It is unclear on what we have to comment about.
They are distinctly different in some areas.
Artistically, even the newer interface has room to further improve.
But I undoubtedly prefer the mechanics and the basic lines of the new D3 User Interface compared to the first Diablo 3 UI. Especially in regards to the removing of the paperdoll, the separation of inventory items on different tabs and the introduction of a different Fury animation system.

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees

As much as I love WoW, and as much as I hate comparing D3 to WoW...the way it was originally was just too similar... (Not that it's a bad thing, just wanting something different...)
I really love the stained glass effects they added. Nothing's more Gothic-typical than stained glass. Plus, I've always loved stained glass. And, all of the figures, like the demon and angel, are well enough good looking in the aspect I like, and all of it is cast over with effects that aren't cheesy or flamboyant.

the stained glass is in the new and old though.. so i don't understand how that's a reason you prefer the new vs old.
you mean you like how they tweaked it?
or is there something i'm missing?
typical of most all my opinions on the subject, i approve of anything that brings d3 closer to d2, so i like the ui changes on a whole.
not crazy about the skill icons and no opinion yet on the tabs
edit: oops sorry paladin for belaboring a sore point about the glass :/

New, because it has a more Diablo feel, and the skill trees look better then what was seen at Blizzcon. I'm not a fan of the fury system look though, but functionality over esthetics any day.

The new Ui is awesome. but i liked how the old UI's equip inventory showed your character, unlike the new Ui's shadow background, but i guess they removed that because it was similar to WoW. and people are bitches.

I never noticed it in the old UI. Ever. So to me it's new, or it's more pronounced, in which case that makes me like it more. And, of course, I stated my other opinions on other aspects not related to the stain glass:
And, all of the figures, like the demon and angel, are well enough good looking in the aspect I like, and all of it is cast over with effects that aren't cheesy or flamboyant.
Which I still retain. To elaborate on this portion:
and all of it is cast over with effects that aren't cheesy or flamboyant.
I especially like the new UI of the Fury system, which semi-stemmed away from the standard orb view and tried a new approach to a consumable energy source in Diablo.
The D3 UI is alot more solid, with the stained glass (which is a better color now) and the crumbling rock down the bottom its like building. The D2 one reminds me of pages in a tome (although with very elaborate squigly artwork)
I prefer the new inventory look, the character in gray with equipment boxes over top - Thats way more Diablo
Anyway, the point of this thread was just to poll the members here, and it confirmed what I previously thought
Paper doll and inventory system felt WAY too much like WoW. That's an example of taking a WoW feature not even because it works better, but just because of the stigma of WoW's success.
I like the 3 tabs and the big icons. Feels much more Diablo. Little icons, and lots of them, felt very MMO'ish and very WoW'ish. As long as there is an easy way of hotkeying the 3 inventories swiftly I don't see a problem.
I like the new one better than the old one. It's more in line with the traditional Diablo look. I do, however, think it could have even more ornaments on it. Nothing too eye-catching though. I just think the straight horizontal and vertical edges are looking a little boring as they are now.
Edit: Also, the red hue added on the off-hand while wielding a two handed weapon is very Diablo 1. *thumb up*
Does it look better than the one we saw in the gameplay trailer?
