If im wrong about this im sorry, but this needs to be said, and I dont think anyone else who protested having a limit of 4 thought of this, but gain maybe im wrong.
ok, Maximum party size 4, thats great, is this maximum people in game 4 as well?
if its not, then im sorry, but if it is, this needs to be changed.
I start a game, 2 people join, one is in another act, and another is a player killer, or a noob, or doing a quest somewhere else, or goes afk, then im stuck with the maximum number of people i can have in a party is 1,
so im now in a game with Person A: in a different act, person B: no help there, and person C: maybe decide to take my town portal, join my party,
so basically you will spend an hour just finding this party of 4, gooooood job, doesnt that just sound thrilling?
the more people in game the more likely you are to get a party, your afraid of players just mutilating the monsters?
what happend to D2 more people = harder monsters, whats the problem?
all it does is make it harder for players to find other people to play with if limit is 4
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
yea, i recall hearing about this before too, i dont think its been confirmed how many people a game will hold. But im pretty confident that there will be a 5-7 limit. I think it would be pretty stupid to have 5 possible characters, and limit the games so you cant have 1 of each playing at once.
so yea, im predicting 7 myself, so that with an expansion you can play a game with all characters.
Well, as good of a point this is, I think there may be more to consider. This brings up a very good point yes, if D3 is set up like D2 then yes, it would definitely be a problem.
However, something tells me it's not going to be set up like that.
Considering the major remodeling that B.net underwent, I think it's safe to say that Blizz has probably taken this into consideration and addressed it properly. As in, say, making game hosting differently to where it's set up in a way that almost forces you to play.
This is a bit hard to explain but I'll put it in terms of an RTS such as WC3 or Starcraft.
In those games, when you make a firm decision to enter a game, your definitely not going to be going afk if you know what I mean. Unless you want to risk losing.
With a game setup to only hold 4 players I'm almost positive Blizzard has taken this into account and will have B.net set up to strongly encourage play and strongly discourage going afk or doing anything but playing with a team.
Maybe, they will have it setup to where, if your hosting a game, you should only expect people of the demographic you desire. What I mean by that is there might not be any more name your own game stuff. Rather, it would be in a category. Such as "Multiplayer; Act 2" meaning, anyone who entered that game had to go through a series of drop down bars and specifically select your game type. You know what I mean?
That is only an example to set up a scenario where a max of 4 players would work.
Who knows, they could have done a number of things to make it much easier to get a party going.

Eru, what other things about diablo3 dont you like? I actually kind of like the direction they took it in in most aspects, the 4 party limit thing was the first thing I really didnt like, but I probably dont know everything about D3
all we can do is pray they dont limit it to 4. get your best Ward off party limit 4 prayer aura going ^.^
hmm drop down menus? gotta take a test to enter a game?
i suppose it would make sure people there are going after what your going after, but also if there are 7 players in a game, its easier to find someone to group with.
but what about PVP ? limited to two vs two? no major clan wars? im sure alot of people wont like that, not as much of a deal, but still, im seeing more reasons to have a bigger party size.
I think he just means filters, which they implemented more of in SC2, just in a different way (like all the separate ladders and stuff). Splits up the players so they're only seeing games they need to see, i.e., a lvl 2 won't be seeing an act 5 game. (Of course, because of grushing in d2, this was a good thing not to have, but it was a glitch.) We already have something similar to this, but to a less discriminate degree, in Diablo I/II with difficulties and lvl caps.

I was hoping for 9+ per game. I don't know how many times I was in a full duel game with bloodshed and chaos all over the place and thought man, this would be even better if more people were in here, well that is if the game wasn't so laggy and could actually handle it.
Lets face it, pvms a joke. Most 8 player games consist of 1 hammerdin/light sorc(bot) doing everything and 7 leeches either afk-ish hiding in a corner. I guess if you look at it from that perspective 4 players is an improvement though. Instead of 12.5% of the D2 population minimum being active(botting) for the rest to leech, 25% will have to be active(botting) with a 4 player limit.
Yeah it is rather a good thing there is only 4 to a game, just go look at the monk gameplay trailer and tell me when theres a huge fight with a bunch of monsters skills and people moving that you can say you saw everything that happened, cause i sure as hell didn't. It's already tough enough to see evrything now adding 3 more to the mix?, can anyone say extreme lagging from ur gpu and maybe some connection issues and a bunch of WTFS?!?!?!?! I mean i agree it may be small but for what will be happening ion huge fights its just not worth it to add more people into the mix where everything will just be blurred.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
sigh...once again, people don't realise, this game is NOT going to be a carbon copy of D2, this is D3, they have almost a completely different dev team, expect change whether you like it or not. so stop comparing a game that hasn't been released and which is still under development to D2. we know very LITTLE about D3's mechanics and how it will work...
/rant
my opinion on the four person game...sure it could be more fun with more people, but I'm sure most of you have seen the monk videos. If you had more than four people, you wouldn't be able to see anything. i was never much of a PvP person, but the times i did try it, hated it with more than like 3/4 people.
5 ? up it to at least 5, 4 just seems so shabby, and if the game mechanics are so different why revert to a diablo 1 party of 4 limit system?
I heard someone say odd numbers are better anyway, and it will have 5 char classes, it should at least be 5 ^.^

Well, pretty much everything lol, i still might be surprised tho, you never know.. but the 4 player thing, that affects all of the gameplay, from pve to pvp.
We are all assuming that blizzard will allow us to increase the player cap (in what we call, pvp games) but no one knows for sure, right now the game is limited to 4 people, and thats it, and it sucks. It might (and probably will) work for pve, but i can tell right now that pvp will be ruined.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
Alright, first off.
The development team have confirmed that they will scale down the effects.
BlizzCon and all that was just to test and see if things worked, and if it didn't, they would change it.
The game is balanced around four people at this moment, perhaps you don't realize just how much time it takes to re-balance a game this far into development.
And perhaps you do not understand, butDiablo is first and foremost a co-op Hack 'n' Slash game, the PvP is the second priority.
Now they are going to improve the PvP from Diablo 2. It's just that we don't know how.
Oh and people worrying about that the effects will make your computer lag, I'm fairly sure you will be able to lower the graphical settings.
^This
It's not so much making your computer lag though, it's just the inability to see anything when there are four people playing (judging by the monk video). But knowing Blizzard, they'll refine the effects. Also, people shouldn't forget that watching someone else play, and you being in the drivers seat is different. watching a video of a new game, and expecting to see and know everything is impossible...if it were YOU (aimed at myself and any others struggling to understand what is happening in the monk videos) playing the monk in those videos, you wouldn't be so lost as to what's happening .
I actually like the 4 players cap, it forces you to play as a team and help each other out, and also, there is way too much visuals going on right now with only 4 players, it would be too chaotic with more then 4 players.
Turmobil, where did you see that they were going to lower the visuals ???
definetley but i can tell you they've been all about effects so don't expects it to be toned down to the point where 20 ppl wouldnt lag or hurt your view of anyone in a game.

Actually I'm thinking once we get to play the game all of this stuff we see flying over the screen in gameplay videos now that we can't really make sense of we will then recognise as certain skills. It's like people that can't read only see a bunch of characters all over the place, but once you learn the words you only see those, you don't really notice the characters anymore. That's why I don't think the skill effects will be as messy as we think they'll be.
Thank you Ivaron very good point, just because you people cant make out what all the flashy colors on the screen are doing, is kind of dumb, you just cant make it out because lets face it your all NOOBS, Diablo 3 noobs
skill effects being too flashy is honestly the lamest reason ive heard to cap it at 4
