I feel like they really should release the super polished demo that was playable at blizzcon. i know people would be angry to think they spent money to play the demo and now its available free however if the release date really is that far off i think it would keep people satisfied for at least a few weeks. hopefully we can get another class before christmas/new years.
the demo seems small enough.
i hate to draw parallels to hellgate cuz that game was such a terrible flop (lol) but they even released a single ''station'' demo.
i played that demo for weeks getting a feel for the game play and skills/hotbar and was really happy to be able to get right into it when i purchased the actual game.
i probably woulda gone to blizzcon if i could afford to take the time off of school but being my freshman year at a university i didnt want to fall behind.
bottom line, the demo shouldnt be totally out of the question for a large scale release.
Well the hellgate full release felt like shit, too. I mean I don't know how the heck I got to level 20 or something when I could never play for more than 15 minutes at a time without getting a blue screen of death.
Anyway, I totally agree they should release the demo publicly...I mean....they will get much better fan feedback that way, which will help their development cycle, why else do you make something like this? And if its going to be 2+ more years before we get to play, it seems just plain EVIL to release a demo this early and then only let a select few people to see it. Why waste it?
See possibly one of the main reasons why they haven't released the BlizzCon demo because it wasn't even alpha, most of the stuff in there was subject to change stated by the developers. Wouldn't want to release something possibly inflammatory in the demo (i.e the skill tree) to the fan base if it was due to change anyway.
I wish they'd release the demo also but I don't think they will yet, things aren't set in stone and polished enough, people would pick apart things that aren't even going to stay that way and complain about them most likely.
Also there is the fact someone might tinker with some stuff and make there own mini version of the game with the current tile set and animations.
I'd love to play what the people at BlizzCon got to play. That would keep me interested probably long enough until Diablo III came out lol
Shit if Blizzard asked me to give them a hater sacrifice in exchange for a Demo, I would go and get that monkey DoppelGanger who gets his fix from flaming his favorite game series 24 hours a day and gladly perform it.
Now the demo might or might not keep me interested as long as AcidReign, but I'd still be satiated from performing a good deed alone.
On a realistic note...I doubt the current demo would be a good idea in the hands of people like the one previously mentioned... Although I believe they would privately play and giggle with glee while doing it, they would sure find many a reasons to come back and put a "super flame post of the month" based on pre alpha temporary system features. That's just unnavoidable.
Definately not THE reason but probably one of the reasons why Blizz is doing closed beta nowadays.. Tough luck for us AcidR....

Maybe the demo would have to many secrets, that Blizzard don't want out yet? Some people would rip it for all information, and publish it.
Lets says there something in the demo files, that they are not sure they are going to stick with, or just something the want to show later. Ordinary players like me would just enjoy the demo and have fun, and some would take the secrets and show em to all, not saying its a bad thing, more information!!! But doubt thats what Blizzard want.....
i can definitely understand what you're saying. when i used to troll the hellgate forums there was a guy who opened every single tileset somehow and took high res screenies of all the tilesets that were present in the game. The cow level thread i believe is where he posted them to disprove that there was indeed a cow level.
more on topic: The people who went to blizzcon didnt go there thinking everything in the demo was final. it was understood that a lot of the content was subject to change. even in the gameplay video with the barbarian/WD they said ''chests wont drop full sets but weve allowed this one to, to demonstrate the armor looks''
i think that all it would take was a fairly simple disclaimer that states its not anything close to a final product and was designed to give an enjoyable first look at some of the more developed concepts in early game play. ALL concepts are still subject to change and at this point nothing should be considered final.
its possible that someone with enough time would indeed design a mod for what ever reason however by the time it was released we might have another set of environments/bgs from a new act release or something. i dont think theres anything to fear as far as editing/modding when there are so few resources available.
Also, and please correct me if i am wrong as its quite likely, but the .mpq and other files involved in saving/writing information for diablo were/are unique to blizzard? im sure they are developing and writing in their own unique way which makes it very difficult to edit/manipulate.
I think it would be great for a demo i would be on it forever i have been a long diablo fan beaten all the games at least 10 times with each character and spec. another thing would be good does anybody kno when there will be a release date for the demo or has anybody hear of 1 yet
There are a lot of people drooling over this game... and I'm sure they are all hoping for this in the back of their minds, I know I am. Most of us, who weren't able to attend Blizzcon, are only able to watch the Gameplay Vids over and over again. So, for a game that will not be released for, at least, another 12-15 months its almost like torture to only be able to watch these same Vids over and over again, while we wait for more releases. It would be beyond amazing if Blizzard would release a demo, I know I'd pay 10-15$ for it... at least.
Oh, and I've been reading this forum for a long time, fist time posting though... Huzzah!

Oh how I wish for it though.
And believe me, if they didn't think it'd make them look bad, they'd release it right now for a small fee.
