http://i.imgur.com/z9AI9zh.png (the large gap at the end of the "panel stage" on Friday has always been there, and the panel stage is rather small so you wouldn't announce/discuss a major game release there)
As you can see, there's no large gap (similar to the Overwatch reveal in 2014) that hints at a big release
On the bright side, Diablo's booth isn't as small as last year and not tucked in a corner, but in the middle of the action; however, still by far the smallest of all of Blizzard's game booths.
What I take from that is that D4 and D3X2 are off the table for this year's Blizzcon. To be fair, not too surprising: as the content in patches with _x2 strings already hinted and the Forbes article highlighted a while ago, D3X2 was probably scrapped a long time ago. And D4 hired very basic jobs this year - concept artists, interface designers, game director - so those people probably just started forming the team, and it'll be another year (or two) before Blizzard has stuff that is actually "worthwhile to be displayed to public".
However, I still stand by my prediction that the shortened season S7 hints at an interesting patch 2.5 with a PTR for Diablo just after Blizzcon. If they wouldn't have anything for us, there would be no need for a developer Q&A panel (in addition to the "Diablo history" event on the main stage), because in times of no content the developer panel oftentimes just turns into a Diablo history session. I also wouldn't rule out D2HD entirely, though it's less likely in my book than some interesting 2.5 features.
Besides our main Diablo CM, Kauza was added to the team recently and Tyvalir came back as well. A game that has zero development and is in long-term maintenance doesn't really need 3 full-time CMs in Irvine. I think. I hope. Let's all hope! ;-)
Their tweet doesnt make sense then, i dont get it.
I forgot about that!
To make that crystal clear: They wouldn't have tweeted that for nothing but a 20 year anniversary. We'll get *something*. We might not get D4 or D3X2, but I personally would love to see some of the player's concerns being addressed in a patch 2.5. Give me... a paragon fix. Some loot hunt that lasts for more than 30 hours. Give me runewords. I dunno, I could envision a bunch of stuff to get me excited. It's not like D3 is a bad game - if it was, we wouldn't be here, but just playing Minesweeper all day or whatever floats your boat.
So Diablo 20th Anniversary is a primetime panel on the main stage. I would think something is going to be announced. Why slot the game that is, for a lack of a better word, "dead" for primetime?
On another note you can clearly see Blizzard's push for competitive eSports style games. It is speculated to be the future of sports.

Exactly, and when you read "Join the Diablo III development team for a look back on two decades in Sanctuary, and get a first look at our plans to celebrate the occasion." it is clear it will not just be a "yay, we are 20, end of show" and specifically states they are doing "SOMETHING".

Fixing Paragon is a must, and I hope it comes with an elaborate skill system such as D2. Something that boosts skills, is capped, and allows for flexible playstyles.
Adding something like runewords also fits better with that sort of system.
I am okay with current drops rates atm, due to Ancients, however, I ABSOLUTELY HATE SETS. They ruin diversity and force you to play X instead of trying Y and Z. That is a terrible concept. Set powers could be reworked and tuned into a new system, but should not lock gear slots preventing diversity.
Oh, hell yes. Grinding for runes would give us all good reason for hundreds of hours of new fun. We now have the Cube already. Just toss us 20-30 solid runewords.
So, the only question remaining is: When is RoE closed beta starting? I guess January/March 2017. And runewords will be in, that is sure. I mean they have to be planned to be added long time ago. No way such a unique feature to be left out.
I thought this was pretty obvious as well, and to dupe people, they put the contests on the stage that Diablo was just on so that nobody immediately drew the connection!
Sorry, but we'll have to hit the breaks on this particular hype train. The contests have always been simulcast on the panel stage, so this empty slot doesn't mean anything. They won't put a big new game announcement on the small panel stage when everyone's at the contests - they never had any big thing happening in parallel with the contest.
Also, the seemingly "free space" on the tournaments stages is always there. They don't want to end all tournaments at the same time. It's always been like that, it's empty and there won't be anything following this:
The schedule really doesn't have anything. They'd have to kick out some other game's announced session, and that'd cause riots in those game's community... so not gonna happen.
well this dude on youtube made an argument that a new character might be revealed. if they scrapped an expansion and delivered us all the assets, the character is missing, alot of other segments of the expansion is already delivered.
Yep. People are literally gonna shit their pants when they see the new patch content, making it convenient that the D3 booth is so close to the bathroom.

Sry for bad english. But if we check 2014's schedule we can see that there is no panels about OW, similar to any blizzcon when new expansion for any game is announced they cant just add unannounced project to a schedule because it would spoil and be pretty weird. And even after the annouce they talk much about new stuff and time for that magically appears. They can keep a secret when they want to. HYPE TRAIN MUST GO ON.
Again, unfortunately not the case. At Blizzcon 2014 there was the 2 hour opening event featuring OW and a one hour panel on Saturday. Both were huge blank spots; people speculated about a LotV announcement.

There are most certainly gaps for changes, most years they run within 5-10 minutes of eachother from what I remember.
And a release usually is not more than 20 minutes of OMG THIS SHIT IS AWESOME
yeah, no. extremely small booth, a bit of grey spaces which don't promise anything really big.
kick me in the groins if i'm wrong, but i think we won't get anything besides some sort of nostalgic remake stuff.

There will be nothing new.
