with level 60 Inferno gear. I'm sure that's where the bots will be, the least challenging place with the highest farm potential.
Seems like the easiest way to farm will be to make a barbarian with threatening shout. Put an obsidian rune in there (16% to drop extra treasure/gold) and kite mobs around forever. Unless there is a cap on how much extra stuff drops, then it seems like the way to go.
neat idea! hopefully on release this will still be a reasonable way to farm
im hoping it is too. id like to change it up for once, so sick of "STACK MF MF MF MF". honestly the only reason gold find wasnt viable in D2 was because gold was useless. now that gold is 100x more useful in D3 (GAH, artisans, buying vender crap to scrap) gold farming can be legit because its GUARANTEED gold drops vs. relying on MF and hope something good drops.

easiest way to farm will be with a ranged class. until you can super gear a barb and use the obsidian threatening shout/golden hammer of ancients it will definitely be better to start as a ranged class for the fastest farming in the beginning because ranged faster killing speed will out way the benefits of the small percentage from the barb skills.

The interesting part will be whether using gold find or magic find will be ideal for farming and playing the AH... both have their advantages, it's just a matter of which Blizzard didn't balance as well and for how long we can exploit it.
I have been using this method a while. It is indeed the best, but it makes me sad and bored. I doubt the problem will be there when the game is released though. Playing characters all the way through to Leoric may be slower but I enjoy it more.
I posted a big long rant about gold but I'm deleting it... You people... Gold... Dumb... Ahhhh...
aww we wanted to see it
It was basically (going on memory here) about how gold should be treated as worthless by us as it was in Diablo 2... and that we should trade with items with eachother and refuse to give in to Blizzard or something.

Lol how would that be giving in to Blizzard? They are just making it so something slightly common like gold can be used as an actual currency. Recall that SOJ's and the like were currency back in D2, only because of botting, and only because there was no other form.
Just because gold will be the standard doesn't devalue items. You're still going to be able to trade items for other items, gold just gives a different currency that everyone has access too.

I really think the Diablo II trading system was an absolute travesty and would never want to go back to that. I'm happy to have an AH.
Nothing frustrated me more in Diablo II than sitting in the trade channels and having every response to trade and sale inquiries being 'offer... offer... offer... u offer...'

Agree with you 100% on that! I just don`t want D3 to become WoW... Gold should be used for making things from your smiths, not for trading!
As for the video, cool stuff.. I've spent my fair amount of time there as well while doing my goldfind "theorycraft" video. Not the funniest area to grind in, but yes it's very effective in the beta atm :). Nice destruction streak as well!

Hahahahaa even though we disagree a lot you make this forum fun to post on.
lol thanks :D.
as for gold i know it wont be much use because artisans only cost like 110k to get to max and then thats permanant on your account between all chars, and repairs wont be that bad so gold isnt very useful end-game except to buy from the gold auction house, but there really is no motivation to get gold other then to use it as a currency on the gold auction house so its just a circle lol.

From what I've read Inferno level repairs are going to be quite costly... however if you never die that's irrelevant.
How is there no motivation to get gold if you want a piece of gear and see exactly how much it costs on the AH? If you want specific gear then gf is multitudes more effective than mf.

Did u read over the part where I said "except on the gold auction house". There is no real tangible use for gold after lacing artisans which is cheap so the only motivation is to use it on the auction house, but what is that persons motivation to even put it on the gold auction house in the first place? To get gold to buy gear he wants, like I said it's a big circle like I said

I also found a fun way to do these runs is to get the highest 'Destruction' streak you can. Here are my results:

The song is posted right below the video on the youtube page, lol. It's a cover of Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters' by Apocalyptica.
Also, I'm still waiting for someone to beat my Destruction streak!!
