once the game is about a yr or 2 old, everything will be set.. the only time it will change is when there are ladder resets and the like. even then the items will change for the first month then be set.. its happend before and its still happend how dont u get htat
You are prematurely assuming something. And at that, it is not positive to your liking. This tells me you clearly are being biased. Diablo 3 will not be other games. This is a first to the gaming world. I do not think any of us here can proclaim things like this. For the time being, gold is gold, items are items, and players are players. Order to a game such as one in the Diablo Franchise has been hard to confirm; especially considering how many bugs the first two had. With the gold system, with supposed 'set' prices, what would only change is the way we focus on D3 gaming. With a system of money, your priorities will change, and for the better, I shall say. This could possibly flourish the friend and duel system that Diablo 3 will bring with it. Items will take up a new device, one of requirement. How can we be fair as to judge what is not even there? How do you not get that.

If that becomes true of gold, it becomes true of the barter system as well. The barter system is not immune to video game economy stagnation. Do values in barter change for some random reasons? No. They change for the same reasons gold prices change.
Basically what Equinox said. No matter what currency we use, if the economy becomes stagnant it'll effect runes/gold/any item.
Which is what updates and expansions are for. For new items to trade with. Also latter resets so the market isn't flooded with 1000 copies of every item.
it seems that you guys have never played diablo 2 at a hardcore pace. things were amazing when sojs were the currency because prices changed at an uncontrolable pace.
if gold the currency everyone will know what everything is worth and shit will have a set price. this will ruin the game

This, to me, does not seem like there is any validity in the statement.
An economy fluctuates on supply and demand. Many things affect the supply and demand. Taking WoW, for example, one can immediately see that there is competition in the Auction House. The value of the item, thus, is based on the balance between how much a person is willing to pay for an item in tandem with how high or low a producer, or seller in this example, is willing to sell the item for. A price is never set. A relative price, perhaps, but the floating value will never be determined by any single number.
Having a rough understanding of what an item is worth does not ruin a game - it stabilizes it. People that know the worth of an item will be more willing to trade, and thus more willing to contribute to the gaming economy. The more apprehensive, difficult, and ignorant the buying community is, the less trading there will be.
Perhaps this is too much of a crash course in basic economics for you, but the fact of the matter is that good games keep the players in the loop. The experience is meant to be engaging, understandable, and most of all, compelling in all other aspects. (whether it is the story, graphics, gameplay, etc.)
The economy is a vital part of a game's survival when trade is involved. (This, of course, is assuming that the vast majority of the gaming community is online) Whether it is a barter or monetary value used for trade, it's necessary to have balance, understanding, and relatively simple system.
What the OP seems to condone is his desire to be able to pull a fast one on people who are new to the community for a quick buck at the expense of his own honesty and integrity.
My deepest condolences to you and any person who trades with you in any game.

That seems to be every traders main purpose in Diablo 2 though. I'm not disagreeing with you, just realizing how hard it is to find a good relationship on D2.
I have met many traders that kicked so much ass they just had to be added to my /F list.:)
Some trades were just so magical because sometimes you never knew what the other person might have and what kind of crazy deal you could conjure up.
Gold has, and always has had a meaninful, and logical purpose in all Diablo games. I don't really think that how gold is handled in Diablo 3 will be all that different from how it has been used in the past. Aside from some minor tweaking & adjusting that is.
I honestly don't believe that d2 was "ruined" in anyway though, it's still a great game. Spam bots can easily be avoided, I will agree however, that item/char sites and all of the people who use them arn't necessarily good for the game, but they certainly did not ruin it.
What? I guess I was the only idiot that liked the D2 economy/drop system. Gold was boring, those of you that aren't n00bs remember a brief period in D2 when gold actually did have substantial value when barbarians were getting weapons with high damage from regular magic weapons from merchants in the higher acts of hell difficulty. It made for a boring game, you would be trying to quest/lvl etc. etc. and some idiot would find a weapon a merchant had that he had no where near enough gold to buy and stopped the game up offering every item he had to trade for gold, naturally I would kill Diablo (this was pre-expansion I believe) and end the game just to ruin his day, but still what's wrong with questing finding great items and trading them for what you need? Much better expierence in my opinion. Gold? Try WoW if that's your thing I want to play DIABLO.

I always loved the way it was set up, right back to when you had to toss an item on the ground in order to trade. It made for a realistic and ever changing experience that gave the game so much depth. They must never remove this magic. Only improve upon it.

Not a damn thing. It's the way it should be, and the way it will be.:)
Yeah I never quite understood why anyone would pay a buck for an item since all you had to do was download a character editor and make your own. I guess there were plenty of suckers out though otherwise those real life Greiz's wouldn't have peddling off they items.
i had enough arguing of my points, its getting to become a little silly and repetitive.

fg ruined diablo 2, and ingamegold will ruin d3
everyone has their own way of obtaining items and we each think our way is the best
im not going to change my mind and your not going to change yours, its over
Yeah but you almost make it sound like gold has no place in D3, what treasure chest would be complete without some gold? That is a bit of a conundrum and it would be just weird because everyone expects gold in a treasure chest. New Diablo players would be like where the hell is the gold?
If gold is not used as money at some level what would you do with it? Just ignore it? Keep a small pile handy for your sling to beam at monsters? That would be funny but doesn't make any sense.

Unlike Magistrate, I'll say that this is how it is. Gamers will have the opposition of cheats, and we move through the strife. If you serisously are this distraught over it, please, no one is forcing you to play.
why change something that is awsome, i could say the same thing to you.... the game dosent have gold as the currency and if you want it to change go play wow

Diablo 2 does and will always kick ass, just like it's predecessors.
I'll say what I want to say. Diablo II has many problems, and maybe you viewed those problems as benefits, but I would want to see them out of the next game.
Gold currency has nothing to do with WoW, it's a general standard for all sorts of RPG's.

Though I understand that everybody has a right to their own opinion, I must also impress the point that opinions can be wrong.
In this case, your opinion is wrong.
Whether it is your desire to remain so obtuse and close-minded or your tactless means of trading, you let your opinions fall in a place that are overshadowed by reason.
And let me correct your assumption that we all think "our way is the best." I do not assume that my way of getting items is the best by any means. I just know my way is better than yours. It is people like you who stagnate economies and contribute to a broken system. If you think "that way is best" then you're rather pathetic.
But by all means, don't change your mind. Remain ignorant - that's your choice! But don't expect anybody to back you up.

Proof of this?
What ruined D2 was item selling sites.
And we're discussing Diablo as a whole not just hardcore/pvp.
What makes the best game in the long run as a whole.
