Of course there is no announcement about the beta yet, but its probably safe to assume it will start within the next year. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I would play given an invite, but I think right now I probably would not play it.
I would be afraid of ruining the awe and excitement of playing the game for the first time by taking part in the beta. Plus, as people who played the Starcraft 2 beta learned, there are some serious withdrawals during the downtime when the beta ends but the game isn't released yet.
Do you think Blizzard will offer up the whole game for beta testing, or will they release just the first act, or just a few dungeons and PVP? I mainly made this thread because I'm curious to know what the rest of you would do. Would you play the Diablo 3 beta?
Hell yes! News for Diablo 3 isn't worth reading anymore but just to skim. There is nothing else new for us to learn and playing the game would be better than reading it.

I completely agree that it can take the luster off the release day.
I myself would only play a very very small portion of the game if I got into beta, maybe no more than an hour of play, just to get a rough feel of how epic its going to be to tie me over until release day.
Id also only play some class that I didnt plan on playing until last also.
In short, I sure would save alot of the experience for release day.

If given the chance (don't think I will tbh), there's no way I couldn't not have a go. Been patiently waiting since the official announcement like many others I'm sure.
Betas, so far in my life, have only reduced my love for any games I have played, mostly because what I think is broken or lacking in the Beta... never actually changes in the final product.
In other words, I jump into the Beta expecting imperfections that can be changed... but they don't change.
But how to resist? I couldn't possibly resist trying it. For better or for worst, I would play it.
i was reading down the comments thinking i was safe then BAM! Ophion make the point i was gonna make lol.
i would wanna make all the characters and learn about all the skills, no matter how hard i would try it'd be impossible for me to figure out good skills not in-game. dunno if id uninstall though, i think id just try n play every character for a few levels
I would probably play it. I would most likley DEVOUR the beta and just play it 24 hours straight if I could lolz. Although I would try to do only side quests and not do any main ones since I to dont want the story spoiled for me.

I wouldn't. For the same reason i try not to watch trailers of epic movies before i watch them. I want it all to be a surprise when i try the whole package with my friends
I would check out the characters and their skilltrees, then uninstall it and give the key to someone else.
It would be linked to your b.net account though
Anyway, yes i want to play the beta but i dont think that i will. I might not have time, or simply just not get a beta key.
If you'd ask me this question last year i would say OMFG YES... but honestly, the more i gave it thought the more i came to realise that playing the beta would ruin the feeling of Diablo 3. When it actualy hits the stores you know.
I'd be reluctant to play it because as I experienced with SC2, the game isn't as awesome after you play the beta (single player still blew my face off). But if I had a key sitting in my inbox, I'd inevitably play it, no doubt.

It will be a no for me. I likely will not have the time to devote to beta testing. I also do not want to register with Blizzard an account.
You know you'll have to register to a Blizzard battle.net account to play, right? It's going to be exactly like Starcraft II on that matter.
For me a beta only prepares me for the real deal. Loved the experience of participating in the SC2 beta. Knew what bugs i should expect from Age of Conan (even though there were "relatively" fewer than in the late beta) and knew i shouldn't buy Command & Conquer 4
I'd definitely love to test Diablo III before it's out. Try some weird combos in skill selection etc.
Yea if anything it can be time to test out which character I like the best. That way I can spend all my time quickly leveling up a guy with my friends instead of having to start over early on cuz I don't like a class as much as I thought I would. And save myself some gold on respecs for choosing early game skills. I don't see the downside. I've waited long enough, I want to play ASAP.
I would Beta Test the living daylights out of it!!!
Safe guess there will only be act 1 and I am sure not all will be revealed anyway... or if for whatever reason they can control via a B-NET let you play act 1 for a few days.. then maybe let beta test PvP... then maybe back to act1 for a few days.. don't know but that would be ok..
I definitely would not want to play past act1..
I remember being in the D2 beta test.. and here in AUST I had only a 33 Bit Modem.. Oh those were the fun days... LOL the Beta was a massive 50 MB which back then my ISP kicked you off after 4 Hrs regardless.. so had to set the alarm to wake up ( free aft hrs downloads ) as the D2 Beta took over 4 Hrs to download ... oh it was awesome LOL!! I went to work very late that morning hahahha
anyway it's a YES for Beta for me
