After playing 4 person games in d2, I can tell you 4 ppl is BORING.
I would personally hope that the max would be raised to 10-12, but thats just me. It seems like with a greater resolution rendering engine (as opposed to fixed resolution sprites a la D2), fitting more on the screen is an easily achievable task. Additionally, the more versatile nature of 3D should allow for more expansive battlegrounds, thus eliminating much of the clutter associated with a 2D frame based game.
Edit: As a side note, I was always surprised that they never instituted attributes that were dependent on party size in D2... eg. + x to skill (a) (x = number of players in party).
They could in fact have like + x to life/Dex/mana/all stats per party member. Sort of like set gear, but dependent on party size.
Otherwise, gear that gives Attr only on presence of a specific class or item on another char. to promote team play.
Anyway...
Rushing merits - thats a whole diff. can of worms. Suffice it to say that as long as its the same style, it will have a rush characteristic. Any game that has a shelf-life of 8+ years has to. NO ONE wants to spend 2 weeks making a level 60 character. Especially after playing all these years, the quick access to new builds is what keeps it going.
In channel time meant sitting on bnet screen, talking to people. Not in game, doing something.
If you can only have 3 other ppl in a game, if you want to meet up with 5-7 ppl, you have to do it in a channel. This means you cannot make a trans game for a bunch of friends, but have to talk to them in the channel.
I am against rushing and I expect Blizzard to find another way to rush than having high levels kill hard enemies for you.
Didn't they say that they are keeping rushing in the game? I'm almost positive, but it's going to be a controlled form of it.
I want 8 people, I've always been a person of the more the merrier. It's not like you can't control the player population in a game you create. So for people who want a small number..
Should be 8. They say with 4 it is chaotic enough, but having played with 4 people I can say that it wasn't really chaotic. Maybe at higher levels when they actually give us real skills beside bash it can get a little hectic but still 4 is just to little. Now you have to choose who you are playing with, what this will do in the end really is mess up the interaction with people. People tend to have atleast 2-4 friends that they are gonna play with, that fills a game right there, thus they meet noone new...so it may as well be a private game...which Blizzard doesn't want....so they shoot themselves in the foot on this one.
I agree. If you want less people in the game, I'm sure there will be an option for it. There really isn't a reason that they should make everyone play at four, especially if your connection and computer make it run perfectly fine.
It is not so much about what you want, it is what is best for leveling or progressing. A full game in D2 is for example better than going solo for pretty much anything but MFing. The most enjoyable player count should also be the count that gives the best leveling benefits. Otherwise people might play in 8 player games because they want to level fast even if they would enjoy it more on a lower player count. Because i don't think they are capable of balancing it so that any count is equally effective.
Agree.
Imo they could extend the cap to something like 5 or 6 though.
Due to stackage of party buffs, possible combo and the veyr fact that they aim for a coop game, the bigger the amount of party menbers the better. However i think the game should be difficult enough to a point that teamplay matters and a noob party friend will be a burden.
So you will think twice before playing in a full party.
I seen all the gameplay videos and to me it looks a little too easy for the four players onscreen don't you think? I love soloing cause I tend to get more involved in the game, and I love playing with other people too cuz its really fun, but if there are groups of 4 or even 8 I think the difficulty level should multiply in some way: eg 1/2 as hard again to how many extra players there are. Cause don't you think having 4 - 8 players would be extremely easy and kind of boring for most of the adventuring? If they make it 8, then I think there will be 3 more characters in the expansions 5 + 3 possibly

"So you have come here for information? I have some for you..."
Wouldn't it be illogical for blizzard to set the player limit to 4 when it has 5 classes?

I think 8 is just fine. It allows you to experience the game with more people. When midnight hits, everyone is going to rush home with their copy and want to play with all of their buddies (or as many as possible) the first time through it. I'm sure a few years down the road 4 players would suffice, but until then I feel I would get much more satisfaction fighting these baddies with more of my friends. It would allow for more "HOLY SHIT DID YOU JUST SEE THAT" moments.

Less people = naturally less socializing, smaller dual games, smaller trading games, smaller rushes, more time talking to many people in channels.
These reasons are not dependent on skill arrangements and screen real-estate.
In fact, i noted specifically why I think that D3 would uniquely support more players comfortably than D2.

You might find that more interesting, but not the barbarian who just got excluded because you deemed him the weakest class.
Should people really get excluded for wanting to play a class they like?
cuz 4 isnt enough and 8 is a little too much

Party size could be capped to 4 players, but otherwise 8 or 12 for the game. Then we would have 2 or 3 different parties.
