This is suggestion, which if taken seriously, would really change how Diablo works... which some of you might not like.
But I really didn't like the idea of these "themed" Act system they had going on in Diablo 2. Act 1 had the forest/graveyard touch, Act 2 was a desert and had almost an Egyptian feel, and so on.
But I dunno... I like the idea of a whole world interconnected. Rather than having to warp from one Act to the next. I'm sure that's to keep people at low levels from moving too far ahead. But i'm sure there are ways to prevent that in a system where the world is interconnected. What do you all think?
Who said you would warp from Act to Act?
For all I know, you might be required to walk from one act to the other, unless you've been there before and activated the waypoint.
Are you suggesting a full, open world? If so, this has already been discussed time and time again. Simply put, we don't know. Most likley though, it is still the same Act system as Diablo II. Although, I think it would be great to have Mad's idea, yet it would effect the storyline far too much.
I don't exactly call traveling with a caravan, on a ship, or through two portals "warping".
You know what I mean...
As far as the player experience goes, there is no difference between getting on a "boat" and walking through a way point, it all looked like the same loading screen to me.
good idea !! Same as titan quest, walk in forest and pass to snow montain, see all transitions is great
Exactly! First time through you'd travel all the way there, in between everything, but later you could just waypoint/fast travel it.
Now I've gotta go back and play TQ. Thanks, thanks a lot.

i was wondering how they would handle end-game play, and difficulty adjustment. i think this time they are jsut gonna make really challenging non=primevil bosses for when u finish em off? or something apart form norm-night-hell
does anyone know a source that might clarify my curiosities further? x3
Not exactly a open world, but a road between the themed acts would be nice.
But it cuts down on the realism. How do you walk for 30 minutes and suddently find yourself in a whole different landscape? That is why the geography in WoW is so fucked up...
i think they, more than any concern for realistic landscape, are trying to make the landscape interesting; then following up with believability, they will be going for something to get your mind set off the journey, and more into the story line diablo is most famous for conveniently leading your character through.
i think they should give the world a more of a free feeling. eg: you can talk to strangers. you can actually see some culture outside town...settlements would be nice. the fences you cant get over are actually large (stopping you from thinging... "cmon i can jsut step over that"; most of which i think is implied in the next version).
As for suggestions: people saying things according to what is happening to the town at the present time would be cool.. just as text. and as for text said by the hero, fustration according to what is said by the hero through stupidity wrecks the feeling that your character is your own, and people (I) like to feel in control
I think we are going to have a world map which will have like 5 main cities / towns, and you can travel between them... There will also be a few outposts / farms / villages or whatever.
Ofcourse, waypoints will be there, but traveling from one town to another will be only possible after you finished the quests in the first town.
Maybe they wont be called "Acts" but it will be almost the same. The main difference is that we are actually going to have an in game map, unlike D2.
I'm not sure if by open world you mean living and breathing even when you aren't there, or simply being able to walk between all areas. TQ had the latter, AND acts.

Bashiok has mentioned that the town placement and map outlines will be static http://diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21803&highlight=adventure+system, so it's entirely possible that we'll be traveling on foot from town to town (or Act to Act as the case may be). I think, since we have an image of Sanctuary on the official D3 site, we can assume that there will be more continuity in between acts and places of interest.
As much as I hated the act system in diablo 2. I think they could improve a version of it in diablo 3. Maybe for instance they could show a video of you on a ship. Then during the video a monster comes out. The video ends and your on the ship fighting this monster.
I would just like to have more of a story inbetween the acts instead of oh you finished a act. here we will skip all this boring parts and send you to the next one.
I agree. the way the acts were put, and the amount of time it took to complete acts made it feel mor realistic. I think it could feel the same even with the "walk between acts" idea. Whose to say that these static maps won't be as large as the ones from D2? I think an interesting way of doing it would be to slowly change the terrain as you get further through the Act. That way, it may still take you a day or two to get through, but you don't get a sense of complete isolation between parts of the land.
I'm alson one that dislike "acts". It's make the game too insanely linear and i hate that. Only real action game fits this extreme linearity.
A open world would only bring good things to the game. And i'm not talking about stuff like in TQ. The game still is very linear because you have only 2 directions to go: back or foward. A open world means you have multiple different paths to take.
Imo, a open world is the next great step the Diablo genre must take.
Some problem may exist. For exemple, you dn't have how to put the diablo style in difficult there. But i dislike the difficult system anyway (have to play in the easy-retarded-mindless-crapload-of-noob-friendship called "normal" everytime i want to make a new character is ridicolous).
As I understand it, from what we've already been told, D3 will be one big open world...with the positions of towns fixed, and the dead space between towns having some randomized tiles to provide new encounters but without changing the overall pathway from one town to the next.
I think there will still be "acts" as in, a consistent geographic theme, but you could walk from one act to the other without needing to rely on a cutscene...
So...you would have to walk through all the transitions from start to finish, but you can always jump to a place you've already been using a waypoint for easy access. I think this is the same way it is in Titan Quest.
It really doesn't matter to me how they do it. I don't care if there are waypoints and you "warp" from Act 1 to Act 5. Not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but I did think it was cool in GTA3 when at the beginning of the game your character was directly involved in an accident that caused one of the bridges to another part of town to be out. It wasn't just that you weren't at the right part of the game to go there, but it made sense that you couldn't get to the next area. "Oh yeah the bridge blew up. I can't get over there yet cause they're still rebuilding it." Then when you were at the right point in the game to get across it, the vehicle radio announced "Repairs to the Bridge have finished, blah blah blah..." I just thought that was a cool way to keep you in one area until it was time to move onto the next. Maybe they could incorporate things like that in Diablo 3 I dunno. Maybe they can't or shouldn't. Just another possibility.
