There have been many mixed reviews regarding the max player limit and I have come up with some reasons on why eight players would make the best of itself.
1. The player can choose the game type he wishes to play in, if he wants a four player max, he can select that in the game description.
2. Blizzard doesn't want unhappy players, there will be many people who want eight player max games, if that isn't possible, it can't be fixed. Since you could choose to create a four player max game, both sides would be happy.
3. (Based on opinion) Four players just seems too lonely for my tastes. The in-game chat would be dull, dueling wouldn't be the same if your facing only three people, (this considering the game is even filled), and if you have more than three friends or you are in a clan... you get the picture.
have you played a 4 man game through act1normal-end hell?
no?
next?
I'm saying that can happen with my idea. You can do it with just four, or you can do it with eight as well. If you don't have an option to play with eight, Not everybody wins.
He's talking about the option to select max players in any given game. The people who want 4 to be the max amount of players in their game can select 4. While the people who want 8 can select the full 8.
Long story short, he prefers the old system.
Anyway, we're still unclear how the pvp works, aren't we? Many people are speculating there will be a seperate function for pvp dedicated games, and if that's the case, I'm confident they will up the max amount of players for that purpose.
In the years and years of playing Diablo 2, I can probably count the number of times that I participated in an 8 player game that was actually questing together on one hand. Most of the time, there would be a guy rushing us whether we wanted it or not, other times there would be a couple of people who came in so they could cow with the exp/drop bonus of a full game, other times it would be someone raiding (killing Diablo and ending the game on nonexpansion for the unaware). And of the 8 player games where we did actually quest together, everyone would type out profanities at eachother with caps lock smashed in because someone was standing in their way in Maggot Lair.
The point being that I'm 100% supportive of the 4 player max decision. I'm confident that with a smaller amount of people, it will be a friendlier, more productive atmosphere. And hopefully it will cut back on that damned "lone wolf" mentality that was so rampant in Diablo 2.
He's saying that people who want more people in a game will win as well as people who want less since there would be an option for any number from 1 to 8.

Thank you for posting maturely. And yes the old system works for me, but can they possibly change it that much that we don't know what to expect?
The reason I see a 4 player maximum is the skill spamming on the screen and the possible computer hassle it will cause to some people. I also agree with Dungeonman about the friendlier atmosphere created by a smaller party. I personnally like being a lone wolf... there is something about kicking ass alone that can't be topped. Of course, being with a partner or multiple partners is something completely different and cool but hmmm it's that, a different experience. 8 for me is wayy too much but if Blizz employes see that 4 players is not enough, they will correct the situation by upping the limit. No worries, all will be cool on the release date :).
It is up to you to believe me or not, but i heard from the blizz guys that they wanted this game more team playable, i mean, blizzard want player to play togheter, they want more people helping people, they made the bosses tousands of time harder, not like andariel dying with a lvl 11 'sin kick.. you will have to make a group to defeat boss and btw to make more people playing togheter they splitted the earning. I mean, when you kill anything every one got his very own drop so there is no way a carry can get the good shit.
I think they will be or 8 or more player per game. I think 12 should be very interesting. maybe not a more complete number like 10 but interesting
You think so but developers have said several times that 4 players is what they felt the game was best at. If you look at the 12 minutes video of blizzcon 09 demo there are some parts with 4 players in it.. it really looks like thats the maximum when the game will still be satisfaction to play.
Add 4 more to there and it will be such a mess that it makes no sense to co op.
Benefits of less players / party:
1) Each individual have to work more, no more leechers since everyone must make their best to bring down the enemies.
2) More conversation and socializing. Easier to start conversation when the group is smaller and tighter.
3) Easier to coordinate gameplay
4) As said earlier, more friendly atmosphere
Anyways if the end game offers content for 2 parties at the same time, we could have 8 players limit but group limit should still be 4. So there would have to be 2 parties or 1 party + 4 loners soloing stuff. But this could lead into conflicts and area competition if there is not enough content in the end game.
i think the reason for reduced player max has to do with the atmosphere of the game... maby the game was too easy with 8 players in testing. either way its fun!

Wtf are you talking about in the first two?
Really? I think the point is pretty obvious. Doesn't look to complex...

Really? I looked it over and I still saw 4th grade English organization. Fag.
