Since Starcraft 2 was chopped up into a release with 2 additional expansions, how do you guys think Blizzard will handle Diablo 3? Let's refrain from discussing the plot implications too deeply or talking about any spoilers that are out there. I just want to hear what everybody's guesses are.
For the hell of it, we can also talk about the possibility of Diablo 4 as a sequel. Sure, it might be too early to predict what will happen, but I think it's worth a second poll question and some discussion.

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
There was a leaked document about a year ago from Blizzard's China office that listed two expansions over the next 3 years or so. Two expansions seems appropriate for Diablo 3 - I think three would be a little overboard as this seems more suitable for MMOs. I'm sure we'll see Diablo 4 one day. Probably in 2022 or something.
according to other forum goers, there will be no "diablo 4" as we know of it today. We will obviously get more in the diablo world, but I guess this one finishes this arc up finally.
Well, I'm not expecting a new Diablo game for a good while after the expansions (which, in my opinion, should be spaced apart by a year of release). The Diablo world is somewhat big looking at the map included in the Diablo 2 Manual. I wouldn't mind a MMO in the style of Diablo (isometric view) but with WoW-type skill purchases allowing us to fully explore the world in the aftermath of Diablo 3 (or during or whatever--Demons, demons, everywhere!) but instead of focusing on the demons and angels, centering more on the people and civilizations of the world.
This would be a fun game with tons of content to explore while delving into the as-of-yet unshown lands will increase the world's lore for future entries.
Not much guessing required for the next year or two, the developer team has already mentioned months, if not already a year ago that an expansion pack has been in a concept phase for a while, with intended addition of two new classes for example. Nothing is ever set in stone, but it certainly makes sense to use the current engine D3 uses for an expac or two before its outdated.
It's hard for me to personally buy into them saying another expansion is in the concept stage. They alluded to having Heart of the Swarm being in a concept stage before SC2's release. After it was released, it was kinda obvious that they didn't put any work into it and blue responses confirmed that. We all kind of knew deep down inside that it would take them at least 18 months and unfortunately maybe even 2 years... or more.
I honestly think Diablo's future will be most affected by the response Blizzard gets out of them releasing details about their secret mmo. They will probably shed light on it by next Blizzcon. My money's on one LoD type expansion and D3 being the end of the franchise.

Well I'm not sure about Diablo 4, but I think there will definitely be one, maybe two expansions in the next three years. I think the Destruction of the Worldstone throws the whole eternal conflict and the role of humans into turbulence. I imagine there will be wars among humans who ally with demons/heaven and who are neutral. There's just an endless amount of material I can thing of, plus many locations they haven't used yet in the games.

Diablo fans deserve a downloadable version of the Blizzcon D3 demo.

You'll have to ask the for the source =P
I can't provide the source but I'm positive it was said somewhere that diablo3 will be the last of the series.
I swear by the Angiris Council, if they destroy my beloved Sanctuary like they did with Azeroth (no offense WoW lovers); I will threaten to do something horrible to sound very, very angry but never actually go through with, so I can stay out of jail, because I will end up buying and playing said "abomination" in the end anyway.
EDIT: As a side note; how many people voted that there would be Diablo 4, were wishfully thinking?
There will be 2 expansions for D3, and no to D4. Blizzard's timeline has been shown multiple times. WoW has 2 more expansions planned, along with SC2 and D3 each having 2. Their secret project Titan is flopping hard so far from what I've read. Trying to find the link in my guild's forums relating to this all.
I don't think Bliz was going to make D3 until people started asking for it (I have a beef with Square Enix about KH3, but that's another story)so it wouldn't be too hard to believe if enough people were asking for it they wouldn't make it. In the next 4 years or so I hope to see bliz announcing Warcraft 4 and by then we will all be getting into the early onset of D3's final years of being relevant to gaming. Of course this is all speculation of a personal persuasion.
In my last post, I really just meant that they would be more likely to make more D3 content or expansions if the new mmo doesn't turn out well or gets cancelled. Leaked schedules didn't really reveal the mmo prematurely. I remember Blizzard employees mentioning how many teams they had working and how big their teams were, shedding light on the mmo project as far back as late 07 or early 08. Hard to remember the exact time.
I think with time and effort, D3's replayability will improve and it will sell plenty of boxes. I do see Blizzard focusing on whatever titles they can encourage more consumer transactions with though. I don't see much potential for microtransactions in a game like SC2, so if they need to flesh out something other than their mmo's, D3 is a decent candidate. Blizzard isn't the type to churn out a game of every franchise every year like their sister companies, so this is just how it's going to be if things stay the same.

I have also read that diablo 3 is the last in the series. I can see one or two xpacs coming out but no more than two. I would love to see diablo continue as well as warcraft and starcraft but only time will tell.
