So do we have more believers in the eerie/gothic and macabre-like settings will exist in Diablo 3 after having seen the gameplay demos? There was a lot of opposition and petitions being signed...
They had some really evil fog and trees looming about in a pretty dark area, kinda like a dark forest or cemetary shown.
So what I'm getting at is are some people who used to hate on the new Diablo 3 more satisfied? Seems gorey to me and definitely not all rainbows and such. You are believer in Blizzard again as we kept telling you to be?

I never really had a large problem with the colour issue, but seeing the Wizard gameplay trailer I think they are doing a great job, the atmosphere is awesome as is the amount of colour.

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man... and let history make its own judgment. -Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek
i have never had an issue with the art at all. some people are just narrow minded and remember only the den of evil. they forgot about how bright act 2 was and how green act 3 was. it was definatley an overreaction. they have definatley showed more darker parts of the game. some people saw the forest in the first gameplay vid and thought the whole game was like that or something
I really liked the original shots they had shown of the game and thought it was plenty dark....these new areas are darker tho and look great....cant wait to play this its definlty going in the right direction!!
they said it will be darker areas as well so this might just be further into the game..
if they showed this area to start with no one would say it wasnt dark enough haha
Hah yeah. As I posted many times when the art issue was hot that there will be darker areas. Some of the demo players commented that you get to feel a huge change in atmosphere when changing areas. Thats the best thing about having a big contrast in style.
I'm definitely pleased with the game, I can't wait. Now the fact about some things in Battle.net costing money? Not to sure about how to feel about that, we'll just have to see what they have in mind.
Looks evilish to me, I'm happy. I feel like watching the gameplay demo again. If only I would of won that randomizer drawing thing we had a few weeks ago.

I think that Jay Wilson gave some really good explanations to the graphics in the blizzcast episode 5....
I wish I had listened to it earlier...
"And, we've made a conscious effort to make sure that the tone gets worse- one of the things that we really want to tell a story of, basically, the coming apocalypse, and it works best if there's a contrast, you know, if things get worse in act two and act three, and act four, and visually, as well as just story-wise then it makes a big difference in kind of, how the tone feels, it feels like you get the nice contrast, or contrast between an idyllic world even though I wouldn't call any Diablo world that we've created, idyllic. But, for Diablo, it's probably idyllic, and then you know, at the end, just hell let loose."
it's better. but i don't feel the diablo-ness. i mean it sounds and looks like diablo but i don't feel the diablo atmosphere. maybe it's cuz watching it and not playing it. who knows. i'll still buy it though.
There are still those bright greens and blues which seem to be out of place, but over all it looks like the devs heard some of the things in the petition and have made the game look a bit more gory and gothic. They seem to have found a compromise, which seem alright.
However, I hope they add more depth, since right now it looks like you are playing in a 2d picture.
I also hope they change the sounds effects before release. It seems the squish/squash sounds when hiting stuff is still around. I want to hear my sword clash against the enemy's armor, not feel like I'm slashing a freaking watermelon.
Yeah after playing it at blizzcon I'm not worried cause they without saying so have taken many of the communities complaints to heart.
Light Radius, Darker Dungeons and More Gothic Styled Design with the Levels.
I'm still annoyed about the auto skill points cause it takes away our diversity with builds and the loot system will take some getting use to after playing the loot game for decades, its like wow but even that I was annoyed with cause I could just see my armor and nab it.
Overall the experience was good, lots of fuller loot which will be tweaked later but other then that the demo was a nice view on the direction they are heading.
I signed the petition but after getting my hands on it and after the subtle changes they've made to the overall environment to the game it feels much better then it did, also pictures don't do it justice like normal
But texture blur an low poly models are going to look really crappy in 2010.
2D with partial 3D animations and models wasn't the hippest thing in 2001 when Diablo II: LoD came out- that was the year that FFX came out if I remember correctly. Graphics aren't really an issue. There's consideration for it, but graphics are low on the totem poll. Their focus is fast and fun play, instant immersion, addiction, getting players together in various ways, and low, low lag with multiple players.
It looks significantly better... although there is some arbitrary lighting still. It reminds me of a combination of old school disney movies and D&D titles like baldurs gate: dark alliance.
I wonder if the game will have cutscenes like that... itd be nice.

I was one of the first to sign the petition and now Blizzard has successfully convinced me this game will be great at keeping the "Diablo atmosphere".
Good job Blizz!
