Problem?
For the last 6-7 years, join any D2 game and as soon as you hit the lobby or any channel, you immidetely start seeing spam from companies selling D2 items for cash. They whisper you in games, they whisper you in channels, they spam in channels etc
It really hurts the game economy when you have these companies who BOT (or use chinese farmers like in WoW), selling items to players.
Solution
Very simple idea.
When you purchase a diablo 3 account, you should only be allowed to make one account (with a increased amount of characters available per account: something like a maximum of 30 characters per account. No one is realistically going to have more than 30 characters)
This won't stop people who wanna go and research on the internet places to buy items, but it will definitely put an end to open soliciting. These companies won't be able to spam channels or spam games or whisper people advertising their items
Blizz should include a "report" function directly in game. You just "Print screen" while in game, click that button, and submit it. And it will directly be sent to blizzard where they can instantly ban the account of the character who is associated with that game selling/solicitiation.
They won't be able to advertise so openly in game if everytime they do, they get reported and $40 is down the tube because they need a new CD-Key. The cost of advertising becomes too high.
The problem with WoW is the Try-Out accounts. Blizzard needs to have as many players as possible to play the game, cause WoW is very addictive. And what is a better way then a 10 day free trial. To bad it's also being used by gold sellers.
As far as your "solution" I doubt it will work. Gold sellers will always find a way in. That's just the way things go these days. There is only one simple solution and that is to stop buy items and gold from them. But that isn't going to happen.
My advise. Don't think about it to much and focus on the game itself. I understand that in Diablo II it's very annoying cause your whole screen is full of spam. But they will fix it in Diablo III I'm sure.
Hi, thanks for the reply
I'm not under the assumption that such a change would stop item sellers. Of-course not.
But what it would do, instantly put an end to public solicitation which would go a long way to stopping their harmful impact on the game economy. The only people buying from them are those who actively seek them out. But it becomes a much bigger situation when new players or casual players who make up a huge part of the population, are constantly seeing messages in chat and whisper saying stuff like "D2CART! Buy all the best items for under $5!"
:offtopic:(kinda) I was thinking about how i would (in Diablo 3) find lower level sets of nice gear with a high level and want to keep them for alternate characters i have yet to try.
Ideaz 4 d3 kthx
Would there a way i can quench my impatience in leveling up alternate characters on the same account to try out these ideas without giving into Bots and cheap labour?
:necro:(they use a simalar method in WoW should you want to try a deathknight for those with endgame levels) ...i found the smileys
First, make report simple, fast and easy. Like a buttom in the menu with "report".
Third, the game will very problably don't have a trial, sicen it's not a mmo.
I think D3 can be spam free, it's not that complicated.

The demos were released with the game like no beta on the day of release you could download a demo and try that. And to adress the spam issue yes its annoying but they should just introduce voice chatting so you can mute recorded messages and have a btton to hide the persons chat. Not too hard and much easier.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
There are other ways of dealing with bots and spammers "behind the scenes" that Blizzard are probably very conscious of. Although I can't say gold/item selling will never flourish in Diablo 3 (it's actually a big industry in parts of China to sell gold in WoW), I doubt its consequences will snowball into other players like it does in Diablo 2. I am confident Blizzard has learned a lot from WoW and Diablo 2, and will ensure the majority of Diablo 3 players won't ever notice the effects of cheating and stacking.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
I do not think that D3 is going to be totally hack free. I think Bots are still going to be in the game running for items.
The thing is on how do you play the game. I just use what I find or create and have fun. I do not care what other people have or what builds they do. I just play the game to have fun.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.
But theres a lot of games where you can play all by yourself.
A BIG part of the diablo experience revolves around the economy, don't get me wrong, but it's very hard to believe you never traded in D2. And if you didn't , your missing it..

I have never traded when I was playing battlenet. I played mostly alone even when there was 7 other players in the game. I gave stuff away for free. I never took anything unless I found it myself or I made it or gambled it. I played battlenet before 1.10 came out so the super powered runewords were not out. There was still Breath of the Dying but I did not need any of the high powered runewords. I never really got any of the high end uniques or sets but I did not need them to succeed in PvM. Hell I mostly played alone in games since not too many people would play public games.
I do not think I missed anything on the trading. To me the game is not about trading but killing monsters. If I wanted to trade I would be playing some sort of game based on economy.

This is quite hilarious to hear. What you call the experience of "trading" or the whole thing around "economy" is as secondary as PvP. I'm mostly a SP guy myself.
No one is missing anything because they don't want to waste their time trading.

I think it would work if they had more support for D2 Battle.net. Then, the report button could be used for much more than spammers.
Doesn't D2 and D1 have trials? lol
Yeah, but i mean, you can't play online with trials right ?
Hmm i quite confuse xD Maybe i'm wrong.

Yeah.. and only in one area like blood morr/den of evil.
