Jay Wilson says "its over 50% done" and that you can play it from start to finish. Granted that doesn't mean its all that close, but its some pretty damn good info on how far along they are.
Yea if you had the virtual ticket, you saw this, but it's good info nonetheless. He says that a lot of the scenes made are just kind of place-holders at the moment. He mentions being able to kill bosses with one hit and advancing so on.
That's bullshit, i would say they have about 70-80% of the game done, he said this so they can push the launch into mid 2011, and not dim the sales of cataclysm.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
"over 50%" could easily be 70-80% since it is "over" 50%
they just don't want to give a definitive date. we'll know more once they announce when the beta starts.

Being able to play through the whole game suggests like a 65-70% completion to me, but considering this process has taken years, that extra 30 or so percent could still take well into 2011. Even if its 80% done that 20% could still take until mid 2011. He said that the demo is going to be released 6 months before the game so even if they started it tomorrow it would take until around May 2011. They still have to do a lot of traits/skills for the DH and Monk, but apparently the Barb, Wiz, and WD are all pretty complete. And then theres itemization and boss fights, which it seems like a lot of them haven't been designed yet. So mid 2011 would seem to be the absolute earliest they could release the game, I'm going late 2011 to 2012, as on IGN in an article about SC2's expansion one of the designers said that they would be hard pressed for a 2011 release, and it could take longer than that, opening up the possibility of D3 being Blizz's 2011 release.
Also, on a side note, when one of the guys asks the crowd "Do you want resilience in Diablo 3?" the closed captions say "Do you want Brazilians in Diablo 3?" Pretty hilarious.
He seemed more than sure that the game was over 50% done, which leads me to believe they have to be AT LEAST 70% done with it. I say with a few more implementations and tweaks, we will be looking at a beta fairly soon.
What did he mean in the 3rd part of the interview when they were talking about subscription. He was saying they were not sure of how they were going to market the game.... So does this mean P2P is still up in the air or??? Someone please clarify that that confused me alot.

SC2 took that route, apparently: In some regions, you can pay to play instead of buying the full version. Or at least, thats what I heard, I didn't find any info on it with a quick search.
Example: Pay 5$ a month to play, or pay 60$ and have unlimited play time.
As long as I can get it somehow for 60$, I'm fine with it. Its just the idea that some regions are FORCED to pay to play is what pisses me off, and thats how it sounds.
Heck, the idea that they would use this p2p business model for North America is insanely ridiculous.
Yea SC2 had different payments and it worked pretty fine. It was basically so that in places where $60 is a bit much for a game, theres the option to pay a cheaper price or something like that. I would bet in North America its going to be a $60 game. I would be surprised otherwise.
all i got from this interview is that content wise they're almost 100% done. now they need to do the maths to make the fights interesting and challenging and then to start polishing.

well no...you have to think jay even said last year one of the main reasons why its taking so long is because when they are done they polish it and everything so when the make something "complete" that means polished and everthing so that being said 50% of the game is DONE and ready to ship which means they can have the whole game out by june of 2011 so once somethings DONE its DONE on the D3 team
first you create something, then you polish it. Blizzard is well famous for being perfectionists that tend to take too much time to polish their games before release.
i think we agree that the models of the monsters are done, the locations are done (locations are 100% confirmed to be done since he said it that you can walk from the start of the game to the end) character classes are done (with the need of some tweaking that they do after the release too). what's left? to actually make the final parts of the game and the boss fights work and to make sure that the game hits beta with as few bugs as possible so they can work better with optimization.
imo, saying its over 50% done is really nothing at all ... I mean we all know that already, giving that they have been working on it for years now ...
A more approproate number would have been something more concrete and much higher .. its definitely higher. Seeing that quote basically did nothing for me.
I really hate to be the person to point this out, but Jay mentioned not being able to talk about too much stuff in order to have something for next Blizzcon. That pretty much shuts down my highly optimistic estimation of a late June 2011 release.
He was joking that the announcement for the next blizzcon was going to be that they had scrapped a class. Obviously thats not going to happen. And him saying its over 50% done was in response to a person asking, also in a somewhat joking manner, "so you're over half way there?" The main part of the quote was him saying that you can play the game from start to finish. Now that could mean that places are just graybox levels like we saw in the Crafting Sanctuary panel, but its still something good.
man some of you guys get so mad, you think blizzard is just holding on to a finished game and not talking about it so that one of their other games will sell better. thats stupid. have you ever made a game before? it takes a bunzload of work. and blizzard like to polish things, so it takes even longer. just chill out and wait. there are other games out there.

Well we wouldn't know that would we?
Entirely possible. I tend to take things too literally sometimes.
