Hellfire is not now or has it ever been officially recognized as canon by Blizzard.
/feeling like a broken record trying to get this information through to people
You are absolutely correct. Though Hellfire was a Diablo I expansion, it was developed by Sierra and was not recognized by Blizzard as canon. I don't even think it added any lore to the game, just a new class, and the fact you can walk faster.

look closely the "cannons" are facing the city too, i doubt they need to shoot their own city lol xD
I know one person has commented on this, but what does everyone else think about the border lands environment shown with the towers? I don't think that just because the "cannons" point inwards towards town mean that they're not "cannons"
I dont see anything that resembles cannosn in that picture.. im confused...

If you want to arrange it
This world you can change it
If we could somehow make this
Christmas thing last
By helping a neighbor
Or even a stranger
And to know who needs help
You need only just ask
Well if I had to bet the "Cannons" Look more like Wind Turbines I mean its the desert and look at all the wind and sand in the Monk Videos what they are used for I dunno...
And Guns Ruined Fable 2 for me Guns better not show up:P
Edit OHHH the Wooden Beams... No even less of cannons...
I think they learned something from Failgate London.
"Oh, yeah, guns should be in Diablo 3. They were in Hellgate:London, and look how well that game turned out!"

It's 3am. rain. thunder, lightning. silence. silence. thunder. wind, howling wind. pricks of sound the rain makes. slowly. as it trickles down your roof. behold the solemn nature. behold the beauty of the storm.
I think they are wood "bars" to hold everything in place
Yeah, that's what I thought as well.
This isn't new artwork, by the way...this has been sitting under artwork as 'Caldeum Bandit City' for over a year. Every time I've seen that piece I just thought it was a tower with wooden support shafts / whatever.
Been gone over before in older threads. Those are supports on the walls, and yes guns are theoretically possible or hand cannons more possibly, but I don't think many fans want it, and it seemed neither did Blizzard.
I guess I should reiterate about the hand cannons.
Explosive potions already exist, so there is the combustible, and the idea for cannons was thought up by Lazaruk in D2.
And that is exactly why I am going to start collecting medieval weapons after I graduate college.
you too ive always wanted to collect medieval weapons, more skill required. But to make this post without it being complete spam yes those are probably not cannons if they where those shabby little huts they are sitting in with no support beams anymore will fall apart after a couple rounds are fired O.o

At any rate the 'canon's on the picture aren't canons. THey're wooden logs/poles used for structural support

I guess they could be log poles. One of them looks hollow though.

Bashiok has said there will be none in Diablo 3.
Why?
I think they learned something from Failgate London.
