I have always played Diablo 2 with expansion alone in a one-player mode "so called".
Will D3 be good enough to be a one-player adventure? I thought D2 was great!
I hope I can play both alone and with some friends and feel that it gives me one hell of an adventure however I choose to play it.
We have known for an eternity already that the game is built first and foremost for a solo player, that is one player alone can do all the story content. Beyond that, there's no reason to think that playing solo would be less fun, except for the fact that you are... well.. alone, which is entirely up to your preference.

Pretty much.
Why the sudden influx of threads with topics that have already been discussed so many times, or with questions already answered so many times before? I'm at a loss.
I played online with a few Dfans members a while ago. Before then, I played SP for about 7 years. I still prefer SP. Playing with friends is fun, but I don't cream my pants at the thought of it. I'd surely play online a lot when D3 comes out, but SP will remain my stronghold, and my favorite mode.
I play single player quite a bit on Battle.net in private games, just so I could get access to ladder only content. Then I came across a thread that had a file that allowed the stuff without ladder. Single player is more challenging as you don't have anybody to help you bash in faces.

I never understood why single player is so much more fun. To me I find it quite boring all alone by myself wandering in a dark jungle killing things not talking to anyone... ya know it kinda gets lonely out there.

I find that 90% of the time, playing with random people is an horrible experience for me. I don't get along with random nobody folks when most of them don't care about anyone either.
I only really ever bothered with the multiplayer in D2 with friends and thats it. And also only when we only progressed together. And no rushing. Thats fun for sure.
In short, with friends you know its fun. Otherwise, I'd rather be left alone.

That's why you have the option of leaving the game and finding someone else to play with. Not all online players are jerks. If you play multiplayer then you have the flexibility of playing alone AND playing with friends, with the same characters you've built up! I don't get what the point of single player is unless you don't have the internet...

Thanks guys for responding so quick on this thread.
My question was answered.
Reasons for myself is that when I had Diablo 2, I never was on Battle.net - I played on Local Area Networks sometimes with random people in real life or by my one friend (the only I know liked Diablo 2) by TCP/IP address.
And yeah, My internet sucked back then. However, I like to play with friends. Once I grab the D3 I would like some from Diablofans to be my battle.net friends.
Add me as a friend here If you would like to bash faces with me, I would love to kill some monsters with you guys

To be frank, D2 allowed mods, which I couldn't live without. Unlimited stash, for example. And I could also cheat. I know I often tried to.. hum... "trade" myself drops with equivalent I could actually use, for example. I also played out of battle.net with my friend for the same reason, so that we are not forced to partake in the game's economy to get any useful items. If only there ever was a working mod that made monsters a lot more likely to drop good stuff in single player, I would've been in heaven.
I'm just saying, I always customize/change the gaming experience to suit what I want. Its something apparently very few people do. Which is why I'll cry if D3 doesn't support mods in any way.
I just hope I dont have to authorize my battle.net account to play sinlge player...

(Oh and Jake, supporting mods and allowing mods is not the same thing. D2 did not support mods, but they existed anyway. There is always a way to modify single player, don't worry.)
I don't think thats true, though I'm no expert. But I've seen games that have never had any sorts of mods presumably because the game's files are encrypted and there's no way you can read or modifying them without some tools/something from the developer.
A lot of things in D2 were "hard coded" and without source, you can't modify them. We're just lucky there were things accessible for it to be modified, but what if now there is nothing? And I would not be surprised, since this is going to be on Bnet 2.0, where even when playing alone they prefer to have you connected, which implies having no modified files.
I'm just saying, allowing mods *is* supporting mods, in a way, because we need them to set the ground a certain way, otherwise mods will be scarce or inexistent.
Also, the first thing you quoted is about creating character online, not about focusing on multiplayer. Its not quite the same thing.

Be damn sure you will have to. No way Blizzard is letting that kind of control out of their sight. You're lucky that we don't have to be connected at all time to play.
I very much doubt you will be forced to have a B.Net account to play SP. To play MP, yes, but to play offline, it will probably be like SC2, which has an offline/guest button.
What I think I'll do is play through the game at least once on my own. It'll probably be in private games, just so I can then bring it into the online world for NM and hell modes, and for trading when I'm done. I'll do this because I like to take my time the first time through, you know, stop and smell the roses. That's hard when you have people racing through everything.

That sounds great! I wanna try both SP and MP
I have never played any MODs.
I have killed the Cow King only about 4 times in my life since I usually play D2 from the beginning all the time lol.

Pure and fun!
