D1 was one scary setting. DII had four settings per act where you go out of a central location and traverse a large amount of area while basically going back to home base for every little thing.
Now, Bliz has said they dont want the old system and have already made a system of checkpoints for DIII. Soo...does this mean that one Act will cover a whole range of locations throughout Sanctuary? OR will it be just like before, with some changes in transportation methods?
Im sayin this simple 'cuz I want more locations! Just 4 locations in DIII is not enough, what say?
I think that he is saying that the towns rooted each act. No matter where you went in that act, you always had to go back to the same town. I hope that in Diablo 3, if i need to go to town it will not always be the exact same town I have been going to that entire act. Maybe one big city with two-three smaller camps/villages that I can go to do my business.

I just hope that the zones are still wide open and fun to conquer. The zones in the gameplay demos so far (I know they won't be the only zones) have been mostly pathways with seemingly one direction(yawn, Fable). Just saying I <3'ed the D2 wide open expanses.
Eh... I agree that having it open is fun- I like exploring- but there was really none of that in Diablo II. There were like a few corpses and some trees or buildings scattered about the overworld and that was it, so that it wasn't really feasible to explore it all. If they could make wide open areas but make them worth exploring (better landscaping, lol), then I would accede to that.
if d3 could bring, in a sense, the real world to this game, that would be epic. I, however, dont believe this will happen. Having an open game sort of thing where you could explore where ever is super complicated and takes a lot of time. i wish, but i doubt. maybe another series :\
exploration was always fun for me tho. i think thats why i liked finding the scroll in act 1. had to hunt your kill and got a reward in return. this is not to be confused with "go out, slay x monsters in y location" quests.

We will see the change of scenery through the travel. I love to having a sens of belonging like d1 town or d2 act1 town.
1.Outside (plains).
2. Caves ie: Den of evil.
3. Tower Cellar.
4. Catacombs.
Act2:
1.Outside (Desert).
2. Palace.
3. Arcane Sanctuary.
4. Tombs ie: Halls of the dead.
5. Sewers.
Act3:
1. Outside (Jungle).
2. Caves ie: Spider cavern.
3. Sewers.
4. Temples ie: Ruined Temple.
5. Durance of Hate.
Act4:
1. Outside.
2. River of flame.
3. Chaos Sanctuary.
Act5:
1. Outside (Highlands).
2. Ice caves.
3. Nihaltak's Temple.
4. Worldstone Keep.
5. Red Portals that lead to the Abyss / Abadon.
So, there are 3-5 different locations per act.
I think there will be 10-15 in D3.
