BAN!!! lol just kidding. While 5$ a month isn't a lot of money, its still not needed for bnet. Wow costs to play because of weekly maitenance, live support ingame, constant patches, and new content for free.
Bnet should be free for just hosting servers to play on. If they wanted to charge a few bucks for a patch or something that included more content I wouldn't be against that, but to pay monthly is just not reasonable.
except sc2 and d3 will also have "weekly maitenance, live support ingame, constant patches, and new content for free."
not to the extent to wow, though it should...
and if it costs us 5 dollars (less than a sandwhich) to get patches as large as wow patches
No thank you, I do not want to pay for Battlenet 2.0 because if you want to play multiplayer you have to pay them for the privilege of playing. I would much rather they include LAN in the original game. I think if they did that it would benefit them more in the long run.

no, lan benefits no one
blizzard cares about competitive gaming and lan is not involved in that

They can't include true LAN in the original game because then half the customer base will simply pirate the game and play it over Hamachi..
Pseudo-LAN requiring at least a basic internet connection is a perfectly acceptable solution, though.
There won't be any monthly or annual fees for Battle.net - I would bet 50$ on this, if anyone wants to take me up on it!
As of right now, Blizzard's stance is still unchanged on this subject: The use of BattleNet 2.0 in general is still free, there are however microtransactions planned that cost money, but won't affect actual gameplay. In other words, anything bought over BNet2.0 will not give anyone an advantage. Instead of leveling services, items or the like, Blizzard plans to expand in more trivial categories such as additional maps (SCII).
The "news" in the first post isn't news at all actually, the quote originates from some time around the end of 2008, and didn't target the actual BattleNet, just certain parts of it.
additional maps are not trivial
the only reason wc3 is still alive is because of an additional map
The opening post says the quote was made October 2008. So if it were true, we would have found out about it much earlier. It's probably just some newb trying to worry people. What kinda of realiable source is a .pro website?

'pro (derived from professional) is a generic top-level domain in the Domain Name System of the Internet intended for use by qualified professionals.
The domain was originally launched in June 2004 with registrations restricted to lawyers, accountants, physicians and engineers in France, Canada, Germany, UK and the US.'
they are obviously professionals because they bought the domain!

You're being sarcastic with your last thought there, right?
This is such a folly. It isn't even funny if they make it hav a 5$ fee thats ridiculous they just don't need the money and its absolutely absurd we haven't payed for b.net, and we don't want to, but will if we have to cuz diablo and SC r just that freakin awsome=P

they have said that loosely quoted "anyone who purchases starcraft 2, will be able to use battle.net free of charge"
pretty straight forward.
now will they have micro transactions, special fees for bonus content and options? absolutely.
Manitoba's biggest Diablo fan!
lol they said in plain english that competitive gaming is important to them and will be a focus
