While we are all aware of the fact that Blizzard loves to regurgitate monsters and bring different versions of certain monsters to newer levels and even rename them and bring them back in even the same act. Here are some examples:
The Acid Spitters of level 9 in Diablo I are much like the Rock Jumpers and Tree Crawlers of A2 and A3 in Diablo II and again you find them under a different name in A4 as you leave the Pandemonium Fortress. The Brutes are the same, just a different name, than a few types from A1 and again in A5 and so on and so forth. (There are other examples, but you see where I'm going.)
This being said, the possibilities of not just creating and coming up with more monsters for Diablo III are near endless. We know of a few new types. The Unburied, the Scavenger, the Dune Thresher. Could we see more monsters make their way back into Diablo III like the Shamans and the Fallen Ones and even the Undead? Or even the regurgitation of the known new monsters under different names further into Diablo III?
I want to hear your thoughts.

If they dont have distinctly different monster models, then why is this game taking so long to create?
They must be devoting a lot of time to creating unique models, when and were it calls for it in game. I have no problem with fighting the same creatures hear and there, as long as it fits the story line.
My guess again is that given the development time, Im sure there will be unique models throughout the game.
Funny, I can't believe this is the first time we've discussed this topic.
Once the A2 serpents made a reappearance with a whole new look I started to wonder the same thing. So far in A1 we have the fallen and Goat-men and in A2 we have the serpents. What other monsters will we see? In my mind there is one monster that sticks out that Blizz HAS to put in D2. And, that monster is the Pit Lord. In my mind, if they throw us in hell, which they will, the game would not be complete without winged, horned, fire spitting pit lords chasing after you. Thats the one monster I would literally bet money on coming back.
I have this funny feeling that we are also going to see a return of the mighty Fetish. I hate them soooooooo much. The stupid bone fetish killed my lvl 60 hardcore werebear. That is a staple monster for any jungle scene on Sanctuary. Who else... I think A1 bats could definitely make a return if they haven't already in some gameplay vid. The A2 Great Mummy should definitely be given a sequel. Wraiths(ghosts) should definitely be brought back. They were very visually appealing. They would look great in 3D. I would absolutely love to see a revival of Council members from A3. If Baal is to make an appearance in this game then certainly we need Baal's minions (the little guys with axes and spikes n stuff),and Death Maulers.

After reading the title, I thought this article was going to be about Regurgitators.
But I think that using the same types of monsters thoughtful the game is necessary not only so they can use the same model and just color it differently, but because it makes sense lore wise. Most of the monsters are designated to be minions of a certain prime evil or lesser evil, so I think that they should be involved in the entire act leading up to that act boss and I don't see any other way to make the monsters harder besides just making them different ranks of the same base monster.
Could we see more monsters make their way back into Diablo III like the Shamans and the Fallen Ones and even the Undead?
I think that some monsters need to make it back to D3 just because they are staples of diablo. Fallen, zombies, skeletons and goat men have been a huge part of both Diablo 1 and Diablo II and I would be upset if I don't get to kill them again in D3 (especially the goat men, the sound they made when dying in D1 was amazing, so I get great pleasure seeing them fall).
Ha! Thought the same thing when reading the title and I was wondering what was so special about regurgitators for them to deserve a thread.
As for bringing back monsters, I have no problem or concern regarding the matter. It is to say the least necessary like Hippo said in maintaining a certain link and flow between the series.
I have seen a few new guys in both concept art and gameplay vids, so I can say with enough certainty we'll have quite some variety in the main menu as well.

Oh yes! The Megademon has to make a reappearance. Along with the Fallen, they're about as demonic as they get in Diablo.
Oh man, we need huge bat-winged demons rushing out of a dark corridor. We definitely need that.
I have this funny feeling that we are also going to see a return of the mighty Fetish. I hate them soooooooo much. The stupid bone fetish killed my lvl 60 hardcore werebear. That is a staple monster for any jungle scene on Sanctuary. Who else...
Please no fetishes. I don't care if they're ultra important for the lore, retcon their asses out of Diablo please.
The wraiths I think are safe bet though, you couldn't have a crypt in D2 without them floating around.
I'm going to bet on the Thorned Hulk and the Wendigo returning. Both appear in the books, and it would make little sense to have them there unless they were there to foreshadow for D3.

Those are all coming back, see the Khazra for the new goatmen.

Thorned Hulk really? I don't think we'll see them. Maybe the Wendigo but I have a reason to think neither will appear. Maybe the Wendigo because of it making a case for itself as a staple. But both are pretty lame to me, not very unique. With all the new monsters I could easily see them being replaced by some newer more innovative creature.

Yes. Though I will concede that they may not necessarily appear as monsters. Both the Wendigo and the Throned Hulks have been corrupted by the Three in D2. It is possible that corruption has since left them. Still, I expect to see something of them.
But both are pretty lame to me, not very unique. With all the new monsters I could easily see them being replaced by some newer more innovative creature.
I wouldn't exactly call Diablo II the hallmark of monster innovation in the video game industry. I suppose Duriel is original, maggots and badass usually never fit in the same sentence, and the Death Maulers I suppose, but it's not a whole lot. So why should these monsters be ruled out because they're unoriginal?

You're talking about two different things here though. One is bringing back a monster from a previous game into a new incarnation in the next. Like how the Rock Jumpers were supposedly the Acid Spitters from D1. I never really bought that though. Those Rock Jumpers were NOTHING like the awesome Acid Spitter. But then you're also talking about how say in D2 you'll find one monster in one act, and find the exact same monster in another only a different color and maybe a bit stronger.
This being said, the possibilities of not just creating and coming up with more monsters for Diablo III are near endless. We know of a few new types. The Unburied, the Scavenger, the Dune Thresher. It's not always well executed. Many of us were disappointed in the Hell Knights in D2. The ones in D1 were like, "Bwaa bwaa bwaa!!! And then when they died, it was so awesome and they'd whirl around with energy and be all like, "Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!"
But the D2 ones were more like, "Eh, ehh? Uh huh....oh okay." And then when they died they were like, "Ahh."
I really like so far the presentation of the Fallen in D3. I think they went in the right direction with them. I'm not fond of the Khazra though. Only because I don't like their background story. I think it suited them more to be purely just demons spawned from Hell. But definitely of a lesser kind. I think you always gotta have the Undead in games like this. I hope we see lots of Undead though that aren't all glowing and bristling with magic. I like just straight up skeletons and zombies. Or my favorite Undead were the Horde from D2: Act 5. I like skeletons that still have some flesh on them and just enough of a windpipe to exhale cool Dune references like, "Muad'Dib!" Seriously, they say that! But hopefully we'll also see Undead with no legs, and just crawling on the ground, trying to eat our flesh. The Unburied was kind of a cool new concept for the Undead I thought. Though it needs to lose that loincloth still. And NOT just cause I wanna see some zombie wang. But I just can't imagine a creature who is created though the melding together of multiple corpses would be really concerned about covering its shame.
The Scavenger does seem like a reincarnation of the Cliff Leaper. Hopefully it won't be as annoying to fight.
It's not so bad when they do that from one act to another. But I like it when they do more than just change their color. Like maybe later on you'd see the same monsters, but wearing more armor, or some monster that previously had no spikes, now does.

I'm not convinced they're actually supposed to be the same monster. Maybe 10 years ago the creators imagined them to, but they're so far off that it seems entirely possible for Blizzard to bring back the original Hell Knights in a new incarnation more closely related to their appearance in D1.

Perhaps his creator is so repulsed by what he sees that he covers it up? The monster might not care, but his creator might.

I've nothing against "regurgitation" of monsters, it actuallys creats more oportunity for then to add more variate of those. However, the monster shouldn't be just a stronger version. They should get different stats patern (like red fallens are relatively faster but purple fallens deals relatively more dmg) and skills (like red fallen shsmans using fire spells and purple fallen shamans using lightning spells).
Perhaps his creator is so repulsed by what he sees that he covers it up? The monster might not care, but his creator might.
Nah. I think we can all agree it's to appeal to most people's sensibilities. But there doesn't even have to be a zombie wang there. It could just be nothing. The existence of a crotch for a monster doesn't have to include genitilia. Regardless, I should get over it.
I've never actually listened that closely to them, but I'd say Siaynoq is imagining just a little bit here
Like fun I am. How many times can you honestly remember just standing there and watching a monster in D2 and listening to it. Play Act V again and pay attention to them. I swear that's what they say. They think you're the fucking Kwizatz Haderach!
that thing scared the daylights out of me when i played D1. the thought of them creeping around...uggghhh *shivers*
That's actually kind of cool, but the ability to turn invisible is no different from the Gloams that could also. But still, it would be kind of cool to see them.

Not exactly. The Gloams just faded out, you could still see them. The Hidden thought were completely invisible (even if you could predict where they would go, you had no idea where they were until they appeared the first time.
I liked that invisibility. So long as it isn't given to a monster with the ability to one-shot you but still provides a challenge, I think it can definitely add to the experience nervourness. Depends on what pace D3 is played in though, I suspect it's a little too fast to have time to bother with some random invisible monsters that might be there.
Some diversity of in-game monster models is a must. All enemies having the same model is dumb and the change of color palette is not an excuse for a new model. What can be done is that monsters get to have a different weapon equipped (if there are meant to have one), different armor sets (one lacking shoulders, other lacking a helm).
Coloror palettes senve an important purpose though. That way, you can have the same monster but with different stats to fit different situations.
Obviously we're not going to see lime-green monsters running around just because they're posion immune, it's not going to be that extreme. But color shifts are just as viable as different armor sets to differentiate between different kinds of monsters.

and maybe the Tainted from D2/Lightning Demons from D1(Yes, they are the same) to make a return.
No freaking way! You're trying to tell me those lethargic fat horned things that shot lightning balls from their mouths are supposed to be the lean lighting throwing badasses from D1? You're crazzzzy!
Still though, you're like, wrong. The Tainted in D2 were so stupid looking. And the way they lurched forward to shoot lightning balls out of their mouth. C'bon! C'bon....
