Rush or no rush. Just because they tell us "when it's ready" doesn't mean they work without any internal schedule or deadlines.
And we believe their internal schedule is saying just before christmas.
I don't think you "get" blizzard. They literally don't care when they release, at all, and they never have. Dates circulated anywhere, even "internal" documents are just a something they projected at one point in time.
It saddens me that you and only a couple of others in this thread understand how Blizzard works.. Everyone else just seems to ignore the past, and are living in some dream world.
dunno why everyone thinks that "TRUE BETA" means A LOT OF BUGS.
True beta (at least thats how i understand) means that they will launch it to public without testing it before.
Ofc there will be bugs (theyre always there hiding) so lets just hope there wont be many BIG ones.
"A lot of" is relative from person to person, so you can't really use that as an argument. And yes, they have tested it before starting the beta. It's called alpha.
Typically (repeat, typically) the main purpose of Alpha is to find the big, gating showstopper type of bugs. Companies do not want end-users' first experience with the code to be rife with huge issues, and will typically delay beta release until the code is quite stable.
That said, I'm a bit surprised by Bashiok's assessment. I understand the need for compatibility testing, but the fact that Beta is SOOO short, with such a HUGE restriction of features (no PvP, no runes, very few skills, no AH, etc), I would venture a guess that Alpha testing is not going well. I mean hell, they're re-writing runes as we speak.
Anyway, I must say it's really nice to have this much info about Blizzard's progress. I'm not gonna knock them, I greatly appreciate their transparency!
You know D3 is gonna be amazing, so don't worry kiddos!

Did they care about SC2 or WoW expansions that have all released late since they took over?
This brings up a good question that may have been answered somewhere before but does Activision have any major say in Blizzard game development?
It seems to me that it's more of a financial partnership because Mike Morhaim is still CEO of Blizzard and Blizzard has their own executive structure apart from Activision corporate. I would say that Activision could be the problem but from all outward appearances it doesn't seem like they do.

Blizzard is one of the few companies strong enough to get bought by Acti and not have to bend and quake at their will. Mostly because they're one of the most profitable companies on the planet. If they keep up their current pace, I seriously doubt Activision will ever swoop in and demand they do something.
I think they would be just fine with 2012 - a $300 mil boost in '12 would help obscure the WoW slide, especially when combined with the new CoD.
MW3 release date: 11/8/2011
Also, not sure where you're getting 300M.
But consider this: Releasing before xmas 2011, when excitement for D3 is highest (at/on release), will boost sales by a noticeable amount.. families all over the world save money so they can buy their kids stuff for xmas. If they release after, those families will be kicking themselves because they blew their savings and jacked their credit cards on their greedy kids again this year, and will not have as much disposable income to buy them games for the next few months (which happens to be when D3 will drop). Consumer spending always falls off a cliff in Jan, and stays lower up until about tax time.
By the time the next xmas rolls around, excitement for D3 will be much lower when compared with the excitement at launch, so you won't get the same xmas boost in sales.

And how do you know so much about Blizzard's in house policy? Every single post from you have some negative aura in one way or another to it like you're some sort of know it all better than anyone else on this forum. Everyones guess and theory is as good as yours.
He knows, because its happened before. I don't know how many damn times I need to mention SC2 being delayed from X-Mas '9 to May '10.
That ontop of the fact that Blizzard has stated MANY times that their release policy is "Release it when we feel its done".
I don't see why people are raging so damn hard at me.. All I posted was my assumption, I haven't bad mouthed anyone that hasn't bad mouthed me.. And I've tried my best to keep this friendly, but every is just having these outbursts of anger at me for no reason. It as if you think I dont want the game to come out early.. I do, I just don't see it happening im sorry.

I know what release dates have been since I began playing blizzard titles in the orcs and humans days. And you probably shouldn't confuse negativity with an opposite opinion. Just because I disagreeed with or proved you wrong, don't mean I don't like you.
Also, everyone's "guess" is equally useless. However, and "educated guess," is worth discussing. Based on the prior release data that we all have, i'd say a set-in-stone release date at this point is a bad guess. My educated guess would be: guess during or after the beta. =)
He knows, because its happened before. I don't know how many damn times I need to mention SC2 being delayed from X-Mas '9 to May '10
Let's follow your reasoning here. If X happened Y times before, X will always happen. QED.
No sir. I don't like it.
Once again, It's just an assumption, I didn't say it WOULD happen. The only reason I even brought up SC2 was because someone earlier said "Blizzard would never be so stupid to delay a game past the Holiday season".
Also if X happened Y times before, I think it's safer to assume X might happen another time, rather then not.
True say, but you don't KNOW it will happen. I have master's in science, I know how that shit works guys.
Read the post I quoted. Hint: It starts with "He knows".
Edit: for the record, I completely agree with you that it's safe to assume they will delay it based on past behavior. But it's still an assumption. My issue was with this person's purported knowledge.
Full disclosure: I'm a 2012'er.

Doh! You got me! But it just supports my point, actually - they need bliz to stuff '12 with more revenue than 2011, three box sales will help disguise the WoW bleeding.
300m is a rough (and possibly high) estimate of gross, they could move 7-8 million boxes in the first year of release.
There's really no reason to stuff those earnings into 2011, it would step on a WoW content patch, as well. The point is moot, anyhow - as I said, MM specifically said that they have no tech done on the RMAH. Money out the door is a totally new thing for bliz, and they aren't the most agile company, being dominated by a culture of seniority and yes-men.
Whatever data you use it is equally as useless as any guess. The data you use is the data leaked to the public. You have no idea what their real scheulde looks like, nor do we.
Like any project they have a projected date they want to finish. That could change depending on how things turn out when testing, like in any software development.
You really need to get rid of the negative attitude and stop talking to people like there is a need for someone to come tell us what an educated guess is and what a useless guess is.
As I explained before, disagreement is not negativity. I provided you with a definition. Did that make you feel small? I apologize.
We come to the forums and discuss, sometimes people agrees sometimes they don't. But nobody sure as hell doesn't need a wiseguy to come here with the attitude of thinking you know the best and discuss in that manner.
Wiseguy eh? I like what that implies (because i'm a big fanboi of the 30s mafia), but I don't think you quite understand good posting from mocking. Probably because i'm usually right and i'm usually correcting you.

Actually that's empirical observation, except we would say X happened Y times (in succession) and thus we predict X will continue to happen.

eehehehehehehehe. (secrets: me too)
degree is electrical engineering. nano.
but back on topic... what was the topic again? someone is mad and/or disappointed about something?
i love these threads tho, keeps my troll skills sharp.

Surely a veteran troll would have questioned empirical reason and gone on about intelligent creationism from that point?
Oh?
Yes, I explained that I had an educated guess. Problem?
Past release dates are public... Here you go.
