Re: Will we know when they stop beta inviting 01/06/2012 09:52:16 AM PST
We probably won't end beta until shortly before release, and traditionally we've tried to announce release dates about two months before release. I couldn't speculate how invites might ramp up or down when the beta finally comes to a close, it definitely is not coming to a close yet though.

Considering this I guess we're looking at an early April/May release. It's gonna be a slow couple months fellas.
For one reason or another (probably reading it somewhere random) I have always been under the impression of a Q1 release date.. I thought i heard this somewhere official way back when they announced the delay. Delaying it 4 months or more from their original estimate is pretty extreme IMO. It looks like we/ll know about 2 months before launch which places a high probability between Jan 20 and Jan 31 for a spring release. I never thought even this day would come :^?

Just because they try to aim for that doesn't mean it will happen. There have been many different timeframes throughout Blizzard's software release history. They also aim for a worldwide release but history tells us that doesn't always happen either.
I seriously have no idea how they are working. 4 months ago they already said they are "polishing" the game, and now he said they are not in the polishing state.
He didn't say anything of the sort. He said some parts of the game were at that point (or perhaps even past) and others aren't. Given the changes they are still making, I'm not surprised.
Im pretty sure with bashioks latest comment, he just said its coming out month 4 or month 5, saying Q1 and then saying it was an honest mistake "but it shouldn't change anything" basically implies its going to be early, ergo months 1-5 as its the first half year.
I'm still on track for my expected 2013 release, just wait for the delayed announcement of 2012 was too soon.
your still trying too hard

Well... I really really wanted to believe it when they said (all year long) that they were still shooting for 2011. I thought I'd have the game on my computer by now to be honest and yet here we are... feeding on speculation and the barest hints of rumors. It's pathetic really but not on our end, theirs. With limitless resources and the best programmers in the world, a company like Blizzard should be able to set a date and get it out by then.
Let's face it: not everything is going to be perfect on release day (or probably ever, for that matter) no matter how long they delay it. The beta has felt finished to me from the first moment I played it, and I rather doubt it's the current version of the game.
I think we all agree on one thing: we just want the game.
I am given hope, just a little bit, by this Bashiok quote. Then again, I allow myself to be fooled by Blizzard constantly. I also take a little hope from this possibly fake Best Buy sign. Honestly, who knows?
I want the game, that's all I know. I've waited almost half my life for it. Sigh... Back to swtor for now...
Maybe they're reworking all the items/stats with the change that made basically all skill damage weapon based,
maybe the items weren't complete to begin with, or the droprates were wonky.
Maybe they're working on the boss fights, say the enviornmental/graphical concepts or the different phases if there are any.
Maybe they're waiting on the thumbs up from the part of the company that handles the financial/agreement crud.
Maybe they had spent 3 months making an interface solution to their new(old) runestone ideas, and now that it wiped we're looking at testing both a new system and working with new tooltips... Kinda like they led us on to believe.
Maybe the game's being held back for financial reasons (of freaking course it is, after all we're talking about a business and business is about making money), like to not compete with other activision blizzard titles and to crush the competition from others/hurt their sales.
Maybe the followers need more tweaking.
Maybe they feel the skills themselves need more tweaking or the monsters in inferno.
Maybe they're holding the PC game back until they get so much of the console version done.
Maybe they're working on the new and improved b.net/features.
Maybe they would prefer having a global launch if possible.
Maybe some of the world was repitive and stale and they want to spice it up (doubtful ;] )
These and so many other things, I doubt it's any one thing, but if it had to be just one thing, it'd be that in the end blizzard has a business and the aim of a business is to make money. You can and should be enthusiastic as a dev to make the game kick as much ass as possible (especially due to RMAH income, ratings for reviews and credibility of company and get more sales from having more positive reviews and continue charging full price longer), but I'm guessing the main concerns are how d3 launch will influence other blizzard and non activision blizzard titles. Everything probably chips in and adds up to a final conclusion though.
Either way.... I'm trying to not read too much into any of the vague hype/hints/misinformation because the only way to know for sure is when blizzard gives us an actual day, an actual date. Sometime late 2011, sometime early 2012 are very loose statements, especially from blizzard. I say until there is an actual date, the soonest you should assume d3 could even possibly launch is in 3 months, with the reality that this is blizzard we're talking about and who really effing knows.
