We all know that armors look different on every class in Diablo. An armour can have skulls on the Necromancer, and spikes on the Barbarian. And we already know that this will be the same in Diablo 3. And also the Witch Doctor will have this, every piece of equipment will have a "tribal" look on the Witch Doctor.
But what about shields?, it would be pretty lame if you're running around with a Witch Doctor in tribal armour when he is carrying a kite shield or tower shield.
If you take a look at this piece of artwork you will see the Witch Doctor is carrying some kind of tribal shield on his right side. Does this mean shields will also look different on every class?
Maybe it's a class-specific shield similar to the paladin's from Diablo II.
Anyway, even though i like how armor changes depending on what class is wearing it, I would be upset if the same were true with shields. Then would you do weapons, too? Where would it stop?

If a player wants to be a witch doctor with a kite shield, he should have that option. And a barb should have the option of running around with a WD shield...

But shouldn't a witch-doctor be allowed to wear barbarian armor then as well?
If I was to venture a guess, I'm thinking it could go both ways here. We could get kite shields that look the same on all characters, but perhaps only with bonuses that really suit the barbarian. Therefore you will mostly see barbarians. Or maybe kite shields won't be wearable by witch doctors?
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

i think weapons would be fairly generic across all classes... a sword isn't going to look to different depending on the reigon you'll come from (cutlass vs. bastard swrod they look a little different but it's still pointy metal on a hilt)
A weapon or piece of armor is not about where YOU come from, its about where you got it. In a desert act, you would see more scimitars, in the forest you might see a sabre instead.
As far as shields being different for each class, I honestly think it would flow a little better that way. Sure the early generic shields would probably more look the same, but come end game a tribal WD would have a tribal look all around, instead of having all tribal armor and some big goofy looking shield.
Perhaps instead of limiting you to what you can and cannot use, they could make it so more shields with WD stats had a more tribal look to it? In the end what armor you wear will eventually reflect the stats on the gear you find anyway, why not make a WD based unique shield tribal and a barb based unique shield big and brutal with spikes? That way if you want to look like a tard running around on a WD with a big brutal spike shield that does nothing for you, you can, and I can stick to what really works for my character XD.

There are no stupid questions, just a bunch of inquisitive idiots.

In D2 we had the same problem - Paladins with humam skeleton shields and druids with kite shields. For some reason it was not that ugly imo. Same happens for Helms.
Actually, it allows you to custumise your character look a bit without taking out his own basic look. But we all ended using green caps O.o'
In other words, I don't care if my doc will hang around with a kite shield :-D But sure, a tribal looking unic for the witch doctor will be nice.
We can't manually place stat points anymore. That means it's impossible to have a wizard running around in full plate, because you can't force points into strength in order to equip it.
So we are likely to see class-specific shields with requirements that allow a witch doctor to wield it. And heavier shields with requirements beyond the scope of the witch doctor.
Whether or not a barb can wield a low-requirement witch doctor shield is yet to be seen.
Well, I think there will be maybe (just for the heck of it, a random number) 20 different looks of shields, and armors.
Maybe 10 of them, are class specific (2 different looks for each class). So if you had a wizard, and you used a wizard specific shield, or armor, then it will be fitted for her "look"; and so on for the other classes..
The other 10 shield, and armor "looks" will be fitted to look good on each of the characters.
But, I would like to be able to find a Wizard specific looking armor, which isn't wizard specific. This is exactly like in d2.. I guess.
I don't know if I'm saying anything that wasn't said already, but if they can, they should have maybe a witchdoctor shield that can be used by a barbarian.
I would like to keep it like this, because maybe this shield has special attributes to a witchdoctor, but it has some attributes that a witchdoctor uses, that can be given to a barbarian..
I'm speaking jiberish, Nvm..

"Not Even Death Can Save You From Me" ~ Diablo (II)
Whatever the adaptation of the item I just hope they keep the "THAT GUY IS FUCKING EPIC" factor involved so you really show off the work you put in.
I hope they don't equate "epic lewts" to "bigger and glowey" as they did with WOW.
This engine seemed like it could handle alot of detail and I hope they take advantage of it without being lazy and scaling items to be big with a glow (saw some evidence of that with the big firey mace in the gameplay trailer that was obviously a really good weapon).

I think to some degree some things need to be class specific. For example the WD will not be strong enough to move about and fight wearing heavy armor and if you choose to use that the defense should be lowered because of you lack of strength. Same should be for weapons. If you are not as strong and have the dexterty to weild two handed weapons as a barbarian then why should you get the same statistics. Some things are just better suited for certian characters. When a WD has half the strength and dexterty of the Barbarian why should he get the same statistics from the item. He would not be able to move as quickly for defense and offense

Well, yeah, if you're not strong or dextrous enough to sue armor or weapon, you shouldn't be able to. But those things should be determined by how the player distributes their points, not the class they chose.

too bad we can't decide how to distribute out stat points..(question mark??)

i don't think the witch doctor is holding a shield in that pic. it is a giant beetle attacking his right arm!
P.S. i think that the diversity of the armor/shields/weapons will be so great in D3, that each class will have its own multitude of choices. to have a scrawny little witch doctor carry a giant barb shield is just dumb...
since we know that stat points are going to be auto allocated i wouldn't be to shocked if the stat requirements for loot was removed and catagories were created robes, leather/tribal, scale/chain, and plate armor same with weapons, swords, axes, staffs, bows ect.
now take those classifications and give each class limmitations... i.e. wizards can't go beyond robes but the barb can use any armor. The WD can use staffs, clubs and axes while the wizard can use staffs wands orbs and swords.
take these limmitations and put level requirements insted of stat requirements on the loot and vola new gear system.
Class armor requirements worked fairly well in WoW. Certain classes ended up needing/using different types of armor but since D3 has individual loot drop, that doesn't matter in this game.

I'm the monsta - The boogieman
So mothers be warned - But you give them up gladly
why wouldn't it matter? is every item that drops in d2 an upgrade or even something your character can use (i.e. low stats)? did bashiok state that they were putting in "non-optimal" loot? something you cant use seems pretty non-optimal to me.
regardless with auto-statting i can't really see another method for gear requirements aside from maybe glasses useing gear that they shouldn't (wiz in plate with a 2h axe) get some serious minuses.
