I didn't say powerful skills... They will all start out equally weak and grow in power and coolness with each level.

That would be quite nice... like the low level whirlwind has a really short distance, etc...
Yeah very nice !! I hope something like that, it's make more customization, any skill are weak but any skill can be powerful. We still to know how we will obtain point and how you will choose your skill.
I don't think we will be seeing the book skill system again. It worked OK for d1, where it was limited by magic points, that is, until you got elixirs- but was fixed in favour of sorcerors by that virtue- warrior and rogue could never get enough magic to read the highest level books so had fewer skills throughout the game.

That doesn't mean they cant make the skill books have a level requirement instead.

I think we'll be seeing something similar to the skill tree in d2 but with some kind of blizzardy twist- now what that twist is, thats the question. Me, I havn't got a clue, I'm just here to iterate what you already know : P
Most likely, maybe not a tree per se, more like an intertwined root system if you know what I mean. I would really like to see the skills in different trees interact with each other you know?
Since there are very few useable skills, I think the useable skills will be learned through quests obtained at certain lvls or in certain areas of the game. And you'll be give a list of passive skills to powerup those useable skills with skill points earned from leveling.
I think people are far too serious about a game that is this early in the iterative process. People are getting upset about nitty-gritty details when the game not even close to being polished. Worry about small details when the beta is released.
Here is my wishlist for a skill system:
1. Fun - if its not fun to get higher skill levels.
2. Challenging - not too easy. Separates the boys from the Diablo-vanquishing men.
3. Tiered - Better skills come as you progress through the game, everything should not be available at the beginning
4. Balanced - there should be about 10 builds per class that are equally awesome. Reduce the cookie cutter builds.
I didn't think of that murderface, but that could work. I'm happy that the synergies seem to have been setup better with the talent style skills, no more wasted points. Now if they allow the skill limits to be broken a little bit with items, then I'll be even happier. What are other peoples thoughts on this matter?
In d1, affixes like Angels and Arch Angels allowed for the spell levels to go above the natural maximum, and of course d2 took it a few too many steps further perhaps in the amount of +skill items, what do you think the future will hold for limit breaking skill barriers in d3?
x
I'm not disagree to see a skill level goes over there maximum, but d2 is too abusive, it's not normal to get level 40 when the maximum is 20 ?!...
It is ok if the skills are designed correctly. Diminishing returns should start to kick in at around level 30, that way you are encouraged to use other bonuses. + To Skills was way too OP in D2.
I agree. Maybe a soft and hard cap on skills. That way you could still want to find items that has + to skills for your spec, but couldnt over do it like in d2. But make plenty of items that has plus to skills. I just hate seeing ppl say this is the best helm for this class because it has +2 to whatever skill. Say maybe you have a helm +2 skill and your hard caped at 30, but you find a better helm stat wise. Then you could use some boots you found or traded for that has +2 and put on the nice helm you just found. Idk its just nice not to be limited to a few items.
Diablo: #DailyDiablo With our tweet Friday about the skill trees being removed/changed, what approach do you think we might be taking?
Then in responce to somebody suggesting this:
They replied with:
Official Blizzard Quote:
Diablo: @topheroly That seems to be a popular guess.
At least I'm interpreting that smiley and wording in a way that at least that popular guess wouldn't be correct.
They'll probably tell more about it this week.
Oh thats exciting. That would mean i was right... im never right. But its still not confirmed. But im guessing the smile at least means we are close. Im almost sure now that there will be no talent points. I just wish Blizz would at least confirm talent points or not in this new system. Cause if it fails i may go crazy wondering what it could have been.
I think a response sayin that it is a common guess means pretty much nothing other than that a lot of people think it is a raise skill through use system.
I still think it is a simple tier system where there are no prerequisites like in a tree system.

Perhaps we will be able to choose which skills we want when we create the character. They skills we choose is our "pool". They will be automatically sort themselves in a 1 branch tree (depending on their usefulness/power), or a "path". The skills will also automatically connect with eachother and give synergy bonuses.
Ohh good idea to choose on start !! and maybe each skill have a 1 branch tree and you upgarde what you want in these skill (like radius, damage or speed)
If ANYone has ever played FF10 they had a pool/path system. It could be nice to see blizz improve this system. You had a pool of skills with many paths. Maybe there will be a starting skill, and instead of having to go down, that skills has other skills around it in a 360 board, but you would have to unlock the skill adjacent to the skill your going for. This way your not limited to the paths you take, and would still give the since of improvement through lvling. If they was laid out in this manner there could be an endless combination of skill specs. Just a Thought.

It's the same thing as a tree that started in 1 branch and separate after... To be 360 or down, I don't care it's finally the same thing.
I'm guessing you're saying this because I quoted one guy on twitter proposing this type of skill system and I said that it was a popular guess.
Well, I think I can pretty safely say that we would never use that type of skill system.
It works for some games, it just wouldn't work for us. We're dropping too many items, we're moving too fast, and we're opening up too many avenues for customization and re-customization.

What do you mean by "dropped skill" system ?
No matter how long my vacations from this forum, I always come back to the comforting familiarity that is the laziness of my comrades.
Quote plz because I really doubt about that !!!
