Personally I've always found Diablo 2 to have more replay value than any other game I've tried. I think I've spent more time on D2 than anything else. Having 5 or 7 classes each with 3 skill trees and a variety of skills that you can focus on adds a lot of replay right there. Randomized maps keep it fairly interesting as well. Probably the biggest thing is the random loot with seemingly endless equipment to get.
I've been playing D2 off and on since it came out and end up getting back into it on a regular basis. I don't think the Diablo series needs things like unlockables to keep people replaying, just needs to keep 5+ classes, randomized maps and a really wide variety of equipment.
Yeah Im still playing it... Well My computer broke so but I was playing it when it Pooped out:)
Great Game My only problem was the age of the game and Rushing now it will change but Maybe Unlockables dont belong
But if you think about it Having to Level up to wear equipment is unlocking something so unlockables have been in diablo sense the begining;)
lol. sorry. Just sayin. Replayability is a HUGE issue and not easily fixed. Imagine if there was something unlockable in D2 for your friends. They would have quit after they got it lol.
Really, one of the best examples is wow. It is the very definition of replayability. Why? You can never beat it! There is no replayability if you can't finish playing it the first time!
So it raises the possibility of something like professions and other things that offer the user the ability not only focus on the story or building their characters pvp capabilities but maybe something else that can maybe make the characgter unique and distinquished from the rest.
One good way wow does this is with the concept of pets. They became very popular as everyone saught out the super rare ones to make their character seem a bit cooler.
I'm not a wow fanboy but I played the game up to 2 lvl 80's so I know the ropes and I can see what keeps people shelling out that 15 dollars a month so they can keep playing.
Italofoca, thats replayability to a certain extent. But after so long it is no longer fresh. That is short term replayability. Maybe keeping it fresh for a year. But what about 5 to 10 years? The games that last that long have REAL replayability.
The reason of wow's replaybility is because new content is added to game every 6 mounths. Theres patchss that added more content to WoW then Lord of Destruction added to D2. So the only way D3 will have half the "replaybility" of wow is if they launch one expansion every 2 years or something like that for all eternity.
Stop patching wow and launching expansions for 2 years the game dies.
D3 will not have a mmorpg longevity, thats a fact. What they can do is add content that makes people after finishing the game, come back to play it again. And the more content, the best.

I think your wrong on both points. Sorry.
wow has replayability without added content. The pvp is enough to give it TONS of replayability. And name any other facet of the game and I'm sure it can be considered content for replayability.
The game would not die by any means. It may use a percentage of it's fanbase but it would certainly not die. Especially not in two years, thats not a great time estimate.
On to the wrongness of your second point
I think D3 will definitely have mmorpg longevity. Heck D2 has it! D2 has tons of replayability, not saying its GREAT replayability, but replayability none the less. D2 is still being played is it not? It doesn't seem too dead to me.
So, with more improved aspects that replayability D3 will have more than MMO longevity. MMO does not=longevity. Any game can have it if done correctly.

If a game dies when everyone stop playing it all the games in the world are immortal because theres allways someone playing that. I was playing Warcraft 2 on bnet yesterday, but noone can say WC2 is not a dead game.
The prove that WoW's longevity are caused by the patchs is the own existence of the mid season patchs. They are free to the players but *very* expansive to the producers, so why do you think they exist ? Becuase they are absolutly needed to maintain the 6 millions mounth fees.
Now, tne PvP. The only way a PvP can maintain a game "alive" (in the sense of it maintain the popularity of it release date, like wow) is a very competitive one.
And i don't kno the amount of players in the actual D2 bnet, but i think its less then one million. And to blizzard standarts less then 1 million players in a rpg = fail. Thats why 1.13 are taking forever to come out.
Of course, D1 and D2 are both alive for me and you, and most ppl on this community. But it's a pretty dead game in the general gaming community.

Do you know how many people bought D2 when D3 was announced? It was record breaking.
If D2 was dead it would not still be on the shelfs everywhere selling for as much as it does. If it was dead, it would be a good 9.99. It's not 9.99 btw.

unlockables would be sweet, but something as simple as a different hairstyle or clothing color would be awsome... and make them redicously hard to get, then when you see somone walk in with all that crap on you know they are GOD.

DIABLO = DEVIL its not supposed to be a nice game autostats are rediclous lack of pots is not welcome if it aint broke dont fix it! (diablo2)
The problem with unlockable characters in the Diablo Universe is the lore/storyline of the game. It has been something that made the diablo series soo great and if you unlockable characters that you do not have access too in the beginning or the knowledge of their presence, it would throw everything around. That is just my opinion though

I dont kno, can you tell me please ? I'm not conviced it was a record breaking, it only reach the top 10 most selled PC game for a very few days wich is no big deal at all.
And where i leave D2 and LoD cost execly 9,99 $.
personally i think that if u want to keep a game fresh you allow players to mod the game.
though i dont know how far that would go in a game like diablo. All that put aside if your a true fan of diablo i dont think the game ever stops being fresh.

The one who makes it doesn't make it for himself. The one who buys it doesn't buy it for himself. The one who needs it doesn't know it when he needs it.
HELLO MCFLY!!! Each time you make a new character you get diffrent quests....Tell me that cant keep you in the game. Each gossip is diffrent for every character and character GENDER!!!! That keeps the lore people into it for a long time. The people will treat a female barb diffrently than the male barb (Because the male barb is more well known and is familure to such people like cain while cain would not know the female barb at all) Idk man but that right there is enough to keep me playin for all eternity if I could live that long.
