I still have a feeling that on Patch 15, Blizzard announces the release date. Why Patch 15, well 15 years they've celebrated diablo (towards the end of this year will be Blizzard's 16th year of the making). Patch 14 has been mentioned but no news at the moment.
Seriously? This isn't the return of Christ! This game isn't going to be released based on some numerical coincidence, or a secret code or Jay's cat's birthday. I'm pretty sure there are a lot more important factors in deciding when to announce a release date then half-baked number games.
Ok Nostradamus, let's see your theory :).
I don't have a theory, because unless I possess some additional information about the situation, than I have nothing relevant to contribute. I don't mean to offend I just can't believe you really think your idea sounds plausible. This would have to be the conversation at Blizzard HQ - Jay "Hey uh guys wer'e going to announce the release date tomorrow"
Dev guy- "What is there a big gaming convention tomorrow?"
Jay-"No"
Dev guy- "Ok did you just get the go ahead from all the teams that everything ready to go?"
Jay-"No no much more relevant and brilliant, Diablo is roughly fifteen years old so rather than thinking about any business or marketing logic we'll just announce the release when we release PATCH 15! I'm sure at least one random ass clown out there will understand the connection"
So you're saying that everyone that is calculating and guessing the release date are wrong to do so. Seems fair in your view. We should just play the wait game and be bored (not having fun guessing or calculating) and wait until Jay us. Doesn't bother me at all, just thought that the title of the forum explains it. And again, if he does announce it within the next 2 patch since the release date is immenent, then I, and many more, will be happy. If not, then we will continue to play the waiting game.
There is no Diablo 3. It's just a part of a massive prank on the part of Blizzard. The big news they're planning to announce is that they're renaming the company to Trollhard.
They even programmed an hour of the "game" that serves as a fake beta to make the illusion more convincing.
You'll see. You'll see and remember my words.
when they do announce the date it will be 4-6 weeks to live, they will want it out fast, mots of the retailers are setup and waiing for blizz to say, some even have copies of D3 in their main offices
This is what Im hoping for. Im hoping the hype (or flaming, no such thing as bad press :P) from the pro-longed beta and delays is enough to shorten the usual 2 month window of (HEY EVERYONE! D3 RELEASE DATE IS X!) so the word gets to the people who dont pay attention to Diablo 3, faster. Im still hoping for a mid april release.
Scroll of Resurrection for WoW is a sign of no release date being announced for at least a few weeks I'd say. They obviously want to get a few people to resubscribe to WoW with this deal, and so we've got a few weeks - 7 days of free playing + extra time for word to spread; I don't imagine they'd want their Diablo III release announcement competing with that.
This puts announcement 20th at the soonest, and there is just no way April 17th is release date in this case. Sad face, I was really thinking release announcement this week, or next and still optimistically holding on to april 17th. =(
and its dying fast, its gona get embarrasing in what ways blizz will do in the future to keep it alive
ofc they will and want to, its a business, but it will be funny waht they introduce
its not "dying fast" not even close.. 11 million , 10 million, 9 million w/e it will be at, thats a MASSIVE number of players, its falling from its high horse, but its not dying by any means

yea its very highest was like around 13-14m? if even that high. and now its around 10m. any game with over 500k players thats p2p is successful. wow is "wildly successful" and isnt going to die down anytime in the next 10 years. esp since they keep updating content and releasing expansions. and if WoW suddenly switched to f2p i have no doubt it would jump up to like 30m+

i didnt say it wasnt sucessfull bud
i loved wow, now its ok, as for member subs, 10 mill is huuuge, double the population of here in Ireland
but my IMO if it dropped to 5 million people would blizz have the same interest in WoW? i doubt it, even tho its 5 mill, they have been hitting over the 10 mill mark for over half a decade now
again i wasnt saying it wasnt successful, just i think it will drop steady over the next 16 months, much like chelsea football club
yes they will. Trion came out with Rift and barley has 250k members p2p and they still constantly update content and such because its more then worth it for them to do so. WoW will get massive attention from blizzard because even if cut into fourths its STILL their biggest cash cow by light years. the only way wow would stop getting attention is if it dropped below 1m AND they came out with WoW2.

Anyone try nerding it up and looking for website statistics like when the official Diablo III page was created and when it expires? I would bet most companies would buy out a domain name for at least a year after the release of a new title. Depending on who you get your information from the dates may vary some, but I'm betting on the 3/31/13 expiration date giving a 3/31/12 release date for this title. Just my "Speculation."

considering you can rent a domain for up to 10 years for very very cheap. and when you rent it for a year at a time its just whatever month you got it. so no that doesnt mean anything. and they got diablo3.com from the owners of THIS website awhile ago on a random date that has nothing to do the release date of the game

a lot of people never believe hearsay but you never know. some guy posted info about the rune system before it was announced.
Yup. They'll announce that they will soon have an announcement concerning the release date of Diablo 3 on March 12.
thats one of the worst speculations I've ever heard.
