White - we all know no one will equip this other than the first 2-3 hours of the game Green - set items Blue - regular magic items Dark Blue - upgraded magic items (has unique affixes than regular blue) Yellow - rare Dark Gold - unique (makes a come back, maybe) (sorry forum doesn't have gold like text color) Orange - normal to nighmare Dark Orange - hell to inferno Red - god slaying?
I get where your coming from but I would have to disagree with some aspects of your post. Although I think three colours isn't enough, going over five would be over the top. If multiple different items dropped at the same time it would be like looking at a rainbow, which would be totes ridic.
Yeah I know, those are just my wish (base on my experience on another action rpg) but I can definitely go for them adding back green for set (as official) and another color for unique (gold/dark gold or any appropriate color). Like I said diablo has millions of millions of random loot (not to mention this is a game that you'll play for years and years) and just having 3 feels kinda underwhelming. I'm definitely okay with what we have right now just to be clear.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
I"m not really excited about the unique mods right now, specialy in uniques.
I was expecting for totally CRAZY stuff like:
* Reduces the speed of all nearby enemies
* % chance to instant kill enemies (deals 10% HP damage vs. bosses and uniques)
* % chance on hit to automatically use any of your skills without using energy or activating cooldowns (wizard and wd only)
I think unques should have really unique effect, nalmost like an passive skill.
You can't make items that powerful or you make them the only item anyone will ever use, which is exactly what Blizzard is trying to avoid.
Infinity anyone?
It's not a matter of power, it's a matter of variety.
They can easilly add those mods and still make everything balanced. You just have to pick the right x% number for proc rates, the right amount of damaged reduction, etc...
I just think choosing items should more comlex then pick 3~4 mods and choose the items with the highest values.

A lot of people already said that this is D3 base game... most of the super crazy attributes on items didn't occur till LoD. Also ever thought that maybe "Unique" item means high end super rare and not oh uber crazy special abilities? Yeah, it might be interesting and fun... but that shouldn't turn you off the game.
