I've a hard time thinking we will run the same acts 4 times . . .
I got a feeling that the 4th difficulty (if true) will bring quite a different challenge, i doubt they will just up the stats/hp/dmg etc... of mobs in the end game.
Have they confirmed nightmare mode? They might of ditched Nightmare for hell. I would love Norm, Nm , Hell , Inferno tho and make it so you need a party to survive. Unless you are the best of the best.
Normal, Nightmare & Hell Difficulty levels had been the thread since the original DIABLO I was released in 1997. For those of you who haven't even tried playing the original game, don't make assumptions based on what you only began to realize from D2.
More so, Blizzard wont be a fool to just take out Nightmare or Hell difficulty levels from the equation for that matter since it has been on Diablo I & II.

Now I find it funny how you bring up that Blizzard would be a fool to not put Nightmare and Hell into Diablo because it was in Diablo 1 and 2...where are my manual stat points or skills again or townportals or potion spam? Right this is Diablo 3 and not Diablo 1 or 2, they could give a damn about tradition with this game, so counting Nightmare out is totally a possibility. Just like the skill system Nightmare mode can be recoded and vanish before release. I doubt it will happen but don't put to much faith in Blizzard buddy.
come on they can think of a better name then that... it's like you go to nightmare uh oh that sounds bad... then you end up in HELL damn this must be really hard... then... ....inferno? the heck, everything is on fire i guess? or they just make you eat alot of chilis
call it ...... friggin' masochist or "torture" mode or something... you know make it sound like something that makes you think of it being hellaciously hard... and painful
- could be one of the endgame, where we grind for ubah loots, no more junks drops here so loots are a lot less but when loots do drop they're usually high quality, adds excitement to keep moving on to the next wave of encounter.
- since AI is much smarter in this game, monsters in this difficulty are far more aggressive than before not just added health, speed or resistance (monsters actually strafes on your attacks more often). normal monster now gains a few behavior/traits/skills that lieutenants/elites/unique/bosses have.
- or this could simply just the name after you picked hardcore difficulty.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
I think inferno will probably not be an additional difficulty, but rather some different game mode. Whatever that may be.
I think the recent Diablo.cc interview had a statement by Jay Wilson, which discussed the different difficulties and only mentioned Norm, NM and Hell.
That is why we believe this is a slip of the tongue since they haven't discussed anything related to the end game, they are saving a lot of info for blizzcon.
I think it should be called something like "Eternal Damnation" I don't mind Inferno though, but I do see how some would feel it sounds less intimidating than hell.
Somebody ask Diablo on twitter - "a difficulty mode called inferno is mentioned. Does this come after hell?
Are they being sarcastic?
I have to believe there is going to be a 4th difficulty. Three main reasons why:
1. They wouldn't post an incorrect interview on the official Blizzard site.
2. Bashiok would have corrected it in the Twitter post instead of being silly (which is a Blizzard thing to do).
3. If they replaced Nightmare with Inferno or pushed Hell back to Nightmare's place and just called Hell the new Inferno, they would not have went through the work to make the Nightmare insignia in the screenshots.
This leaves me to believe Inferno difficulty is for level 60's working the game a 4th time to collect phat ass loot.

In situations like this, some analytical skills are needed & basically, thinking is needed as well.
First of, your argument about where are your manual stat points or skills again or town portals or potion spam are reasonable. But you have to read more articles & try to watch all the videos on YouTube with what the designers have discussed during BlizzCon2010.
In the event of TPs, they addressed the issue of players running away easily whenever the game gets difficult. Basically, they chicken out to avoid dying which is associated with players hoarding all their points & massively dumping it to one or two attack skills, which is why again they decided to revamp the Skill system.
With the new Skill System, you get, 6 active skills & 3 passive skills, which according to Bashiok - Blizzard Representative - 08/01/2011 - "So how many skill combinations are there now? Well taking into account 6 active skills, all the rune combinations, and 3 passives we currently expect each class to have roughly 2,285,814,795,264 different build combinations."
These are the total number of builds you can customize your character into compared to the 96,886,969,344 that Julian Love - Lead Technical Artist for Diablo III - mentioned during lasr 2010's Blizzcon.
This does not include things like gear, dyes, charms, anything like that this is purely active skills."
If that is still hard to understand, then read the Wiki master, PhrozenDragon's explanation:
This seems to me, to be the direction they were going with the removal of skill points - to allow more experimentation and open, easy game-play. The new proposed changes to runes would make us much less likely to experiment, and instead of using 5 runes to trial the 20-odd skills, we would need a minimum of 100 runes (and that is in the unlikely event that you never double up on the runes-skill binding).
The problem with your argument is that skill points were not removed to make the game dumber, they were removed because the skill point mechanic didn't work with the rest of the game. Runes are there to make the skill system more complex.
In fact, the rune system can in effect be considered a soft mechanic to limit respeccing. True, you can switch skills on the fly whenever you want, but unless you have the proper runes to go along with that switch it won't be feasible later in the game. It will definitely be possible in the early game, which will allow you to experiment with different skill setups. But the late game in Hell will not.
I like the system, even the random rune effect thing if they decide to go with that. It's the exact same system that Identify served in D2, so I don't see the big deal with runes being determined after you put them into a skill. You can always just replace them with the old one you just had in there.
Now, from the Press Event video provided by Force, listen to Mike Morhaime at time stamped 1:04:27, stating that the press played the near final version of the Beta content, and that the response had been overwhelmingly positive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IM9Ye_s6A8w&feature=player_embedded
Since there was a Normal & Nightmare difficulty level on the Beta content that the press were able to play, that simply means that's how it is.
Also, you mistake yourself in associating the difficulty mode settings of the system to the actual game play settings. These are 2 different things. If they change shit in game play doesn't mean they'll change custom with difficulty as facts, images & videos had already proven.
So for us loyal Blizzard fans, we keep our hopes up & we will continue to keep our hopes up as Blizzard had not failed in delivering games that we enjoy playing, contrary to whatever negative side remarks you may have buddy.
In situations like this, some analytical skills are needed & basically, thinking is needed as well.
Right cause I had no idea about any of this? Anything else I need to know? I was kinda wondering, what character classes there are and is there PvP or how many acts. Can you fill me in buddy? I am r so lost! I brought up the potions and skills and everything else to prove a point that nothing is safe in Diablo 3 because it is/was tradition, you obviously do not comprehend this so if it is hard for you to understand why not rewatch all of these interviews and watch them remove and replace tradition with newer systems.
The problem with your argument is that skill points were not removed to make the game dumber, they were removed because the skill point mechanic didn't work with the rest of the game. Runes are there to make the skill system more complex.
Right cause I said anywhere about making the game dumber right? We are talking about a traditional difficulty, which is only in common with what I used as an example by that fact that they are traditional features to Diablo 1 and 2 which coincides with your argument where you said they would be a fool to take out nightmare because it is traditional, again do you comprehend this?

Riiiight, I forgot it is impossible for blizzard to give us old screen shots or show us a demo or beta that is outdated with their current release, silly me! You sit there and talk like you are the Diablo god of knowledge and that I am somehow not a loyal fan or am clueless, which is the farthest thing from the truth. My negative side remarks like what? That you responded poorly then got butt hurt that I called you on it nicely and then you scrambled to put together some make-shift argument over stuff I didn't even use in the form you are using?
AAAAAANNNNNNDD AGAIN I WILL REITERATE MYSELF! I do not think they are taking out Nightmare, I was merely looking for evidence that it existed and apparently it does/did. If anyone else does not understand this please let me know because I have no idea about anything Diablo related, I don't even know where I am, I thought this was GuildWars.

Not only will I run the same acts 4 times, I plan to run them several hundred times.
I'm pretty sure adding a 4th difficulty doesn't create any repetition I wasn't already chomping-at-the-bit for.

As images from the recently held press event would prove, there is a Nightmare difficulty level which shows & proves that those people who played the in-house Alpha, are between levels 30-35 when they are starting to play Nightmare difficulty ACTS I & II. You can verify this by looking at the said images closely.
There is a Normal difficulty: http://media-diablofans.cursecdn.com/attachments/7/778/635170212877460775.jpg
& also a Nightmare difficulty: http://media-diablofans.cursecdn.com/attachments/7/777/635170212860949124.JPG
My PvP build would be different from these 13.

Masochist mode would be much much better.

Hardest, well-made mod I've found.
Only 2 classes, but good luck finishing Act 1 (Or even killing Blood Raven for that matter)
I'm Lvl 13, in Catacombs Lvl 2, and struggling
Drink the start potion for easy-mode.
