You're assuming that D3 will have the same unbalanced single vs double handed swords. For all we know, the best double handed swords will be much more powerful than single handed, making up for possible dual wielding AND the loss in defense.
Or maybe dual wielding carries a defense penalty beyond just not having the shield.
You can't really say, unless you're from the future, and have already seen all the end game weapons.
I believe that Blizzard has stated that its goal is to have dual wield and 2-handed weapons be equal. It should only be a play style preference. Of course if they succeed in this remains to be seen, but it seems like an easier task to balance that than some other things.

As was said, this is all pretty much speculation. Saying "x is overpowered" is extremely misleading and based off information we don't have.
I'm changing the thread name to "Dual Wield vs Single Wield". PM me if you want another specific name.
it is pretty obvious that a double bonus from both is much bigger than any other end-game two handed sword.
thoughts?

Melee dual-wielding 1 handers has always looked pretty badass with 2 swords :-) But a good sharp axe or heavy hammer can be pretty rockin' as well :-)
