I am definitely feeling the burn of the wait already. A whole year and a half plus. I have waited a year to get my driver's license back and that has been a hell of a wait on its own... God forbid what this is going to feel like. Most important thing, I gotta get busy. I need a job, but hey, don't we all?

Well, I can honestly say that I was hoping for a 2010 release. Waiting any longer than that seems agonizing. I understand that WoW does come first and I am also going to school and work full-time and will be done in Dec. 2010. The timing will work out better for me because finishing school will free up about 20hrs a week for me but the
wait...is...killing.....me.....

This is exactly what I am saying. I was 12 when Diablo 2 first came out, and now, im going to be at least 23 when Diablo 3 is released. I guess my Diablo days are done as well. I'll be applying to Law and Graduate schools (hoping for a joint degree) next summer, and there is no way I'm going to be able to play Diablo 3.
I dont know why some posters are taking the high road and being all about waiting another year and a half... call me an old fart, but i'll be out of grad school, teaching teenagers math, and likely taking care of 2 poop factories ("children" to the non-cynics). yaaaaaaay!
actually, that sounds like the PERFECT time for D3's release, I'll need my own does of escapism!
I dont believe that the Expansion to wow will be released....so early.
It was only JUST announced and for them to release it just this next year would be...silly to me.
I personally thought Wrath of the Lich king was a flop. It was greatly polished and perfected in some area's....but had other areas that were just...mediocre, not to mention how so many class's are broken.(Fucking Resto Druids)
If Blizzerd wants to FIX wow, I would hope to god they dont release this new expansion untill 2011 or later and polish it to perfection.

Haha yeah using diablo 3 as a means to escape from reality will be nice. Unfortunately, if some way I can play Diablo 3 in 2011-2012, I'll probably won't be able to play it as much. Its gonna be frustrating not being able to make a totally kick ass character like I used to make in Diablo 2.
Mike just said on the live stream that of the 2 games expected for 2010, SC2 and Cataclysm are the ones expected. That being said, we will not be seeing Diablo 3 in 2010 until further notice. 2011 it is then, lets just hope they can make it the best game possible!
YA but thats just an expectation..not a certainty!! plus the WOW expansion isnt really that big anyway..their just milking that game dry...i think it is getting really stale. i still believe in a 2010 release for D3.
I completely agree with you, Bloody-Nine. I honestly just want a quality game, not a game rushed to meet deadlines. It's one of the best qualities of Blizzard that I know of.

I think the blizzard team working on D3 is a bit slack, if they really wanted to they could get this game out the door in 2010, I'm not saying to rush the thing out but jesus christ blizzard has the resources to get this thing done quicker, hire more people whatever it takes, stop having these stupid blizzcons for christ sakes, blizzard only has a handful of games the sheer audacity of them to toot their own horn over a couple games... just showcase your damn titles at normal events like E3 etc.. if this game isn't coming out until 2011, they should have at least waited until now or early next year to announce it... I thought 2010 was a long time to wait after initially hearing about it in 2008, but now to hear 2011 and we're only half way through 2009, well I really think blizzard needs to pull their finger out and get this thing done!
Eh, I disagree with you, Grimson. I think that mentality was last used by Blizzard with Starcraft: Ghost, and has long-since been abandoned. They have the money and resources to get things done, yes, but they have the wisdom to get things done right. Having worked on software before, I can tell you from personal experience that testing, retesting, reretesting, re-re-re-(ad nauseum)testing is a pertinent part of the process. Trying something, testing it out, seeing if it works well, making sure that your department is working in tandem with the other departments. Hiring more people wouldn't help more than it will hinder the process.

Or, from what they're doing, they still have more monsters to create, more boss encounters to develop, another class to perfect (in addition to tweaking the current classes), integration into Bnet 2.0, features to integrate.
Yes, Blizzard is a business, but no, they're not out to grab every single cent from everyone in the world.

If there is enough work to be done, they could hire more people they get it done faster. Basic concept.
However if they have no work at a certain moment, there is no need for more. But I honestly think they have more then enough things on their to do list.
The problem is, in the programming world, you can't just hire 5,000 people to code several lines and that's it. Teams are small to keep things organized and structured. Keep in mind that a lot of creativity has to go into the game while it's being coded, which means a lot of bouncebacks to the art directors, a lot of storyboard rewrites, ect. ect.
But 2011 is way to far away for me. Sure I wont be old, just 20. But I don't think I have as much free time to play then I have now.:O
I'll be turning 27, so I guess patience is something you gain with experience.

wow was announced on sept 2 2001, and released november 23 2004. diablo 3 was announced june 28 2008, and is predicted to be out in 2011. so there is nothing slack or unprecedented going on there. granted they were in development prior to being announced, but still
i want it too, but im not getting bent out of shape over standard protocol
blizzcon is a great fan service, and blizzard itself must love seeing the reaction their products elicit from the people there. blizz wouldnt put the show on if legions of people didnt make it a bigger success every year. i would love to be there
and im sure if you talked to any developer and asked if they would rather have dozens of titles with low to moderate popularity, or a few and have loyalty and cash you dont know what to do with, im sure they would take the few. seems to work for nintendo too

Fuck you!!
I'm gonna be 26! 26!!!
Personally I'm prepared for 2012 though. They don't want to release the next blockbuster in less then a year after the release of SC2 AND WoW expansion. That would disturb the sales of said titles.
In short, 2011 is being optimistic. And that is me being realistic.
no your prolly right.. 2.600 employees dont need the money theyre doing it for dedication to a game title.

How many of you went to Blizzcon? Hmm? How many of you paid for the DirectTV package? Those are optional buys that are based on disposable income. Nobody's forcing you to buy anything from Blizzard. Think as a conscious consumer.
Now, that being said, I'm sure they have a rough deadline for when they want the new Diablo game released, but what sets Blizzard apart from EA, Take Two, Sony, Bethesda, and Microsoft Games is that they don't release a game until they are satisfied with it, release dates be damned. That's why Starcraft: Ghost became vaporware. They weren't satisfied where it was going (after having devoted a lot of financial and labor assets into the production of the game) and dropped the game. If they had any other mindset, we'd see a shitty version of the game out right now.

I really don't see how releasing D3 around or the same year as other titles are going to affect sales, I love the diablo franchise but I could care less about starcrap and world of warcrap they don't interest me in the least and I'm sure ALOT of other people feel the same way.
People are worrying about their age? 20? Come on...I highly doubt you'll be married with some crazy job that occupies all your time. And college too, it won't occupy THAT much of your time. Lots of us have been there. I thought the same too when I was in college and raiding so much on WoW 5 days a week (still wish I had never done so much raiding). Just relax and wait till 2011, you'll be glad and you'll be having tons of fun with the rest of us.

The developers at Blizzard may not be corrupt but Blizzard is certainly run and owned by a corporation that is no different from EA or any of those companies you listed. The developers don't have ultimate control over the release of the game. I'm sure as GAMERS, the Blizzard devs would love to see Diablo 3 out before Cataclysm, but it's the higher-ups that are calling the shots, and they need to keep WoW marketable since it has been the most economically successful franchise for the company. Even though the games all have separate teams, there are developers that work in between the teams, and resources that are divided differently. I'm sure once SC2 and Cataclysm are out, any leftover work on D3 will wrap up quickly because they can push all their resources into it. I certainly don't think it's the actual developers that couldn't release a completely polished game by holidays 2010, but the higher-ups didn't provide them the resources or the deadline for it.
