We can pick our gender... Awesome. I'm a man. I want to be male. Now I can me a Male Magic User, great.
D2- I'm a man. I want to be male. I want to be a paladin... I have to be black.
I hope this doesn't come off racist, I'm just saying that when I play RPG games, I do indeed role-play in some aspect. And it's really hard for me to role play as a black paladin or a female amazon. I think Blizzard should put in some option where you can pick your skin color as well as your gender.
i would just rather play as my own ethnicity, some might role-play otherwise, but I think we should be given the choice; and also it would create more visual diversity between players in game.

You do have choices. But it doesn't make a ton of sense to just take a face and be able to move the black/white bar up and down, does it?
And just what question are you asking? I'm not even sure what your point is. You've ruined my afternoon.
I know I don't get on here a whole lot, but this is stupid.
Dude. Get to the point..
Male amazons?
That's just sick and creepy... what did they go and get gender reassignment surgery?
How's that for role playing?
Also.. I am confused on Blizzad's original reason on black Paladins.
Did they not want to offend any blacks that played the game or something? Because I don't think many people would care anyways.
Hell, why can't they have a character that's a big question mark?

Watching 240 guys talk trash about cavaliers is like two retards having a slapfight over a sippy cup.
I think to a great extent, you have to actually accept the designated racial and ethnic traits of your character. The Witch Doctors are obviously black people. You shouldn't just be able to turn their skin white.
I agree with the gender part, but cultures are going to be hard on this one. In both D2 and this one, these characters have distinct backgrounds and backstories, and relate to a part of the world of sanctuary, which, like our own world, is full of different cultures which will be represented. Blizzard seems to have locked these in. If you happen to play a witchdoctor, you are going to be from some jungle tribe. If you are a Barbarian, you are going to be white. If you are a Wizard, you are going to be asiatic (I think).
I can sympathize with you on this, and honestly the Pally didn't have to be Black (infact that was the first time I'd ever seen a black pally), but in other cases I have to agree with Blizzard's judgement. For instance: a red-haired pale-skinned witchdoctor, complete with Irish accent. Can it get more wrong? Barbarians were universal, as there was someone from everywhere that had wildfolk. Wizard could also apply almost any culture, save that of native americans. So what it comes down to is, it would be nice to be able to customize appearance as far as culture goes, but it's not going to happen, and there are good reasons for it.
Oh, P.S. Costumizing voices would also be difficult as you'd have to hire the voice actors for it, and in the end it probably isn't worth it. look at it from their perspective.

Who said they would be women who had sex changes? Where the hell did you get conclusion from. There actually are male Amazons in Amazon society. They just have a more menial and domestic role than the women do.

How do you know the Paladin just didn't happen to be black because of where he was from? Do you really think that the choice to make the Paladin have darker skin was an affirmative action move? You ruined my evening.
lol it did come off as a little racist.
i dont really care. man woman black white whatever. its all pixles.
theyre not giving too much customization because
a. armor will cover most of it anyway
b. you cant get close enough to the character to really tell.
Whos cares pick that character and go on with the story. Who actually stood around and wanted to see the characters skin color and how they looked. I dindt even notice the paldin was black untill people online were goin "Yea my paladins black it kills you" lol

First of all, no, Barbarians don't just come from anywhere as someone said. Witchdoctors come from the Umbaru tribe. I doubt there were any white folk in that tribe.
The thing is, every character is actually a person with a backstory. You can't just toy around with its traits. The female barbarian and male barbarian are NOT the same character. They have completely different storylines and even quests. Since D2 paladin has become the king of Caldeum, I doubt there's any question if his skin could have been darker or brighter now that he is world-known.
I didn't mean to ruin your evening bro.
I was just confused because I never got into the Paladin and maybe I don't know where they come from, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't an African-inspired area located in Sanctuary.
What I'm trying to say is that I don't think the majority cares what color their characters are. People don't choose solely based upon that aspect.
Now if it was based upon where the class comes from, fine. That's different.
Now.. if the Witchdoctor was to be Irish that just wouldn't be geographically correct.
I mean, what the Hell?
lol

Way too sensitive to racial issues man. When one thinks of a paladin, they don't necessarily think HE MUST BE WHITE BLACK PEOPLE ARE SATAN. But the image of the paladin is overwhelmingly a white, european crusader.

lol who cares anyway. the paladin in diablo 2 is black. why did they make him black? dont know, dont care
Is it confirmed that for example the female barbarian will be different in things like storyline/backstory/quests/whatever from the male barbarian? That would be sweet.
It is confirmed that the backstory is different. The female Barbarian is driven by her belief that men are just simply not doing the job right, and decided to join the battle and set things straight on her own. Its also said that each character has a separate quest-line that makes it relate to the story and surroundings in a unique way so NPCs will treat you differently based on who you are.

There may have been some color in there, but most historians would say White all the way.
Edit: I am NOT racist. So, please nobody assume that.
I'm just looking at it from a historical point of view.
