Just went down to my local EB Games on the Gold Coast in AUS, and pre-ordered my copy of the Diablo III Collector's Edition. The deposit price for the pre-order was $50 and is available for Midnight release pickup.
Price at the moment (or so the internet recons) is $148.00. In my opinion it might be the exact retail price given the fact that the normal copy is 98$ and, a $50 deposit pre-order for the Collectors Edition comes to the suggested $148.00
Oh, didn't notice this is an australian site. My bad.
Even so. USD to UAD is like 1.05. Why do you pay 50% more?
In Brazil the Starcraft 2 collector's edition was priced at nearly 300 dollars - a 200% increase in price). That and the fact that I would be confined to the Latin American servers meant I couldn't fill my dream of having one but I will one day.
It's called taxes. Some governments think that games (an entertainment freaking popular nowadays that's used so people have fun) should have the same import taxes as Cigarettes or Alcoholic beverages.
As a lawyer, sometimes I feel ashamed of our laws, and even more of our corrupted politicians.
Years ago this would have made sense because the AUD was lower than it is now.
I believe that the prices haven't changed because the game retailers know that Australians are willing to pay these prices when the dollar was worth less, so they'll try charge us the same average amount for games hoping we don't notice.
The game + shipping costs from overseas end up usually costing more than retail stores, so there really is no alternative there.
ok... i guess probably i will be having "Glorious Feelings" too, for the release here in poor ol' Greece ...
..i havent found any D3 preorder yet... but i compaired prices to recent game releases,(BF3, Rage, etc) in Amazon, and on the shop i plan to buy D3 here... and i found out that they keep the $ to Euro ratio...
so if the price for D3 at Amazon is around $60.00, here it will be around 40-45 Euro... so, it doesnt look bad so far..
Actually, dear neighboor, the $ to € prices are usually fixed. So $60 means €60 for us EU guys. Hopefully our countries manage to figure something out, but I highly doubt it.
I sooo hope there is a midnight release here in Holland, some bitch in the local gaming store sayd there wont be in Holland cause the fanbase is to small.
I swear to god i wanted to smak the bitch lights out.
I'm a wow player (don't kill me) so I have the free Digital copy but I did also preorder the CE today at gamestop. So I'll be able to play as soon as servers are up and go get my CE copy whenever.
Does feel like D3 is closer than it seems. Very excited.

Pretty excited.
The SC2 collector edition was $99 while the standart was $60. Diablo 3 will be the same.
I've no idea where you got those prices from.

Sorry my friend, do you live in Australia? No.
Diablo 3 collectors edition in Australia is $148 AU.
Normal edition is $98 AU.

Kotaku investigated this. Decent read with some interesting info.
And the politicians getting richer and richer... it makes me sick.
I'll probably ask a friend or relative who is going to the US next year to bring me one.
