IGN: Considering that this is the big debut for the redesigned Battle.net, have you figured out anything you're planning on doing, with the exception of things like, obviously, easier ways of setting up co-op lobbies or creating panels so that everybody can immediately jump in and start up exactly where they left off?
Jay Wilson: Well, for us, Battle.net is?we're not quite at that stage. The full extent of our Battle.net development is that we do run through Battle.net. Pretty much everything that we reveal about Battle.net is going to be introduced in Diablo 3. I won't go through all of this because I don't want to take all your time, but the social networking aspects, the easy communication across games, and definitely?some of our big hooks are really good matchmaking, there was some poor matchmaking in Diablo 2, it was kind of esoteric and hard to use. We want a platform that puts you right next to someone else who's into the same thing as you, at the same level. We want you to be able to open up that friends list and say, oh, my friend Steve's killing Diablo, join! And you're right there next to them. We want players to be able to play together very, very easily. That's going to be a lot of work.
Okey, the lines:
"We want a platform that puts you right next to someone else who's into the same thing as you, at the same level. We want you to be able to open up that friends list and say, oh, my friend Steve's killing Diablo, join!"
I think Jay pretty much said and confirmed that "Yes, the main villain is Diablo even if the other two major demons is involved."
It could just be used as example. And even if it was just for example, I think it's safe to say that Diablo should and probably will be in Diablo. And to think otherwise is just rediculous.
Well, I know this isn't exactly hard evidence, but I'm pretty convinced Diablo will return in D3 - first of all, why would Blizzard make a Diablo title without him, and second if you watch the original cinematic trailer there's a demon at the end which in my mind can't be anyone else but Diablo. Sure, Blizzard has done a great work redesigning our old villain making him even more scary than in the previous titles, but you can still see it's him
Well, you're seeing things. I know which demon you're talking about, and he/she doesn't look anything like Diablo.
From a lore standpoint, Diablo and Mephisto are dead period. Their soulstones shattered at the hellforge. It's bye bye for those 2. Baal on the other hand, I don't think suffered the same fate.
You can have a Diablo game without actually having Diablo in it you know. What were they going to call it? "Diablo without Diablo 3" ? It's not just the name of a character, but of the franchise too.
From the sounds of it, this will focus on 2 lesser evils, Beliail and Azmodan.
You have some good points. However, from a lore perspective, I'm not sure shattering the soulstones of Diablo and Mephisto means the end of the two. If what we have been told about the soulstones so far is true (http://diablo.wikia.com/wiki/Soulstones), then there may be more to it than this. I mean breaking its earthly prison, wouldn't necessarily kill the demon - who knows, maybe Belial or some other demon have tricked us in D2, like the hero in D1 was (kinda) tricked into believing he could contain Diablo by sticking the soulstone in his forehead. Maybe the soulstones were prisons that contained the prime evils, weakening them, and maybe now that the stones have been destroyed the demons are in fact stronger than before and more capable of moving freely throughout Sanctuary. My point, is, if Blizzard wants Diablo back (and my personal opinion is they do), they'll have plenty of excuses lore-wise for bringing all three of them back.
Pretty sure the whole point of going to the hellforge and using the hammer to smash Mephisto's and Diablo's soulstones was to kill them off for good. Their essense, spirits, lifeforce (whatever you want to call it) was tied to the stones.
Why send the hero to smash the stones if all it would do is release their spirits back into hell? (keep in mind the hero in D2 just finished killing diablo in hell to begin with...)
I don't think the prime evils are coming back. The story has to progress at some point. Only so many times you can kill a bad guy and resurrect him before it becomes pure cheese.
Killing Diablo himself is not a prerequisite of playing Diablo. The core of the game is very much there from all the videos' we've seen. Killing some other bad guy doesn't change the fact the game will be great.
Only so many times you can kill a bad guy and resurrect him before it becomes pure cheese.
So far he has died twice, which means he was resurrected once. Meaning that number would be bumped up to 2 if he were in Diablo III.
I don't think that classifies as pure cheese just yet.
To a lot of lore junkies and people comfortable with the world of sanctuary, no, a Diablo game doesn't need Diablo. But, I think to the common audience, which will contain plenty of players new to the series thanks to the popularity of WoW, I think it would just seem stupid. And i don't think Blizzard is stupid.
My money is on Diablo being in D3.

What I've heard.. When they "died" they didn't go to hell (since the stones was destroyed).. They came to a place still unknown to us and just refered as "The Abyss".
Maybe the 3 heads we see is the 3 brothers fused in one?
Maybe isn't one of the other lesser demons that rule now?
Maybe... Just Maybe.. Diablo is in the Expansions?
And not to forget, the Diablo team have said that Tyrael is a BIG part of it all AND, so far we know that act 1 is Tristham and second somewhere else with a story about Belial or was it Azmodan (correct me if Im wrong!)
I don't know what to think. I guess thinking is overrated times like this. We just have to trust Blizzard, they know what they are doing.

if anything the soulstones were used to keep them from gaining there full brutal capabilities.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]I find your lack of faithdisturbing.
if diablo was not in the game "DIABLO" then i think the story would FAIL with a big fat "F"!!!!! Unless of course the story mentioned diablo and had some kind of diablo apprentice demon, relative, or off-spring to take his place.. then i'd give the story a "B+"!!!
i like the whole join games list on diablo 2 but i think if they added a friends list and you looked where ur friend was and by there name it would say like join game so you could click that and join the game he is in...that would be awesome!

I think he means that how he would have liked for it to be in Diablo 2.

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
I myself believe that Diablo has returned again.
There is no evidence that he has in fact returned, nor is there evidence that he will not.
In the first cinematic, no one knew what was featuring, until Diablo Roared! at that very moment EVERYONE knew it was Diablo. When you watch the vid, people are hollering its Diablo!!
Blizzard intended for everyone to see him, even if it was for a moment.
I would also have to agree on the fact, why would you continue the Trilogy of Diablo WITHOUT Diablo in it? That doesnt make sence.
If Blizzard wanted to make a game about some previous evils, they would most likely name it after them, or something similar.
Thats my opinion. Who knows...
We all must wait, and see...another long YEAR....until its release.
Weak....

Seeing as they have about another year of working on the game i just hope that if that insect thing is diablo that either they make him look more like the d2 diablo or that when youre fighting him he goes into some kind of mode at some point where he just gets bigger and more muscular.
