So we have seen the boss pictures from people data mining anyone else notice there was no Baal or Mephisto!? Where are they... Meph was always my favorite I hope they make a return at some point!
I think they are all too distinct of characters to be merged into one being - would kill off 2 great characters basically - would be like if the Lich King, Deathwing and Illidian all merged into one = gay

Except while all of those characters had/have something in common at one point or another with what's his face like sargeras or something (I forget), they weren't originally all a single super being like the diablo evils are.

True I understand that. I just believe that baal, diablo and meph are too iconic seperately to be merged into(back into) one.

unless there is some form of epic story to go along with it.
I really think there are going to be some AMAZING story / twists in this game.
True haha I typed Anu at first and had to correct myself... guess I needed to correct a lil further - but, ya i dunno why it would just upset me if the 3 merged into one and we only had one uber bad guy instead of 3

well, one thing I like about the book of cain, is it reminds people the "lessor" title means crap. In fact one or two of the lessors are FAR more dangerous to us than any of the primes (if not for the only reason we dont know a lot about them).
Thing is, we 'killed' diablo 2 times.. I wouldnt mind something like that to happen. (though... as you pointed out Like I didnt think.. it really wouldnt be "diablo" then..which was confirmed as the boss)
Did we kill Diablo or just the vessel for his soul? Does one become Diablo or does Diablo just possess this body so we have never killed him just his tools to walk amongst men on there plane
I know what you mean... I need to stop thinking about this though and get back to my studying >.< such a boring chapter... but have a final first thing monday
Maybe it's just me but nobody is more iconic in diablo 3 than diablo (a third time). But if you think about just fighting the same battle again... that itself sounds very dry. I wouldn't be surprised if something *like* a merger is to take place for launch or an expansion. In d2 gameplay itself mephisto and baal didn't really seem more iconic than duriel or dare I say it bartok (bartuc?) in terms of difficulty lol, well if it wasn't for the fact that baal was the last boss. Of course I'm joking but you catch my drift, most people who pick up d3 won't give a rats ass about mephisto or baal.

I can honestly say I didnt do countless runs of Duriel for MF. I did for Bartuc however though but only to get to Meph. So gameplay wise I saw way more Meph and Baal(play now thats all people do is baal runs!) I don't see them as Iconic because they were hard I see them as Iconic cause they are the "Prime Evils" Lore wise they are way bigger than Duriel/Bartuc.

I've been wondering this too. I never really took the time to read the monologue playing diablo 2/lod, and haven't purchased much lore either. But didn't we go to hell and kill him? When over the past year or so we've been told that hell is where the evils reincarnate and that they cannot be killed? So the person who wrote the new story probably had to keep that in mind and somehow make encountering diablo 2 significant in a way.
I remember someone mentioned the possibility that diablo faked his death in order to crush the soulstones, which would mean he's the only prime evil that could supposedly still have a link to sanctuary through leah.
Lore wise they are way bigger than Duriel/Bartuc.
I didn't realize that (about Duriel anyhow, bartuc was just an assassin). I wasn't much of a magic find player, I wasted my time through steady aquisition of trading once I got a few good items, and cleared the cow level like an idiot to MF, joining 7 player games which did XP runs in a5 and whatnot.
Visually duriel was seemingly the largest boss in the game lol.
Duriel is just a lesser evil - twin sister of andarial other than that theres not much too him
Bartuc although the wiki doesnt say much about him - is brother of horazon(boss in arcane sanctuary) according to the wiki and from the book legacy of blood hes basically the main focus lore wise and sounds like a bad ass - spreads the blood of his victims on his armor :-D thats all I remember about him. -- been a while since I read legacy of blood
But other than these 2 being hard to kill in D2 there isnt too much to them - Duriel was hard because of the small room and he hit like a truck and bartuc was hard cause there was soooo many damn magic casters around him(more likely the group was hard not him specifically)
You hit the nail on the head. You walk into a room and maybe lag while duriel's already hitting you, and it was difficult (compared to the rest of the game) to avoid bartuc's mob.
I wonder what exactly the soulstone is. Why is Azmodan bothering talking to leah if he knows she's important (instead of just getting the job done quickly and doing her in), and who does adria betray, diablo or leah (and us). I forgot, why can't the prime evils be on sanctuary (without a stone) again? Or is that not the case. Weren't the stones just originally a method the horadrim used to try and trap the evils? Or is it that they can't come now that the world stone got crushed, pulling up a blank here.
Could it be the case that somehow one or a few of the evils are trapped inside the stone? And why is Tyrael being imprisoned. Is it because he shattered the worldstone/failed to forsee diablo's plan, or was he subdued.

well I guess it would depend on how and when. Plus the lessors would still be needed for that to happen =P
But yeah I get what you mean.

I really hope the story is as epic as im hyping myself for it to be =P I really want some good twists.
