Anyway, I also believe the storyline will be awesome. I am just trying to figure out why they are making Deckard Cain so important, what makes him mandatory in D3? Does anyone have any ideas other than my crazy one that Cain is actually Tyreal?

Dream as if you'll live forever, and live as if you'll die today. "James Dean"
Cain can't be tyrael but hes essential cause hes the only living horadrim. He was there when diablow as around hes the only one who has knowledge of the beasts and the only one who knew diablos destruction without seeing him, although he did come in contact with the wanderer. He is essentially the guy whoo knows everything and he just guides you.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Ok. I didn't mean for you guys to knit pick at my horribly crazy theory, it was almost 5am. I want new ideas of why he is so important and mandatory in the next game. Does anyone else have any theory's?

Since Blizz already clearly stated that gameplay will be prioritized above all else, lore and the plot will always come behind it. It means if the story is crappy and sh!t but it compensates with great game play, they will do it.
Do you guys recall D2 when you free him from burning Tristram? Notice how everyone was dead, except him? He just so happened to be the only one in tristram that they bothered to capture instead of murder on sight, and it just so happened that the heroes arrived just in time to save him.
Isn't it funny how he's the only npc that has survived all 3 games? Given his state and frailty, you'd think he would be one of the first to fall victim to the demonic onslaught.
I'm just saying, after reading the Sin War trilogy, i don't trust anyone anymore. Demons and angels changing form at will, WHO KNOWS WHO ANYONE IS!!!!! /crazy
Well I suppose anything's possible sanctus and maybe things will turn out that Cain is a supernatural being but I'm not sure that that was Blizzard North's original intention.
I think the reason that Cain was the only one left alive in Tristram was just a contrivance to keep him alive and able to be the hero's guide for Diablo 2. He was after all a very lovable and interesting character from Diablo and so it was in Blizzard North's interest to keep him alive as a nice gift to Diablo players.
Cain's journals from Diablo 2 certainly don't seem to indicate that he is anything more than human but if Blizzard chooses to make him supernatural I'm sure they can work around that. I however, hope they don't. I like to see Cain as one of the champions of humanity and evidence of the race's ingenuity and independence rather than another divine agent.

And Blizz isn't Bioware.

And that's my conspiracy theory. Roll with it.
