i obviously wasn't talking about actual real-life political lobbyists, i was just asking if the (quote)"rabid hatred flame wars saying no LAN"(un-quote) were pro-LAN or anti-LAN.
Oh, yeah. Both. We got ridiculous trolls and flamers on both sides just bashing each other for the dumbest reasons just because they didn't agree with each other. It was very rediculous.
oh, and by the way, D2 has LAN and it is one of the best selling games of all time. if D3 is equally good or better than D2, having a LAN option isn't gonna do much damage to their sales figures, i would imagine.
Until I can see some valid sales numbers directly associated and cited as compliant with LAN, I really can't believe this. I'm sorry man
How does a company like Blizzard make the most money out of their games?
Lans and Openbnet is nothing more then a CO-OP mode for people that didnt buy the game.
It seems like they want to remove that option, everyone that wants to play with another person has to buy the game.
.... Its all about the money folks. And to be honest, i don't mind at all. It'll take precious development time into parts of the game I'll never touch.

See I don't get peoples argument. The only upside to lan is no ping, and mods. Everything else is pretty much a downside to me. I mean if you only play LAN you can't have fun with other peopl you might not know, You cants ee leaderboards or say i achieved somethign in the multiplayer where EVERYBODY plays. I mean if your so worried about the "douchery" of asshole pkers and annoying children (It really is annoying today in PTR a kid came in and said you fuckign asshole its a test server fuckign idiot) verry annoying, anyway, back to my point you could simply go to B.Net type in one of your screennames and make the password 123... WALA you have a private game liek a LAN only with ping and no mods but you have the ladder the hardcore all that good stuff.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Hell, if they actually updated new content, then I'd gladly pay to play.
And it looks like that's the ONLY way you'll be getting new content.

Long, long time Diablo fan; short, short time with DiabloFans. USEast D2 Ladder/1.13 Beta: Accnt = ChezPizmo USEast WCIII Ladder: Accnt = TeeheeSprinkles A cool, unrelated video; "Dude Bids 420 on Price is Right" ("420, Bob") "I'm nasty, I'm old and a little bit ornery; I look like Patrick Stewart and sound like Sean Connery." Patch 1.13 = (click here)
so i guess you didn't see the part where i wrote "i actually bought the game twice". sorry, but i just happen to like to play games with people i actually know, and play them face to face if it's possible. i don't think it's such an outlandish concept as some people here seem to think.
HOT-SEAT M.P. FTW!
No I did read that part, but just because YOU bought it twice doesn't mean everyone did. Hell, that they even bought D2 once. Bring your computer to your friends house and get in a private game on battle.net, there you go. OH Crappy internet? Well you are shit out of luck because they are not going to put LAN in D3.
I'm starting to think that people want LAN just so they don't have to buy the game.
And with LAN, you can get that program that connects you with others on LAN using the same program. Can't remember the name? Anywho, with it you can go onto your local area and find games by other people also in local area, but halfway across the world. Makes for people using a pirated game or someone slse's cd-key to play online and bypass B.Net.

May be. All I know is we used it at a friend's when we had about 4 people on one WC3 CD-Key and wanted to do some 4v4
It really would make for online pirated gaming easy because it's got a whole interface, menu, friends list, clans, channels and even popular online games included. Pretty easy to use once you get into it.
With that said, still nothing like the legit online experience for that particular game. Not as many players obviously and most players seem to be casual ones.

can someone explain to me why you cant just go onto bnet 3, make a PRIVATE GAME with a PASSWORD? u tell ur friends the pasword, and bam! its is a secluded game for just ur friends. And really, i dont think there would be that much lag.
the only real problem that i read through this whole thing is if you dont have internet on aregular basis. To this, emilil1 (something like that, you all know him) had a great point. when u DO sign on, ur cd key pings in. maybe you need to have internet connection to do things first, but once that, its free reign.
imo, u wanna game with your friends in the same room, host a d3 game with a pass. ping? i think a .1 ping wont kill you.
game will be legit, we all know it. this little thing most likely wont make or break the deal. if so, in bliz eyes, it brings in more people who hated the d2 setup. so, like someone said before, your shit outa luck if you dont have internet. Bliz will make a work around tho, most likely, cuz it is a big game. Maybe not 100% screwed, but might have to take an inconvinient route.
i see your point, but i disagree. i've bought the game twice, and probably have no more than 20h in bnet, and the same goes to most people i used to LAN/TCP-IP with. playing in a room with 2/3 friends vs. playing in bnet just doesn't compare. it's like playing a sports game online vs. side by side, each with a controller, or being able to look across the table and laugh in your friend's face after you head-shot him with a sniper rifle in unreal tournament. it's just priceless. it's totally cool that some people don't play it, but just don't dismiss it as "a way to play without buying the game".
Precisely.

No ping and the option of mods are big advantages. Not needing an internet connection is a big advantage for many as well. Playing online does offer leaderboards/ladder and complete strangers, but that has little to no appeal to many players. For me and many others(albiet a minority) playing online in a private game or public only offers extra hassle and problems.

I'm starting to think that people want LAN just so they don't have to buy the game.
LAN is the difference between buying one copy vs two for me. Without LAN, I have no reason to buy a second copy but will gladly do so if it's available. I think the percentage of people that would pirate the game for the sake of playing LAN is much smaller than those that would be more likely to buy in order to play with friends via LAN.
I've been to many LAN events consisting of 200+ people and a D2 LAN event during the off time of main competition was always something to look forward too. It sucks that now in D3 that won't be available. Being able to jstart new chars from scratch and play all the way through normal diff. or higher was always a fun activity because creating characters that actually mattered to group comp came into play.

Make up the LAN you always did.. just get everyone connected to internet through same router or whatever your connection is.
While there make a private channel and private games.. Tadaa.
The game uses TCP/IP so most likely the protocol should be able to transfer most of the data going on between you guys in the same game just through the router/switch so there wouldn't even be any lag.
I played LAN with friends.. but being no LAN in D3.. I guess I don't really see the big deal? I mean just log onto battle net and create a private game with your friends like someone stated earlier.
The only reason why LAN was fun was because I could mod my character into being awesome and 1 shot my friends in duels....
I also wouldn't mind pay 2 play if it meant more game support and updates. Those things do cost money after all. Open B.Net and LAN not being included doesn't bother me much as I never fancied them so at the end of the day I'll be a happy camper.
