I see some improvement, but I still don't like the green/purple glow.
The problem I see with the videos and pictures are that they are too clean, by that I mean they lack any items on the floor. For example second act of D2 was desert filled every square with vases, skeletons, corpses, status and here and there tombs. All I see from the videos and pics are static domain of roads upon roads which are empty to say the least (ignoring the catacombs, they are not in the middle of the land).
Yea I know it's still in development but I can't help but to comment about what is to sure change my mind about the atmosphere of the game.
I feel ppl feel differently about "horror" and whatever makes us scared, that's why we differ so much about our opinion of atmosphere, not because we are less of a fans of the Diablo games.
Actually, I'm about to get very geeky, but I'm a big fan of the colour commonly used for arcane magic, which is also used here, because it is very amusing if you know a bit about light and the human brain.
This colour, which is the one most frequently used, from Baldur's Gate to Hellgate: London, doesn't exist in the light spectrum. Whereas every other colour has its own position in the spectrum, we see this colour because we are presented with the otherwise brain-breaking situation of detecting wavelengths from both ends of the light spectrum at once. Generally speaking, our brain has two options for interpreting the input data:[alphalist=a]
Sum the input responses to produce a colour halfway between red and violet in the spectrum (which would in this case produce green – not a very representative colour of a red and violet mix)
Invent a new colour halfway between red and violet[/alphalist]This is the evidence that the brain takes option b – it has constructed a colour to bridge the gap between red and violet, because such a colour does not exist in the light spectrum -- since it isn't actually a wheel, but a finite line from low to high wavelengths.
What better colour for arcane magic than one that doesn't exist but is produced by our minds when presented with a visual paradox? I always grin.

‘I'M NOT LEAVING UNTIL WE ALL HAVE AIDS!’—The importance of calling them ‘mercenaries.’
there was a post about this on the diablo forums and im just here to state my opinion so don't hate..
blizzard never took the advice of people saying it was too childish or not gorey enough for diablo, their whole intention was to do that only they did not show it so early in the game, therefore did not show it in early act 1 screens but as you progress through tristram, as i saw in a screen there was stacked corpses on a fire and a wagon full of corpses ready to be burned. this guy the forums said "yay they finally took our advice!" no.. imo they did not and they said that they we're not going to change their mind on what they're going to do and they havent, their whole intention was to be true to diablo. I have no concerns or doubts about what blizzard is going, this game will be fantastic and it will definately be the end of my life as it is.. if you want to know what i think.. here, don't worry guys this game will more then live up to diablo, its going to be a fantastic game.
/100% agreed!!! Diablo will turn out to be simply amazing nuf said.

Yeah, watching the screenshots and saying that the game visuals/atmosphere suck is like watching a movie still image and saying that the plot sucks.
You have to play the game to get the feeling out of it.
When I first saw Wow screenshots I tought that "yh this looks ugly and so much like wc3 and very cartoony". But then I got a beta key and tought "well what the hell I test it out since D2 is getting so boring already" and it turned up to be amazing. The game felt so much different when you were actually playing it.
I haven't played D3 yet and already I think it looks amazing. I can only wonder how much I'll go crazy when I get to play it.

So that's why.
I agree there's no better color to represent arcane power.
Great explanation, thanks.
I'm a fan of White Wolf and have immersed myself in their sourcebooks but I've never found a local group to play with. So again, I'm more geek than gamer.

I'm very happy with what I've seen. I didn't have any problem with the bright colors and environments that we saw originally, and now that we have seen some of the dark stuff we will encounter later, I like it even more. There is such a huge contrast between the two environments that, for me at least, it will be far more effective at creating a dark, moody feel and immersing me in the game.

As long as the gameplay and story is solid, I couldn't care less about the graphics (which I do like). My only real concern is that Blizzard puts too much into this game. Keep it simple.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Hell is an Illusion......There is only Death.
I never had a problem with the artwork previously, and these new areas they are showcasing are really great. Fog, torch-lit tunnels, spider webs, dead trees. It's all looking great - and that's only a small portion of the game! Wait for the jungles and the deserts and the BURNING HELLS!

Oh, you really should play Mage.
Really good, but most people are not mature enough to play it.
@Thrasher: Actually the colour used to depict arcane is a purple that leans more towards blue and not more towards red. The one you used is almost pink.
D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
The ones closer to the screen are demon heads, while the ones far away are wolf demon heads.

Didn't notice, and for the matter i can't tell what they are now.
Is it... a demons head? A guy with a helmet on? or something?

My screen must be too dark.
Good to know though.
