Now that the only challenge is in the Greater Rifts, what if we had an endgame campaign mode, where we could play the campaign from the beginning with our endgame characters? The rewards would be granted after each act, some of them once and some as many time as wanted. The Act V reward is granted according to a gr based difficulty level.
Rewards can be adjusted, of course. Now there would be a way to get stash tab in non seasonal too.
Note that unlike in gr, now you can deal with the gr70 difficulty level with your gr67 character as there is no timer. Death's breaths would drop along the way and player could change between game modes when desired. Wild idea: double the bounty materials gained if died only 1, 2 or 3 times during the campaign.
Once you've defeated Malthael in the normal campaign or in the adventure mode, the endgame campaign mode becomes available at your campaign mode slot.
EDIT: New ACT 2 Reward:
Urshi's Gift :: Player may update one legendary gem instantly to the same level he/she is playing the campaign through.
ACT 1 reward is granted every time the campaign is played through but player can wear only one item at a time that's imbued with a Gift. The item becomes purple colored Unique Legendary when Cydaea's Gift is used to it.
I like this. My favorite part is getting an option to farm mats in story mode in addition bounties. I feel like the adventure mode in this game has gotten pretty great, and something along with the story to give it value again would be really fantastic. I'm sure it would be expensive for them to make this change and I by no means expect it, but if it did happen I would be a happy guy.
Some Excellent analysis! Even so good, it makes me a little depressed as I remember that only QoL suggestions get through if any.
First I got to say that I never thought player would choose an act. While it would be also an interesting way to deal with this, it would need rewards equally interesting and farmable (as Act V and Act III rewards). However, this was always meant to be played as a whole campaign.
1. I agree that Cydaea's Gift would be a badass item. And I agree that RNG could be painful here. Maybe always allow new Gift but make the imbued item a purple colored unique item, of which player can wear only one at a time. Meaning that character isn't ruined if RNG hates him/her.
2. I've started to think about having Urshi's Gift :: Player may update one legendary gem instantly to the same level he/she is playing the campaign through. (If player plays GR80 campaign, he/she will be granted with level 80 cabable Gift) It doesn't take as much time to level one Gem to 80 than to clear two acts in GR80 level.
3. It could be from another pool. Maybe something like GR90 reward. There should be some another reward also to make Act IV interesting even if the Stash tab is acquired already. Maybe one granted Primal item? RNG problem but farmable.
So basically take the entire problem they tried to do away with in bounties (feel bad if you don't do it all at once) and throw it back into the game. Excellent.
I clearly haven't been clear enough as I've always thought that player can't just simply farm Acts 1-3 or to do only Act 3. Player could restart the campaign but isn't granted with new act 1 reward before he have cleared the Act 5 thus finishing the campaign. So basically we have been thinking the same from the beginning.
Sure, the another route is to let player to play one act here and another there but it definitely shouldn't lead into a situation where player always farms the same Act. So it's harder to design if we went like adventure modish way which either of us wanted anyway.
Yes, the campaign would be playable with greater rift level scaling and resetting the quests. We can forget the rewards but now there's absolutely no reason to visit campaign with an endgame character and that's a problem for me.

The Endgame Campaign Mode could be handled as the current game modes are handled. You could start it, have a month break from it doing adventure mode rifts and continue it when you feel like to. I understand that campaign is not for all but surely it spawns some interest as Diablo 3 forums have given +45 votes, r/diablo +100 votes and r/diablo3 +60 votes for this.
The mode would never get played. Seriously. Unless the payout is massive disproportionate compared to Adventure mode all you're really doing is throwing ins a "bonus" to play a mode that is fundamentally worse for progression than running whatever farming you should be doing.
So you end up with campaign in the same place it is now. Ignored. You're talking about 100 votes on r/diablo. What fraction of the active playerbase is that? What fraction of the r/diablo userbase is that. There's 160k subscribers to that reddit. Is it worth the dev time to put effort into 1% of the playerbase, is the end result even going to be compelling,
At the end of the day if you want to play Campaign as it stands you can. Your suggestion boils down to "You have to do this stuff to have the best character, and it takes massive amounts of time, and you have to everything in order, and some of these you only get once and those bonuses are earlier rather than later".
Of course then you'll have the groups who maximize speed running in order to cheese things. You've locked legends to a specific mode and behind a 1hr (maybe?) time gate for single players while groups will be running through in 30 minutes or less. It's all the same kinds of issues blizz has been actively removing form the game.
With reddit votes I was referring that it's pretty good compared to what other suggestion topics get there. The following survey shows there's interest in the campaign: http://www.strawpoll.me/13347478/r
Not everyone votes or lurks the forums so it's about relative success. In both reddit forums, it is 86% that like the idea. You must also dig pretty deep to find a topic with +45 at official forums which isn't a rant: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/d3/topic/20747235014
But sure, it wouldn't be for everyone. So aren't timed rifts or easy bounties. That's why some players prefer the campaign to have a revival.
Also, I've removed mode soecific legendaries from the suggestion. Act 2 reward is now replaced with gift that instantly levels a leg gem to a current level you are playing at. Thus it would leave the player option to play the adventure mode. Cydaea's gift could be lootable as well.
What's currently problematic in D3 is that we can't raise T13 without making tons of builds useless. At the same time many players are bored to death playing tutorially easy bounties or rifts where even bosses are one shot.
Greater Rifts saved the game but they grant excitement only through a timer which eventually makes us to yearn challenging gameplay without forever running against time. I find it most exciting when the enemy possess me a real challenge, instead of just thinking whether I kill him quick enough.
Yes, we can play campaign with lvl 0 characters in T10 but we would like to improve our endgame characters as well. Sure it doesn't have to be endgame campaign mode if there's something better suggested.

What do you think?
I think that would be awesome.

We just disagree. That's fine
