Mike just said on the live stream that of the 2 games expected for 2010, SC2 and Cataclysm are the ones expected. That being said, we will not be seeing Diablo 3 in 2010 until further notice. 2011 it is then, lets just hope they can make it the best game possible!
I don't believe it, they just announced the 4th of 5 classes, I suspect were in a for a good surprise. I don't think 2011 is going to be the date. Many people will no doubt disagree but my gut says no way, I think it's all a ruse, D3 is the most anticipated game to come along in years and Blizzard knows it.
It's very dangerous from a business standpoint for Blizzard to continue the practice of delaying games or creating these long waits between releases. I was just speaking with a buddy of mine today who was a big Diablo fan back in the day about the newly announced Monk class, and his reaction was basically "the game's not coming out, so who the hell cares?" At first, I was a bit taken aback, but he's right.
Waiting this long (let alone another 2 or 3 years) since the game was first announced last year is just ridiculous. The game should have come out within six months of that announcement, same goes for Starcraft 2. If Blizzard's not careful, they will miss the hype train, and the game could fail, not because it's bad, but because people just lose interest after a while. This phenomenon is a lot more common than people think. Remember the movie "Snakes on a Plane"? They had a brilliant marketing strategy and created tons of hype online, but because the movie was pushed back, by the time it came out no one gave a damn about it. The same thing could happen to Blizzad if they're not careful. All it would take is one slip-up of WoW (perhaps a worldwide version of what happened in China recently), and they'd be finished. Tons of game companies thought invincible have fallen recently, so it could very well happen.
Don't get wrong, I want Diablo 3 to be a finished game with few bugs, but does it need to be perfectly polished and balanced on release? No. I think Blizzard has management problems in that something is preventing them from allocating the proper resources where they're most needed. Just put the game out there with all the story elements and features in place, and worry about number crunching, class balancing, graphical enhancements, etc, for the patches.
Just remember folks, this is Blizzard . So if they announce a release date lets say August 2011 for example, you can be well assured it won't be out until at least 6 months to a year late.

Yep, 2011 IF we are lucky.
i am guessing Christmas 2012
We can blame WoW for the 2011 release of diablo, they should rename WoW to "CASH COW" People probably wouldnt even notice. Mmmm...whats their subscriber base 1mil+?? at whatever it is a month?? 10$ = CASH COW. love how their is a huge developing team and how they push an expansion every other year. From a business perspective i completely agree with this model, but as a gamer it really freakin blows hard, mainly because im not a WoW fan.
Sorry if someone already posted something similar, didnt feel like reading 7 pages of the thread.
Actually they should rename WoW to just "Mooooooo"
the world was supposed to end when it the year 1999came, it was suppose to end when 2000 came, it was suppose to end when 2001 came.
i have enough disappointments waiting for the world to end so i don;t care about 2012
I'm happy and sad that we may have to wait till 2011 to play the game. Happy in the aspect that it will give me more time to save up my money to buy a laptop that can play it extremely well. Sad that I have to wait longer for one of the greatest games of my life.

Thats another thing I have had in mind. Just because it isn't coming in 2010 as we had thought doesn't mean it cannot come eary in 2011. I for some reason don't see this game needing a whole extra 2 years, but then again what do I know? Maybe a year and a half? I would like to think I will be able to play Diablo 3 before I turn 21, but it looks more and more like I'm going to get there first...
I just hope Blizzcon isn't the end of the information. Last year a lot of info came out here and there after Blizzcon. About 3 months before it they stop giving us stuff, but still, I wanna see some stuff between now and Blizzcon 2010. I hope for some Blizzcasts (that actually say some Diablo shit) and some official page updates.

There are no stupid questions, just a bunch of inquisitive idiots.
Here comes the optimist. I'm still believing in the '09 release for a couple of reasons. The first being the rate at which technology changes. If blizz waits 2 years to release the game they are going to have to update their engine if not reconstruct the entire thing. The same can be said for you guys picking out set ups already, btw I've got a projector warmed up for this game Overhauling an engine is costly and takes a lot of time. Personally i think the game looks great and may be closer to release than anyone could imagine. Another reason is the hype issue that has already been discussed. This project doesnt have an unlimited pool of resources to draw from and is going to need revenue to keep going. Now this could mean a shuffle of the deck so to speak. Cataclysm could be put on the back burner, since it hasn't been introduced yet, SC2 has already been moved back, and WoW isnt showing any huge signs of an expansion, thus moving diablo to the foreground. The reason being producing this many games is costly no matter how you slice it and blizzard really doesnt have many revenue streams. You may say but Stoffy, they have WoW to supply them with tons of money in the form of monthly subscriptions, you would be correct but that money also goes to upkeep for WoW as well as advertising, the Black Prince isnt cheap. So between these two factors I'm thinking Diablo will be out sooner rather than later. Obviously this is all speculation and theory so feel free to rip it to shreds like a Barbarian whirlwind through Fallen.

You do realize that they just announced the new WoW expansion, Cataclysm, yesterday right? Mike Morhein (butchered that probably) said himself that they are shooting to release it as the second previously mentioned game to come out in 2010. Jay Wilson simply says D3 will be out when its ready, and they seem far from it. Though their ranged class has some skills and a placeholder animation, they haven't even decided for sure that the idea they are using is going to be the one. They still don't really know on it.
That being said, they gotta get that straight, finish the content (which might take em a little), bring all the items and such, create the difficulties, and balance the game hard. I almost don't think it should take 2 more years, but if you add a beta on top of that, it does make sense.

Just realised I joined here back in May of 2007. That will be about 4 years since then to the release of D3. An unbelievable wait. Of course I've been waiting even longer than that already. I guess SC fans also have a lot to complain about too.
I'm struggling to find a positive out of all this.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
im a sc fan and a diablofan....what can i say?
Whatever. I guess I'll just work towards that nicer computer, and later buy Starcraft 2 and get creamed by pros.
For the optimist above thinking it will come out in 2009... No offense, but have you read anything at all? The Battlenet is not finished, and Starcraft 2 is supposed to be released before Diablo 3, because that was the order of their game. If they were to mess that up, they would have many, many, unhappy fans.
I guess this means I'll keep playing TF2 until SC II is released. I played Brood War competitively for 2 years, so I assume I'll play SC II competitively as well.

World of Warcraft: Mystics - Level 60 Undead Mage
Warhammer Online: Mystics - R40/RR41 Goblin Shaman
Cataclysm is kind of needed for WoW. This is due to after 2 expansions, people are still having to level 1 - 58~60 in the boring old vanilla zones, and they want change. Some people feel less compelled to create new characters for such reasons, and they need to revamp some things to keep the crowd happy and interested. WoW is their major income right now, and if that goes down, then you won't see D3 ever. So next time you people complain about WoW getting all the attention, realize that.
Diablo 3 will pay for itself, but it won't continue to bring revenue. The only income after the game purchase would come in the forms of:
1. Expansions - And Blizzard has never been a speedy one to develop things like that.
2. Online Services - So things like character changes and possible Hardcore revives, I don't think they'll get a lot of services for this.
That's all the revenue they'll milk from D3. I suspect more people will buy SC2 than D3, due to the whole WCG attention and competitions (SK), so that is probably being prioritized as well.
Blizzard is being extra greedy at the moment in that they are developing 4 games at once (SC2, D3, WoW Exp, and a MMO). As you guys know, Blizzard has never been a company known to have a lot of IP's, or even have a lot of games developed at a short time. I think they are feeling safe with the incomes of WoW right now, and are trying to expand that. This feels like a risky move, especially with the whole MMO based on an entirely new IP. That's usually fail unless the MMO is based off a source of lore (i.e., AOC, WAR). Not a lot of MMO's have pulled this off. One example of a relatively successful one is GW (on a related note, GW2 trailer and release :D).
And you never know, Blizzard probably has MORE games going in the background they aren't telling us :O! I am going to suspect the MMO is supposed to pick up after WoW, since the game won't last forever (graphics issues, and most MMO's don't survive past 8~ years).
I know I am going to get flamed for this, but I honestly think they should have thought about a possibility of a Diablo MMO, or even a SC MMO. It has enough lore and fanbase that it could be pulled off. It's a lot safer than their MMO based on an entirely new IP.
it definitely makes sense, and shouldn't surprise anyone. weve heard talk in the past of one wow xpac a year. and 2 frontline titles a year. so to me 2011, diablo 3, and the zerg campaign will be launched. 2012 probably another wow xpac and the protoss. and if im lame enough to guess that far ahead 2013 would probably see the debut of this new IP or the other mystery title they are working on.
but no matter what, as a fan of bizzard there is a lot to keep myself occupied with over the next few years
i hate them for making me wait, but i love them for always delivering a top notch product!
