Me and my friends tried Drahque's guide when Season 5 started. It was really good, we didn't have to think so much how to level, we just (roughly) follow the guide and had fun while doing it.
For Season 1-4, we kinda just did rifts and bounties randomly, we had no hurry to ding 70 then.
If you want to ding 70 fast, then I definitely recommend using Drahque's guide
I followed Drahque's guide as well. But I couldn't really comprehend how chained kill works and more importantly, how to chain. Soon or later, I'm in an empty space and without any ressource to move quickly to the next spot.
I don't see why I must stay close to mobs when leveling up either.
It took me 5 hours and I wasn't even lvl 70. The next morning, a friend who played all night just PL me the last level to get to lvl 70.
You can chain kills by not letting too much time in between kills. It starts counting from 15 or so. But this only happens individually. It is not based on the groups. More kills in one chain means a higher xp bonus. But it is not always easy to do indeed.
When you level up, you do damage, believe it or not. So when you are close to leveling up, make sure you stand close to a bunch of enemies and they will blow up.

Yeah, we did this. The guide has a lot of info, some that we never thought of. Really sneaky to stand near mobs when dinging,
Anyways for me personally, I usually get bored of the new season after a month or so. That's why I wont rush too much in the beginning

This right here. So many people rush / power level and then get bored after playing 1 month or so.
I always start with the campaign. And i spend a couple of days playing the campaign. AND THEN i start grinding rifts, bounties like a mad man
If you are playing solo, imo the best way to level up is to farm dense maps in adventure mode and skip rifts. If you find you need gear, go kill a boss bounty for their drop and the boss chest.
Through several tests on live, I can go 1-70 on WD in about 2 hrs and 35 min solo give or take 5/10 minutes. I am working on Barb, fastest I have gotten with them is around 3hrs and 45min solo. WD shines above all else in solo leveling due to the killstreak bonus we get from the action system implemented in 2.4 using haunt which jumps from mob to mob, allowing for consistent chains of 300-400 with relative ease if you practice a bit.
One thing I have been experimenting with is starting off straight away doing bounties. I can get all 5 act bounties done in about 1.5 hours and I hit between 30 and 35 each time. A little slower than if I was just chaining mobs, but I then have 3 of each mat to use for cube right away, and you can also get cain/born for leveling or RoRG to cube. I think it might be worth it if you solo honestly.
Through several tests on live, I can go 1-70 on WD in about 2 hrs and 35 min solo give or take 5/10 minutes.
That's insane. Could you share your 1-70 roadmap, as in your skill choice? I know they're all quite similar, but the devil's in the detail as we all know.

Try to go off the top of my head here (for some reason not being in game makes me forget stuff lol)
1- Grab follower items
2- Hire templar
3- Look for Boss Bounties (kill any boss bounty outside of Malth you can handle on hard, should be all of them)
4- Look for Cursed Bounties (Chest not Shrine)
By this point you should be about lvl 11-15
From here on out, you repeat this process:
1- Clear Fields of Misery
2- Clear Halls of Agony 3
3- Clear Halls of Agony 2
4- Clear that area to the right of ruins of secheran
5- Reload game
*6- Optional if low gear (kill boss bounties)
The goal here is to chain as many mobs together as possible for the action system.
For skills: Haunt-(Healing Rune, forget its name) Grasp of the Dead- (Slow rune, forget its name) Zombie Dogs- (Chilled) Garg- (Humangoid) Spirit Walk -(Jaunt until Severance unlocked) Soul Harvest -(Whatever rune you want until Movespeed rune is unlocked)
Passives:
Jungle Fortitude, Gruesome, Fetish Syco are the first 3 I use (Then swap Gruesome for Fierce Loyalty when unlocked).
When doing this, I will usually play on hard until around lvl 22 or if I am lucky with a legendary weapon drop, pretty rare. From that point on you can play master if you keep moving just tagging mobs with Haunt because the Life Per Second will keep you up as pets and Haunt tick kill enemies.
I had a little over an hour free last night, and I hit lvl 45 in 1hr and 35min by using the above process. No legendary weapons, think I got a goldwrap at like lvl 31. That pace would have me around 2hrs 46min more than likely.
I want to play Barb this season, but because I am starting late and I can level so fast with WD, I am going to start with WD until I got at least 600-800 paragon locked up, a good speed farm build, a good support build, and a solid Helltooth push build if I get bored pushing Barb.
From that point I intend to use all bloods to get a farm set up on Barb and just farm for LoN-Thorns.

You should add, that you will hit 70 without any crafting materials & gold Still crazy though! good job.
I end up with a solid amount of crafting materials through this process, but certainly am short on gold. That being said, you get gold so easy at lvl 70 that I did not see it as an issue, but maybe some will? Blues, whites, and yellows drop at a decent rate from all the white chest spawns through the process.
4- Clear that area to the right of ruins of secheran
What do you mean by this one? Eternal woods?
Impressive btw ! GJ
When you portal to ruins of secheran, I am talking about the location immediately to the right (if that is eternal woods than yes) sorry for not remembering the name of that zone.
But one thing is not said. If you start playing at the very beginning of the season you get to wait entering new game because servers are full and under lot of stress. My best time ever was 9h to level 1-70 barb playing solo and leaving game after clearing halls of agony 1-3 and doing zoltun kulle/maghda/leoric/azmodan/voracity when ever some of these are bounty. I know 9h is not impressive by any means, but I had long waits to enter game after leaving one, queue lasted up to 45 minutes on EU servers when s5 started. The worst was around 9PM, when I crafted lvl60 weapon with reduced lvl requirements ( I was lvl 46) and tried to rise difficulty up to master. I went into blind rage when I saw queue of 45 min.. So if you ask me, best way to lvl 1-70 on the very beginning of the season is to do it with a group and in a single game, no leaving to make new one, or you might have to wait and waste time.
If you play in a group, go do every single cursed chest that is present in a game, do boss bounties for rare gear, and from that point keep on rifting untill you get to lvl 70.
If you do solo run, and I do not recommend that at all, knowing how dreadful it is to lvl on your own, just search for quick cursed chest locations, run trough halls of agony 1-3, do bosses that are easy to find and are bounties, and rest of the time spend in rifts. If you find puzzle ring or bovine bardache, feel free to use them after lvl 50, since boost in gold and materials can be just what you need to craft that lvl 70 weapon and reduce it lvl requirement to breeze trough rifts until you hit 70.

I can speak for myself only, had a lot of queue problems both at start of s4 and s5. I don't believe it has to do with my connection, despite its poor upload speed, download is good enough that I can download several things at once and watch youtube while playing D3 when servers have normal traffic.

EU servers are notorious for terrible wait times & not being able to handle the player load at the start of the season. Doesn't seem to be an issue with the NA or Asian servers though.

That's kind of quite a different selection than what I see in most guides. I realize you're playing solo - whereas I'm leveling in a group, so obviously entirely different conditions. Yet, I'm curious if someone could sanity check the last-minute changes I made to my 1-70 build. It would derail this thread too much, so I made a new one here:
Whats thought on skipping cains? I dont have anyone to run it for me just a 4man group, should we stop @ 21 to go bounty wait turn in @ 23 or for go cains all together?I wonder how much time impact it will cause bounties @ those levels are pretty slow going

It takes me normaly like 5hours dunno if im slow or dumb but jeah
Some say they get it done alone in like 3hours, but how?
Just because there is a thread of a guy with his technic? k was asking for like more ways, didnt know everyone is using this one
