This will prolly sound stupid but I think it would be pretty cool if you could actually create a mule as a character. It would look like a stupid mule and you could name it. You would not be able to play as a mule but all the characters on your account could summon the mule in game. The mule would be kinda like a stash just a huge inventory with multiple pages/satchels accessible to all of your characters. That way when you make a new character or transfer stuff from one char to another it would be easy and you wouldnt need a friend or have to leave the game. Also it will make trading a lot easier... I hate logging on to different characters trying to find where I placed an item to trade.
Dungeon Siege 1+2 have pack mules, and its very useful. but let it stay there in games like DS.
Its a nice idea but it wont work for diablo 3. sorry mate.
I don't know anything about DS or any other games with stupid mules in them lol. I think it would work just fine though... can you explain why it would not work?
Well, what if there was a donkey, or... omfg, a LLAMA! just stacked full with bags on its back. But it wouldnt follow you around, it would just replace the chest like in diablo 1/2... I didnt really understand a following chest as you proceeded acts in diablo 2, an animal would make more sense.
It would not follow you around lol... you could just like summon or dismiss it or it... or it acts just like your chest and is always there. I really dont care if its a stupid box or donkey just as long as there is a system like this. But ya I would prefer the smelly farm animal
The game is too fast paced and a mule seems to make the game "cuter" which is just not Diablo. An "account stash" would be enough to switch items between your own chars.
Sorry man, but a mule is just too cute for Diablo.
lol mules are not cure! wtf besides I dout your char really wants to lug a stupid chest around with him everywhere he goes. When he could just have a stupid mule do it for him. I don't want the mule to follow me around in game that is way overkill. Just have the mule stand in the spot where the chest is in chill. I am not gonna make big deal about this cuz this is the least of my worries about d3.

We're not talking Barbie and My Little Pony action adventure here. The mule could be scarred up if you'd like. It would be cool to have it waiting at a hitching post in town, then you could grab it and bring it to a shop to be able to organize, sell, etc faster. But the mule shouldn't be able to go out of town. But ya I don't see a problem with this or think its 'not diablo' in any way.

Interesting! I thought the idea was to actually have a mule running around with you.
But I really like this now as a "replacement" for the chest. It adds some sort of "fun" to the game!
It would be great if you could find different types of mules just for the looks. Imagine a cow carrying your stuff ^^
See I dont get this " Oh it wasn't in previous Diablos so it's not very "Diablo Like" mentality. Could you guys be a little more close minded while your at it....
I always thought the Chest was a retarded feature. The system was good and had a purpose which I was thankful for. But I do agree. Having a HUGE chest follow you around the continent while your fighting....kinda stupid. What brought me to this conclusion was Act 4 and 5. Act 1 you were sent out by caravan thanks to Warriv. It could of been very possible and quite normal to bring along your belongings and your HUGE chest. Act2, I'm certain Meshif's boat could transport you, a HUMONGOUS chest as well. Now I do remember stepping through that portal alone after busting a cap (Arrow) in Meph's floating ass. So who brought the gargantuan chest along to the Gates of Heaven. Deckard Cain? (He must of drank something more than Full Healing Pot for that.) I never thanked him for it.
But what really takes the cake is, who the f*ck set it up in Harrogath? Oh yes, must of been the Angels.
So in my opinion, and others as well. A mule (Pack Animal) (Horse) whatever, would be a much better choice than the magical chest of Deckard Cain. And I'm sure he would be thankful to not have to carry it thourgh D3 once again, I mean the guy is pushing 80+ years old, give him a break.
By the way, since when the f*ck did horse mules become cute? Yeah I guess it was too cute for the lord of the ring who had a bunch of them, or every single relevant Dungeon and Dragon story that ever inspired Diablo designers. What are you smoking? Horses are kick ass and can carry even the evilest of characters (Wring Wraiths). You've been playing too much WoW.

I'm guessing this is strictly a design question, because apparently the need for muling yourself won't exist anymore now that a shared stash between characters of the same account is included.
Mule, chest, whatever it looks like doesn't matter. Sure i thought it was strange that chest was there, but it was just so practical
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I dont think anyone would argue you or anyone else over that point!
It's just that realism is always a big factor in gaming for me(and many others) and static environments/decorations, etc just don't cut it in modern day gaming as they used to back in the days. A big brown chest was fine in D2 but if you gave me the choice of having that big brown chest again or having to go back to D1 and do without, I would choose the latter.
However I would prefer the horse or backpack over a *magical* chest any day. Unless of course Blizzard decided to give us houses/lodging (A la Oblivion) , which I strongly doubt they are. Wouldn't want that anyways. Anyways isn't it kind of usual for a hero to have a horse carry things for him during the medieval period? Why is that so far fetched...

I wouldn't say it's far fetched, just a bit of extra work. Putting a mule in means Blizzard actually has to do animations for it. And very soon people are going to be complaining that the mule isn't moving, or that NPC's don't interact with it. It's just much more simple to have a big fat chest sitting there.
Besides, how much sense does it make for a mule to be standing in the Pandemonium Fortress? Think about it

If you put it that way, it does sound kind of quizzical. There isn't much that would fit right in such a setting, heh.

Except perhaps a "magical" chest as you put it, though arguably not in it's current shape and form. Extra-dimensional storage has been done before, but I think that's a bit over the top for the Diablo setting.
