Diablo is superior to StarCraft? An unbalanced simplistic hack&slash is superior to the perfectly balanced and relatively intellectual RTS? Well, it depends on how you measure such things, I guess...
I can find many flaws in Starcraft so if you can please leave your unbalanced simplistic comments somewhere else please?
Thank you.
Diablo 1-2 are perfectly made with the combination of an epic storlyline, pleanty of secrets and items, almost perfect gameplay, and a perfect online system. Starcraft is good, but Diablo is not a "simplistic hack&slash".

I'm sure your ignorance and praising towards Diablo 2 is much better, right?
Both games are old and both games are covered in flaws.
And SC does have a good balance, which is insanely rare in any game whatsoever, and Diablo is -not- balanced at all. Also, epic storyline? Sorry, but what storyline? The presentation of the storyline in the game is probably among the least memorable for one people to just play through. Its simple, boring and lacking. Not saying the lore suck: but what little the game gives fails to be epic.

Honestly, if you don't like Diablo, then why did you even join?
But to answer your storly line comment... Really, Diablo 1-2 have one of the most memerable storylines a game has to offer. Talk about a guy who goes through a dark and twisting journey to kill Diablo only for it to backfire. And then him going on a journey of turning into the monster that he once risked his life and soul to contain. Then having to destroy the one thing that keeps our world from falling into chaos getting destroyed. Epic? Yes. Memorable? Yes. Are you a dumb ass? Yes.

I would have to agree, Diablo(1) had one of the most memorable gaming experiences that I've experienced.
And I would have to disagree that Starcraft has many flaws(I'm talking about competitive play, fuck the campaign).

Oh wow, I'm sorry, I'm a dumbass for not even saying I disliked the story.
I don't blame the story. I like Diablo's story. The presentation in the game is the least epic you could have. I don't remember ever living anything Epic while playing Diablo, because there is nothing pushing the story around you and your character.
I'm sorry if you are blind to this, but I don't see how you can think the story was presented in any epic way. I've never seen anyone that just played the game first time and said "geeze, what an epic story"... most people that are not fans/only played the game as it is don't remember the story and don't care. There just is little for them to do so.
People remember the gameplay really well though, my friends and gamers will praise how much fun they had. But story? What story? Talk about SC though, and many more casual people care about the story. Want to guess why?
Also, I hate the game? Why, because I can see the flaws in the game? I like the game a lot.

Um... What are you smoking? Try playing the game instead of reading about it in wikipedia and judging it off that.
Diablo 1: You start off as a random person entering a village and you don't know anything about anything. You enter the dungeons and you start to read and talk to people abd discover how layered and twisted things are going on there. You get deeper and deeper into the storyline as you read about the Prime Evils and you learn how Lazarus turned bad from the powers of Diablo. Then you enter DIablo's lair only to defeat for less than a minutes, as you try to contain the demon in yourself.
Diablo 2: Again, you start off as nothing as you enter act 1 trying to chase after the shadow of the warrior who defeated the Lord of Terror earlier. You quest across the globe as you try and fight off the Prime Evils. Starting with Andariel, you see how horrible these evils are. Then you go to Tal Rasha, a selfless soul who did the same thing that the Wanderer did to Baal, except he sealed himself off. You learn how Diablo saved his brother from imprisonment and you chase then into Kurast, where you defeat the first Prime Evil. Then you go into hell itself to destroy Diablo himself in an epic battle. Of course, you go to act 5 and then you defeat Baal yet you failed yet again so stop the permanantly. Baal has corrupted the worldstone and now Tyreal must destroy the object that has kept the Sanctuary safe.
Is that not epic?

Story? LOL! There are soooo many RTS's that are identical to Starcraft and less games like Diablo so really, people would casually pay attention to Diablo's story more since it's more unique than a game like Starcraft, where you just do the exact same tihng over and over.

Have you played through the story death? even if you play it with cheats activated so you can listen to the way blizzard tells the tale of Starcraft is amazing if you actually play through the single player and listen to all the mission briefings and debriefings.
On a side note, please stay civil or the thread will be closed. Thanks!
The diablo story is beyond Epic. If you read the books as well you get into this story about Diablo that is just beyond epic. Words cannot describe it. The books tell you how vile these demons really are and how destructive angels can be and the mysterys of the world. The story isent epic its beyond epic in words you cannot describe.

Well, it can be argued that the Starcraft novels do the exact same thing. I have read through both the Diablo series of books and the Starcraft ones and I enjoyed the Starcraft ones a lot more.
Well, I think it might also be partially what branch of sf (the umbrella term) you enjoy more- fantasy or sci-fi. I actually like fantasy a lot more, but even so, I don't think there is much that is very compelling about the storyline strictly as it is portrayed in the games (I haven't read the books). I really rather enjoy character-dependent stories, and Diablo II obviously isn't character-driven, it's just a generic and basic event-driven story (which can be done well, but I would say Diablo's is more or less moderate- most of it involves cookie-cutter ideas that have been done before by many, especially in the dark fantasy world).
(No, I'm not talking about your characters you play, I'm talking about characters in the story as you go- Marius, Tyrael, and so on.)
I also played SC and, while I remember enjoying the campaign, I honestly can't really recall the storyline, although I'm fairly certain I wasn't particularly disliking of it.
So, I really only love Diablo for just the mindless click-and-kill spree, jamming points all over the place, and collecting amazing gear. That probably sounds childish, but I wouldn't argue it isn't. It is my understanding that everyone has a bit of a kid still left in them no matter what, so I indulge it when I have the spare time and will.
Now, as for why SCII is supposed to be out before Diablo III- again, it was announced a year earlier and most likely was in development before that, so it only makes sense it's out first. It's also very, very popular in other countries (not to say it isn't liked here, but even more so elsewhere).
As for ever comparing these two games to say one is better than the other, well, my usual stance is that neither is better than the other because they're two different sub genres of story-telling and two different genres of games. It would be like trying to compare an egg with a pterodactyl, and as such they strive to accomplish completely different things in entertainment.
Now, if we were to compare how well each of these two games achieved that ends, I would say it's wholly dependent on the analyzer and would be different for everyone so no ultimatum could be reached.
Have you played through the story death? even if you play it with cheats activated so you can listen to the way blizzard tells the tale of Starcraft is amazing if you actually play through the single player and listen to all the mission briefings and debriefings.
I tihnk you missed my point. What he said was that people pay attention to SC storylines more casually. I said that actually it's the other way around since SC is just another really good RTS while Diablo is truely unique, so people will pay attention to Diablo's storyline more.

I was trying to avoid the argument, because I love both games, but Diablo is just click, click, and click(The same thing over and over, right)? At a competitive level, I've rarely played or used the same build over and over in Starcraft(Unless it's the standard ZvP, where the Protoss fast expos, and I 3 hatch spire into 5 hatch Hydra/Lurk).

DII's presentation of story is pretty bad... I personally don't find neither DII's nor SC's storyline all that amazing because I read real literature, but it is sometimes interesting to get lost in a game. With that in mind, SC does the job much better. Briefings were usually short and easy to keep track of, and steady along the game, instead of DII where they dump loads and loads of text on you when you start an ACT + cinematics.

I'm sorry that you expected some 1820's epic storyline who's inspiriations were the Illiad and the Odyssey.
Yet still, Diablo 2 had one of the most twisting and in depth plots a game could offer.
And who the hell pays attention to briefing anyway? I just want to play the damn game.
Well, staying on topic, StarCraft 2 was announced before than Diablo 3; and btw, it's good to have the two games released at different times. Because if you like both games the same and both of them get out at the same date, you wouldn't know which one to play first :).

still Starcraft had a better story mainly because their characters actually have names and are represented a little better
whereas Diablo is about as cannon as wow with the character developement lol
still the npcs have stories but the main characters only have like half stories lol
considering both games gameplay is pretty much the best, or in the top 3, for both genres
id consider them tied lol
controls id have to heavily give that to diablo since SC hasnt been updated to have handy features like idle workers or anything like that yet
but ya diablo 2 is probaly a better game only because the SC series never made a game = to diablo 2 on a time scale
meaning diablo 2 is already is a semi new game for the diablo series
but SC is just downright ancient
considering the technology of starcraft is far far less than diablo but more ppl still play Starcraft than diablo
id have to say SC2 is more anticipated than diablo 3
so at that they are probaly gonna make the most anticipated game first, not counting the fact that SC2 was being made longer than D3
but even saying that, that doesnt mean SC2 will get better ratings than Diablo 3 anyhow lol
however Diablo 3 will be the first 3D diablo as well lol
so there is probaly a lot more bugs to iron out than in the 2D nearly Flash prequels lol
especially if they make little mistakes like the WoW team did when they left in old ironforge and that alpha area on top of ironforge lol
Be my Buddy =^.^=
