Yeah, i saw that about an hour ago. I'm really glad they didn't go for it. It looks nothing like a Diablo game should look (for me at least). Still made me curious about the direction the current team took for the game. Wondering if we'll get to fight Angels in Sanctuary or even in Heaven in the game or an expansion.
It certainly looks that way from the old pics, thats if they use the old ideas. I also agree it doesn't look diabloish, certainly not the heavenly looking place, that dungeon though looks bad in terms of graphics but good in terms of diablo dark and gritty is what i get.

It looks the game was quite progressed at that time, but for some reason it looks more like i'd expect Titan Quest to look than Diablo. It is kinda gritty but it doesn't give me the dark feeling the current build does.
Not talking about the graphics btw, 2004-2005 was quite a while back, it couldn't look much better. Its the general style and mood that's kinda... strangely unfitting.
I agree the dungeon to me looks okay, I don't think its as good as what we have now, not by a long shot, but it is pretty fair considering the trouble that went on at Blizzard North. I'm surprised they had this much of a working game to show.

Well considering the small range of screenshots we have it definitely could just be an Act. I must say I like the current art style more, but I would like to see other areas in the old art style, but I doubt we'll really see much else.
This is pretty important too i think. Even though the camera is close, the character isn't that visible and it's a complete mess to look at. The monsters don't make much sense either, i can only see 2 angels in those screenshots and quite a few demons (and something like a golem guard?)
Yeah again, if this where a separate Act in the High Heavens I would've gladly played it. Just need to bring the camera back up and then it will be the 2004 Diablo 3.
I don't think any of it looks THAT bad. Yeah it does look a bit too clean and sterile and Blizzard North always struck me as sort of the darker kinds of people. I pictured them being more moody and pensive and they didn't drink energy drinks like their Blizzard counterparts. They just drank black coffee, dammit!
Those screens actually reminded me of some Baldur's Gate locations.
Interesting. The art style definitely reminds me of D2, it seems like they had a lot of the same artists involved and were using some of the same techniques. I really hate the camera angles though. Overall the whole thing kinda lacks contrast and seems really bland. I can see what Blizzard meant when they said early versions of Diablo 3 didn't have anything special enough to really distinguish them from Diablo 2. Still, the game shown in those shots was clearly unfinished. Many of the models are quite clunky and unrefined, they look like placeholder models.
the camera was always at an awkward angle in those shots that gave it a very uncomfortable feel. this made me exponentially more happy with the direction our diablo 3 is going in.
This looks EXACTLY like the pandemonium fortress/harrogoth style of doing things. Minus a fair amount of polish, but yeesh. You might like what's going on now much better, but this is very close to what Diablo II was doing.
Between it being the year 2004, and it being by BlizNorth that's about what I would have expected.
I can gladly say I 100% would prefer the Diablo 3 as we know it over that art direction. It looks like Diablo 2.5 as far as the art style is concerned. Seeing that made me all the more pleased with now Diablo 3 has progressed in the hands of the current team.

Anyways, I would've gladly tried out the game from Blizzard North

I hate the way you cling to ignorance and pass it off as innocence
